West Coast Africa- Scully narrates that she is investigating
"The Craft" in order to cure Mulder, that she feels this discovery was
meant for him to find. At night in her tent by the Craft, she briefly
sees an African Shaman appear then is attacked by a swarm of locusts.
DC- Skinner is checking on Mulder still in his padded cell.
The doctor says he doesn't sleep but has been quiet for the past 36 hours,
"there's activity in his temporal lobe we've just never seen before.
It won't allow his brain to rest or shut down, manifesting in episodes
of aggression, sometimes against himself". They can sedate him for
short periods in order to preform tests, but he will die soon. Skinner
visits Mulder in his cell. Mulder is first motionless then attacks
Skinner, choking him. The guards pull him off, and he begins to scream
desperately. Skinner later finds a small note written in blood in
his shirt pocket: "help me".
Dr Amina Ngebe arrives at the Craft site with more workers
to find the locusts dead in Scully's tent. She is a professor of
biology like her friend Merkmallen, the Craft is still secret but well
known among African professors now. Scully tells her about African
Shaman and the locusts, she warns Scully not to tell the workers:
"they are Animists, believing nature is vengeful", they will take it as
an omen caused by God. One of the men working on the Craft in the
water suddenly gets serious burns claiming the water burned him.
Skinner visits a sedated Mulder in the psych ward, offering
his help. Mulder can only move his hand, he writes "K-R-...".
Dr. Barnes arrives at the Craft, wanting to help read the
inscriptions. Scully accuses him of killing Merkmallen which he denies.
Barnes says he's spent his life looking for it, "the answer to what theologians
have pondered for millenia, the key to everything, to life itself.
I've already been threatened by men in Washington about what I know".
That night the sea turns blood red around the Craft, and Scully briefly
sights the African Shaman again standing on a rock out at sea.
Skinner visits Michael Kritschgau at his cheap apartment
to help Mulder. Kritschgau says he lost his job and government pension
until Mulder asked him to do him a favor and expose the military-UFO conspiracy.
Kritschgau reluctantly accompanies Skinner to visit Mulder. Kritschgau
sees that Mulder's brain activity spikes just before he is asked a question.
He says he's seen this condition before, the doctors are giving him the
wrong treatment. He saw it "in a study. There's somelike ESP
called 'remote viewing'... the CIA [did the study]... Extreme subjects
would go into arrest their minds working harder than their bodies could
sustain. They became, in effect, all brain". Skinner reluctantly
injects Mulder with what Kritschgau says is the only thing that can slow
his electrical impulses. Mulder stirs and says "they're coming".
Fowley shows up and runs a search for Mulder, who is quickly found back
in his bed with Skinner who says he found him down the hall and returned
him. Fowley is very suspicious of Skinner, he orders her out.
Mulder tells Skinner "she knows" he knows by reading her mind. Mulder
tells Skinner "I know you've been comprimised. I know Krychek is
threatening your life, blackmailing you. You don't think I can trust
you but it's not you that I need", he needs Kritschgau to prove what's
causing this is alien. Kritschgau says a brain abnormality allows
him to read minds, he doesn't believe in aliens.
Scully is assembling photographs of "the intricate symbols...
part of a complex communication" which cover the Craft's top. Barnes
has translated some of the symbols using an ancient Navajo alphabet.
The top describes human genetics, including the four basic nucleotides
which describe DNA (cytosine, guanine, adenine, thymine). They've
been trying to read the bottom but the workers were scared away by the
unexplained phenomenon. "What little we have found has been staggering,
passages from the Christian bible, from pagan religions, from Ancient Sumeria,
science and mysticism conjoined. But more than words they are somehow
imbued with power". Ngebe finds more, "a passage from the Koran,
Qeyaahah, 'the day of final judgement'. On a spacecraft? Teaching
of the ancient prophet Mohammed?". Scully has also found more on
the top, "24 panels, one for each human chromosome. A map of their
makeup, maybe a map of our entire genetic makeup, a complete human genome".
Ngebe calls it the Word of God, but Barnes (who is acting even more crazed
now) says there is no God merely what we call our creation by aliens.
Scully and Ngebe say he is sick, and Barnes orders them not to leave the
tent before him (he's wielding a machete).
Kritschgau runs a remote viewing test, Mulder must tap a
monitor when the UFO appears on it. He only gets 5% right, "at the
CIA a high degree of ability was 20%, 25% was extraordinary... our tests
showed that some people have psychic abilities... ESP, clairvoyance, remote
viewing, but it was never attributed to aliens". Mulder makes him
run the test much faster, and Mulder is able to get them all even anticipating
their appearance.
That night Barnes is shocked to find a bag of dead fish come
back to life. Scully uses the distraction to knock over the head
with a chair, she flees with Ngebe in a truck to call the police.
Scully sees African Shaman in the road, and makes Ngebe stop. When
she looks at Ngebe, African Shaman is there instead. He says "some
truths are not for you" and touches her forehead. Scully shivers
and finds Ngebe back in place concerned for her. Ngebe saw a man
in the road but nothing more. Scully decides to go home.
Skinner and Kritschgau are going to sneak Mulder out of the
hospital. Kritschgau is going to shoot him with drugs again, Skinner
accuses him of just trying to get revenge on the government. Kritschgau
says "I was destroyed to protect what Mulder knew all along. Now
he's the proof, he's the X-File". Just as Kritschgau injects Mulder,
Fowley and doctors burst in catching them. Skinner tries to explain
why they were injecting him, but Mulder begins convulsing in a seizure.
Fowley confesses to a motionless Mulder is his bed.
"I know what's happened to you, I know what you're suffering from.
I've been sitting back and watching. I know you know. I know
you know about me, that my loyalties aren't just to you, but to a man you've
grown to despise. You have your reasons, but, as you look inside
me now you know that I have mine". She confesses she has always loved
him, "I won't let you die, to prove what you are, to prove what's inside
you. There's no need to prove it. It's been known for so long.
Now we can be together". Mulder is aware of what she said.
Scully returns to DC and confronts Skinner about Mulder,
who says he is under guard now after he failed to help him with Kritschgau.
He says Mulder is dying. Scully says "he's not dying, he is more
alive than he has ever been. He's more alive than his body can withstand
and what's causing it may be extraterrestial in origan". Skinner
says "I know". Scully says they can't deny her as a doctor.
Barnes kills his driver with a machete then drags his body
to the same spot where the fish were ressurected. That night Barnes
finds the body gone, and follows footprints out to the Craft where the
ressurected driver with pure white eyes kills him.
Scully visits Mulder telling him to hold on she's "found
a key, the key, to every question that has ever been asked. It's
a puzzle, but the pieces are there for us to put together and I know that
they can save you if you can just hold on".
Ngebe returns with the police to the Craft site. They
find Barnes' body, and the Craft missing from the sea.
Plot Points:
While investigating the Craft in Africa, Scully encountered
an African Shaman who appeared and disapeered bringing plagues of locusts,
acid water, blood water, and ressurecting the dead near the Craft.
A dead man is ressurected by the Craft, but his eyes are all white.
In the end he tells Scully "some truths are not for you".
The Craft is covered with symbols, which were partly translated
using an ancient Navajo alphabet. The top described human genetics,
the bottom described religious texts. The top showed the 4 basic
nucleotides which describe DNA, and 24 panels represented the 24 human
chromosomes; a complete human genome a map of our entire genetic makeup.
The bottom showed passages from the Christian Bible, the Koran (describing
'the day of final judgement'), pagan religions, and Ancient Sumeria.
The phenomenona started when the workers started digging
to read the bottom of the Craft.
Mulder gets Skinner to recruit Michael Kritschgau for help,
who proves he has 100% remote viewing and even precognative abilities.
According to Kritschgau, CIA studies found the existance
of psychic abilities in people including remote viewing, which in extreme
cases would cause the subject to go into arrest, the brain working harder
than the body can handle. The best cases were 25%. Other documented
psychic abilities found by the CIA include ESP and clairvoyance but alien
origans were never attributed to them.
Using his telepathy, Mulder nows that Skinner is being blackmailed
by Krychek and tells him so.
Fowley confesses to Mulder that she knows the cause of his
illness and is associated with Cancer Man but she has her reasons.
She confesses that she has always loved him, he doesn't need to die to
prove his illness' alien origans, it's been known for so long.
Scully and Skinner both admit to each other that Mulder's
illness has alien origans.
The Craft has disappeared from its berth on the West African
shore.
Analysis:
Scully gets attacked by a swarm of locusts... the next day
they are all dead in her tent. How did they die? Did Scully
kill them all somehow, using pesticide or something? That must of
been a hell of a lot of pesticide...
Mulder has two of his fingers bangaged, and the doctor said
sometimes he would manifest aggression against himself. So maybe
he snapped two of his fingers or something. Interestingly, Mulder
got a pinky snapped in "The Pine Bluff Variant". Maybe he did it
hoping to be able to use the extreme pain to get control of his body again.
Religious imagery aside, what was the real cause of the acid
water which burned one of the workers? Notice that this is the only
phenonmenon not accompanied by an image of the African Shaman, so perhaps
it was merely a natural accident, perhaps the worker exposed something
on/in the Craft which released acid or radiation into the water where he
was. We have seen radiation in connection to UFOs before several
times, perhaps he exposed the engines or something like that.
Boy, it's very conveinent that Mulder knew that Kritschgau
knew about CIA studies into remote viewing! First of all, nothing
of the sort was ever mentioned in Kritschgau's appearances in the "Redux"
trilogy. Second of all, Kritschgau worked in the Department of Defense,
NOT the CIA. Third, it's amazing that even if Kritschgau saw this
matierial at some point, that he remembers which complicated medical name
is the right injection to cure him! Four, where did Kritschgau whip
out this 'remote testing' tester out of nowhere? If he bought it
or something, wouldn't this be suspicious?
Skinner seems to have conveinently forgotten that Krychek
has his life in his hands, because here he takes very overt actions to
save Mulder. Surely Krychek would frown upon this! (and he
does in the next episode!)
Barnes tells Scully that he was threatened by men in Washington
about what he knows about the Craft. This explains that confusing
Krychek-Barnes scene in "Biogenesis" when Krychek gives Barnes a tape of
Mulder, Scully, and Skinner talking about the case and says they are going
to be great friends. Apparantly, this tape included Mulder and/or
Scully saying that they think Barnes a) killed Merkmallen or b) is just
generally trying to disprove the Artifact. Krychek gave this tape
to Barnes in order to blackmail him with it, but apparantly Barnes refused
to give in so he came to Africa to find the truth. OR, he came
to Africa on Krychek's orders. Perhaps his craziness in this episode
is because he knows his life in on the line.
If Krychek is looking to blackmail Barnes, why not just nano-tech
him like he did with Skinner? Most likely, Krychek having access
to the nano-techs was a one time thing in order to get the SR-819 bill
dealt with, indicating that Krychek is not loyal to the Syndicate and is
working under his own agenda here. Of course, the big Krychek question
now is he affiliated with Cancer Man and the New Syndicate?
Kritschgau seems to be disremembering the events of the "Redux"
trilogy. He claims here that Mulder came to him asking to expose
the conspiracy, yet it was Kritschgau who came to Mulder and who gave him
all the information.
What is Kritschgau doing alive and living free?! In
"Redux" he was arrested by the DoD, in "Redux II" he was produced to testify
before the FBI Panel. If Kritschgau was such an exposure, why didn't
the Syndicate just kill him? Why be content with discrediting him?
Perhaps because of his high visibility now, but then again the DoD allowed
him to testify to the FBI (to clear Blevins).
For those not in the know, "remote viewing" also appeared
in the third season opening two parter of Millenium last year, and they
were being used by the military in experiments to 'remote view' into Soviet
bases during the Cold War.
Kritschgau says that extreme cases of remote viewing would
cause the body to shut down because the brain was working too fast.
Yet later he says the best these subjects ever got was 25% on the test.
Mulder gets 100%+ so obviously his psyiology has been radically altered
by his illness/exposure to the Black Cancer in "Tunguska".
When Mulder gets a telepathic hint that Skinner has betrayed
him in "Biogenesis" he sounded very angry, yet here he learns the truth
and is not angry. Perhaps he realizes that Skinner has no choice
with his life on the line.
Notice that Scully studies pictures of the Craft, not rubbings.
Obviously she learned rubbings are bad after Mulder got sick from one!
So where did Barnes get this ancient Navajo alphabet?
It seemed to be secret knowledge last episode and here Scully doesn't have
it. Barnes was never working with Albert, that was Sandoz.
So why does the top of Craft detail human genetics and the
bottom details human religion? Any signifigance? And of course
the big question is why would this Craft have this writing on it?
It seems the only possible purpose is for humanity to eventually discover...
assuming the Craft is Colonist perhaps they put it there so that humanity
would accept the alien colonization because of their origans? But
if that is true, why bother to create human religion? The only advantage
to the Colonists to create religion would be the pose as these religious
figures to the humans, yet this wouldn't seem important to them since they're
just going to consume humanity.
But in any case, this Craft is supposed to be a one stop
summation of humanity; science and religion.
I'm no religious expert, but several major religions were
missing from Scully's list. Then again they were prevented from reading
the entire bottom of the craft.
It seems that the phenomenon appear specifically to prevent
them from reading the bottom of the Craft. African Shaman says to
Scully "some truths are not for you". Why is the science aspect free
knowledge, but they are not allowed to see the religion part? Perhaps
because humanity is not supposed to realize aliens created their religion,
so maybe that African Shaman was really a Colonist in disguse or a Pilot
or something warning away the humans, and the moment they leave the beach,
the Craft is taken back by the Colonists. However for this to be
true it would mean that a) the Colonists wanted humans to get a peak of
the Craft before taking it, or b) the Colonists didn't know the Craft was
there until humans found it. The first one makes more sense.
Now that we've seen more of the Craft, the question becomes
where did those Arifact Fragments come from? Did they fall off the
Craft? Did someone discover the Craft and break off a few pieces
or something?
It's pretty hilarious that when Barnes says there is no God
aliens created us Scully and Ngebe immeadiately say you're crazy Barnes.
Sounds like they're just trying to futily deny that their religious beliefs
were created by aliens.
After African Shaman touches Scully's forehead she immeadiately
decides to go home. Sounds like she was programmed to want to leave
by the African Shaman, she was pretty determined to stay before that!
Ngebe saw someone in the road but has no knowledge of African
Shaman being in the car instead of her. Obviously African Shaman
contacted Scully telepathically, then implanted in her the desire to return
home. And apparantly no one ever saw African Shaman aside from Scully
(though Ngebe saw 'someone' in the road at the end), so what does this
mean? That he is only contacting Scully telepathically? Why
only Scully? Keep in mind that she is a latent psychic ("Beyond the
Sea", "Ascension").
So now Mulder is 'everything in the X-Files', the big truth
about humans and aliens. He is not the first! We've had Cassandra
Spender in "Two Fathers"/"One Son", we've had Gibson Praise in "The End"/"The
Beginning", etc.
So what are Fowley's reasons to be associated with Cancer
Man? Is it that he is trying to prevent Colonization or at least
preserve a few humans? But Fowley appearantly only learned this in
"Two Fathers" so why was she with him before then?
Fowley seems to talk like she has never been with Mulder.
Yet according to the Lone Gunmen in "One Son" she was Mulder's girlfriend,
and Mulder wears a wedding ring in flashback episodes like "Unusual Suspects"
and "Travellers" around the time he was with Fowley. At the very
least she never confessed her love to Mulder... it almost sounds like she
just admired him from afar and never consumated her feelings, but then
why did the Lone Gunmen tell Scully she was Mulder's boyfriend? Did
Mulder lie to them about it? Why?
Fowley says there is no need for Mulder to sacrifice himself
to prove the alien origans of his illness because its been known for so
long. Presumably she refers to the knowledge of alien existance by
the Syndicate since the '40s and not his illness specifically.
What happened to the driver that Barnes killed? He
did come back to life, but his eyes were all white and he silently killed
Barnes. a) he became a violent zombie, b) for some reason his
eyes are white and he just killed Barnes in revenge for killing him.
Perhaps the Craft can ressurect humans but not well and some things are
messed up like the eyes.
So where did the Craft go? Did the New Syndicate steal
it? Did it fly off by itself? Did the Colonists take it back?
AMOR FATI (part 3 of 3)
The Run Down:
Teena Mulder visits Mulder at the hospital, the doctor tells
her they can find no cause his brain is destroying itself. Mrs Mulder
is upset, and talks to Mulder saying "I know you can hear me". Seeing
no sign, Mrs Mulder leaves saying she loves him. Inside himself Mulder
is screaming for her trying to give her a sign.
Dreamscape: Mulder is visited by Cancer Man.
He thinks to Mulder saying he's come here to give Mulder a choice, and
injects Mulder in the temple. Mulder can now talk, his telepathy
has subsided. Cancer Man tells him to arise, which Mulder does, and
tells him "take my hand. I'm your father".
Kritschgau visits Scully at Mulder's office. Kritschgau
says she must do what Mulder wants since only she has access to him, its
Mulder's wish that the alien origan of his illness is proven, that's why
he asked for Kritschgau not Scully. He says "2 years ago your partner
was infected with a virus he claimed was alien. A virus reactivated
in him by exposure to a source of energy also alien. Agent Mulder
is living proof of what he tried so long to substantiate, the existance
of alien life". Scully says they need to get it out of him, to which
Kritschgau says "you destroy this and I'll destroy you".
Skinner tells Scully that Mulder has disappered from the
hospital; checked out by Mrs Mulder. He then says he is distancing
himself from the case because he's in "a comprimised position, the less
I know about Agent Mulder's whereabouts the better".
Dreamscape: Cancer Man drives Mulder to his new home
and his new life, after his doctors worked on Mulder. He says "at
some point I realized that if the Syndicate didn't kill you the FBI would.
If the FBI didn't kill you your own misguided heroism would... there's
no way for you to cheat death except by disappearing... we've made entire
cultures disapeer. Like me, you'll become a man without a name...
you'll learn to love life's simpler pleasures". He is entering "a
kind of witness protection program".
Scully finds Albert appear mysteriously in her apartment.
Albert says "I was hoping to see your partner. You must save him.
You must find him before something happens not only for his own sake, for
the sake of us all".
Scully checks the hospital security cameras. They were
spraypainted black but a gap shows Mrs Mulder talking to Cancer Man.
Dreamscape: Mulder enters his new home to find Deep
Throat who tells him to let go of his guilt over the deaths, "you're not
the hub of the universe , the cause of life and death... we're mere puppets
in a master plan". Mulder is overjoyed, Deep Throat shows pictures
of his wife and two daughters, they live just down the street. Later
he finds he is married to Diana Fowley, they have sex.
Scully gets an package sent to her anoymously by someone
in the FBI, a book entitled "Native American Beliefs and Practices" which
include writings identical to those on the Craft. One chapter reads
"The Anasazi- an entire Native American Indian culture vanishes without
a trace, History as myth and end of the world symbolism, Apocalpyse and
the Sixth Extinction". Scully calls Skinner to ask if he sent it,
he says not to involve him and hangs up. Bearded Krychek is in with
him. Scully breaks in on Skinner finding him collaspsed in pain as
Bearded Krychek flees with his laptop computer. He escapes her by
pulling the fire alarm.
Dreamscape: Fowley tells Mulder to let go of his "childish"
responsibilties and become a father, Cancer Man lives a block away.
They later visit him, he lives with Adult Samantha and her three daughters.
Scully breaks in on Kritschgau accusing him of leaking information.
He has the files on the Craft, which he sent to National Insititutes of
Health to be analyzed, it's "encrypted data that describes advanced human
genetics", it proves that Mulder's illness is alien. Scully deletes
his files and leaves.
In a Department of Defense stronghold, Mulder is held on
a large cross-shaped medical table with a crown of medical equipment on.
Fowley is there with Cancer Man who says "a father has high hopes for his
son but he never dreams his boy's going to change the world. I'm
so proud of this man, the depth of his capacity for suffering". Fowley
says "like father, like son". Cancer Man says "they think what he
has is killing him but, in actuality, he's never been more alive".
Fowley wonders if he dreams, Cancer Man says yes, "the dreams all men who
are owned by the world have, a simple life, full of small pleasures.
Extraordinary men are always tempted by the most ordinary things.
Dreams are all he has now".
Scully meets Fowley at the FBI, nothing the smell of cigarette
smoke despite she doesn't smoke, and asks her to think about Mulder and
try to help him, Fowley says "I'm always thinking".
Cancer Man is talking with a Syndicate Doctor, who says "it's
a chance none of us ever expected, let alone hoped for. After all
these years of trying to devealop a compatible alien-human hybrid and to
have one ready-made". Cancer Man says "all these years, all the questioning
why, why keep Mulder alive? When it was so simple to remove the threat
that he posed?". Doc says "there was no way you could have predicted
this". Cancer Man says "the fact remains, he's become our savior.
He's immune to the coming viral apocalypse. He's the hero here".
Doc says "he may not survive the procedure". Cancer Man says "then
he suffers a hero's fate".
Dreamscape: in quick sucession, Mulder marries Fowley,
she bears two boys then dies while he is in his fifties.
Cancer Man is being prepped for surgery. He tells Fowley
"don't think of the man, think of the sacrifice he's making for all of
us, for the world". Fowley says "it would have been nice to give
him a choice". Cancer Man says "you don't think Mulder would have
chosen this? To become the thing he sought for so long? To
feel what it's like? He is what he sought". Fowley says "we'll
never know". Cancer Man says "besides, his task is almost complete.
I'll carry the burden from here on in".
Albert visits Scully again saying "you're running out of
time. You don't look in the right place. You don't know where
he is? Have you looked for him here?". He points to her heart,
and makes her kneel in prayer with him saying "there are more worlds than
the one you can hold in your hand".
Cancer Man is placed on the cross-table opposite Mulder,
their heads together. Cancer Man says to Fowley "I hope you can see
the poetry in this Diana". Fowley says "you're removing genetic material
that may kill your son". Cancer Man says "we're forcing the next
step in evolution to save Man. We're doing God's work Diana.
Without this immunity, everyone would die. This knowledge is God's
blessing. I'll carry on for Mulder from here". Fowley is upset
as the surgery begins. Later Mulder's eyes open, he won't stay under
but he feels nothing. Mulder blankly stares at Fowley who must leave
as the doctors begin to saw open Mulder's skull.
Dreamscape: Mulder is in his eighties and bed-ridden
with a still young Cancer Man at his side who wants him to have peace and
let go, Samantha, Deep Throat, and Scully are dead. Mulder says "we're
the last, you and I". Cancer Man says "the end, and the beginning".
Cancer Man says "there's nothing to be done, nothing at all". Outside
their house, the city is in flames, buildings are half destroyed and fire
rains down from the sky. Several Triangular UFOs cruise around.
Krychek kills Kritschgau then burns all his evidense and
his Bearded Krychek wig, leaving with Kritschgau's laptop.
Scully awakens to find someone has slipped an envelope under
her door; inside is a DoD keycard.
In the surgery, Mulder's head is bleeding as the doctors
work on his brain. Scully is inside the DoD complex sneaking her
way around.
Dreamscape: Scully visits Mulder calling him a traitor
saying "you're not supposed to die... not in a comfortable bed with the
devil outside... he's made you trade your true mission for creature comforts".
Mulder says he was wrong there were no aliens, to which Scully asks "have
you looked outside Mulder?". She tells him he must get up and fight.
Scully finds Mulder in the operating room alone with a large
bandage on his head. She tells him he must get up, to which he eventually
responds weakly saying "you help me". He manages to move and she
helps him.
One Week Later: Scully visits Mulder who is home under
bed rest. He tells her Albert died last night after being in a coma
for two weeks, he couldn't have been there when he met Scully. Scully
says she doesn't want to believe anymore, who to listen to, who to trust.
She says Fowley was found murdered this morning, "I never trusted her,
but she helped save your life just as much as I did. She gave me
that book, it was her key that led me to you". Mulder tells her how
he spent a life going the other way with his sister, and the world ended
up unrecognizable except for her. Scully kisses him on the forehead.
Plot Points:
According to Kritschgau, Mulder was made ill by the rubbing
because of his infection with Black Cancer 2 years ago.
Mulder is taken from the hospital by Cancer Man and Mrs Mulder,
and taken to a DoD complex where Syndicate Doctors studied him.
At least one Syndicate Doctor survived the Faceless Rebels'
attack.
Skinner seperates himself from the case, and when Scully
tries to reinvolve him he is attacked by Krychek with the nanotech.
Scully briefly sees Bearded Krychek as he escapes.
Someone sends Scully a Native American book which translates
the Craft's symbols and mentions the disappearance of the Anasazi people
and mythical tales of the Sixth Extinction/apocalypse.
Scully finds that Kritschgau sent images of the Craft to
the National Insitute of Health who found it had encrypted data desribing
advanced human genetics. She deletes his files.
Cancer Man and Fowley reveal in dialogue that Mulder is indeed
Cancer Man's son.
Cancer Man and a Syndicate Doctor call Mulder a ready-made
compatible human-alien hybrid, and is immune to the coming viral apocalypse.
In open brain surgery, they remove certain genetic material from Mulder's
brain and put it into Cancer Man's brain. Cancer Man says they are
forcing the next step in the evolution of Man, he is taking over the burden
for Mulder now.
Krychek kills Kritschgau and destroys his evidense.
He also burns his Bearded Krychek disguise.
Fowley gives Scully her DoD card who uses it to sneak into
the DoD complex and free a weakened Mulder.
Mulder has lost his 'activation' powers after the genetic
material was removed from him.
Albert visited Scully to help her, but he was in a coma at
the time. Albert is now dead.
According to Scully, Fowley has been killed. She gave
Scully the Native American book and the card.
Analysis:
This is Teena Mulder's first appearance since "Demons" in
the late fourth season, that's well over two years!
Teena says to Mulder "I know you can hear me". Perhaps
Cancer Man has already told her about Mulder's condition and abilities.
This would also explain why she doesn't stay long, else Mulder would have
gotten around to reading about her romantic past with Cancer Man and the
truth about Bill Mulder.
This whole Dreamscape crap is clearly just something that
happens in Mulder's head and has nothing to do with anything except for
Mulder's own personal hopes and dreams and desires. As such no information
is shown here, just Mulder's alternate future.
In the Dreamscape, Cancer Man calls the Syndicate "the Syndicate".
This is the first time it's ever been called that, the only other time
it was outright named was by Well-Manicured Man in "The Blessing Way" who
called it "a kind of consortium". Of course, this only means that
in Mulder's mind he calls it the Syndicate.
Kritschgau acts very strangely this episode. First
he can get in the FBI Building despite being an unemployed louse.
Second, he suddenly knows about Mulder's infection by the Black Cancer
in "Tunguska". Third, he threatens to destroy Scully if she doesn't
try to prove Mulder's alien origans. Fourth, he mysteriously has
picutures of the Craft symbols. Fifth, he is killed by Krychek.
Sixth, in the previous episode Kritschgau has all this CIA remote-viewing
testing knowledge. Is he still in with the Syndicate or something?
That would explain how he is still an alive and free man after "Redux II",
either he was always part of the dupe on Mulder in the "Redux" trilogy
or after his arrest he went back to his Syndicate ways.
According to Kritschgau, Mulder's brain is activated because
he was a) exposed to Black Cancer then b) exposed to the Cosmic Galactic
Radication on the Craft. This must mean that all that talk about
Mulder being the decendant of Adam in "Biogenesis" is false, but then again
Mulder keeps being shown as a Christ figure here. Oy...
If this is true, then it means that ANYONE exposed to the
Black Cancer could be the 'messiah' immune to the viral apocalypse (which
presumably means infection by Black Oil). Obviously Cancer Man wasn't
aware of this, or he'd of grabbed a bunch of those Tunguska Gulag test
subjects in Russia or maybe had his buddy Krychek talk to his old allies
about an alliance.
An interesting question now arises: Scully wasn't activated
yet she touched the rubbing same as Mulder and she was infected with Black
Oil in The Movie. This must mean that only infected by Black Cancer
makes this work, not 'true' Black Oil. This makes a lot of sense;
Black Cancer is in effect the weakened virus used to make a vaccine/immunity.
In fact, the Black Cancer is used to make a Vaccine by the Russians
in "Tunguska"/"Terma". This explains why this immunity is so rare
because if Black Oil infectees got immune when exposed to this radiation,
then Colonization would end just after it began!
Kritschgau claims "Tunguska" happened 2 years ago, yet it
occured in the Fourth Season which would be THREE years ago!
Here's something stranger and much less unlikely... something
that DID happen two years ago was Mulder's forgotten encounter with a Pilot
and Faceless Rebel. It's vaguely plausible that for some reason he
was infected with Black Something then, in which case to become immune
you must be exposed to the theoretical Black Oil/Purity that lives in a
Pilot, perhaps because it is weakened/altered by inhabiting an alien body.
Who is Kritschgau to threaten Scully over Mulder? He
is an unemployed slob, who doesn't care about alien life! Again Kritschgau
acts very strangely in this episode, though its probably just poor writing.
Skinner suddenly refuses to involve himself, yet last episode
he was involving himself to a large degree. What most likely happened
is Krychek found out about Skinner's actions and paid him a visit telling
him to stop interfering.
Nice to see that Mrs Mulder meeting Cancer Man again and
even helping him kidnap her own son from the hospital! Of course,
he most likely told her that only he can save Mulder (which is what happened).
Scully later says that Fowley sent her the Native American
book, yet at that point in the story Fowley appears to still be loyal to
Cancer Man. It obviously wasn't Skinner, so who DID send it?
Cancer Man? Kritschgau? Probably Fowley I suppose...
This episode makes a record for onscreen references to previous
episode titles! In the opening sequence we get AMOR FATI as a tag,
then in the book we get "Anasazi" and "Sixth Extinction".
We again get a reference to the mysterious disapeearance
of the Anasazi people, who Albert in "Anasazi" said was done by aliens.
Here Cancer Man (in Dreamscape) mentions we've made entire cultures disapeer.
Obviously the Syndicate was not around when the Anasazi disappeared, and
the statement itself doesn't make sense in reality.
Scully seems shocked when she gets this book which translates
the Craft symbols. Yet in "Sixth Extinction" we see Barnes with a
translation alphabet, and in "Biogenesis" Scully is told "the writing is
Cree, phonetic Navajo, but no literal interpretation makes any sense".
So she always knew how to translate it, but apparantly she convienently
forgot.
While we're on the subject of Scully forgetting things, she
never went back to Mulder's Office to finish her search began in "Biogenesis".
That camera in the smoke detector is still there!
So what is this connection between the Navajo and the Colonists?
It seems like the Navajo are descendants of the Colonists or something,
they have the same language and there's the Anasazi disappearance, plus
Navajo fables seem to know about the coming apocalypse or Sixth Extinction.
So Bearded Krychek visited Skinner (again) to convince him
to stay off the case, and as an incentive he activated the nanotech briefly
in Skinner resulting in his medical attack. Interestingly, the original
press photos for this episode showed Skinner in a hospital in his full
"S.R. 819" nanotech attack conditition! Perhaps this was a scene
cut short for more of 'Mulder's Dreamscape'!
So where did Kritschgau get the photos of the Craft?
Scully asserts he hacked her computer, but how is this possible?!
Its more likely that a) Cancer Man DID steal the Craft, took pictures of
it, and sent it to Kritschgau who is a Syndicate stoodge again, b) Krychek
or someone else broke into Scully's computer and gave them to Kritschgau
making him a Syndicate stoodge again, or c) Dr Barnes sent them to him
probably making him a Syndicate stoodge. I think Kritschgau might
be a Syndicate stoodge again!
Scully deletes Kritschgau's files and seems content.
Yet he already sent them to the National Institute of Health! So
the information has gone public! Apparantly he only sent pics of
the top detailing human genetics, but this information is now public and
out in the open. It is presumably still in existance and being analyzed,
assuming the New Syndicate didn't infiltrate the NIH and erase the files.
In fact, if Kritschgau is a Syndicate stoodge then the NIH
is probably one as well so they would do the analyzing secretly.
But then again why would Kritschgau tell this to Scully? Trying to
win her trust?
First we learn there is no God, aliens created us.
Then we learn Mulder is Christ. What the hell. But seriously
folks what possible use it is to have that humongous cross-shaped operating
table?!
Okay it's out in the open for once and for all, Cancer Man
is Mulder's father. UNLESS (ugh) he lied to Fowley about this, maybe
using it to convince her to work with him. But then again here and
in "Two Fathers"/"One Son" Cancer Man seems to be very trusting of her.
Cancer Man's brief speech about "extraodinary men" being
tempted by a simple life harkens back strongly to "Musings of CSM" where
Cancer Man is shown to want to have a family life with Teena and Fox (also
in "Talitha Cumi") and where he is given a speech by a military general
about "extraordinary men" who bear the responsibility for the world on
their shoulders.
In "Two Fathers"/"One Son" we are given the strong impression
that except for Cancer Man, Fowley, and Krychek the entire Syndicate was
wiped out. In "Biogenesis" Cancer Man is seen assembling a New Syndicate
of young Elders. Yet here we suddenly get Cancer Man once again hanging
out in a DoD complex, and he even has one of his old Syndicate Doctors
with him! Obviously the Faceless Rebels weren't as efficient in their
destruction as previously thought.
Come to think of it, most of the Syndicate worked inside
the military and DoD and FBI, etc. Obviously the Faceless Rebels
didn't destroy a bunch of military bases and so on, so they must have only
destroyed Syndicate complexes (like the Black Oil research center in "The
Beginning"). If this is true, then the Syndicate wasn't destroyed
at all, more like its leadership and a few vital research centers.
Of course those research centers were EXTREMELY important. It may
be safe to say that while the Syndicate survives, it's capacity to work
for the Colonists has been destroyed (its Hybrid abduction/baby program).
But the Faceless Rebels also destroyed their centers were they were trying
to secretly make a Vaccine against the Black Oil, which would seem to be
against their interests of resisting the Colonists but perhaps they didn't
know and just took the Syndicate to be the enemy.
Cancer Man once again devolves into some facicious reasoning.
He was right to keep Mulder alive all this time because he devealoped the
immunity to the Black Oil.
Mulder "is immune to the coming viral apocalypse" according
to Cancer Man. What does this mean? If the Colonists tried
to infect Mulder with Black Cancer through a bee sting, he would not be
affected and would devealop a Gestated Hybrid.
This also means that Colonization is still coming.
This is surprizing, in "Two Fathers" we learn that it won't happen until
the Syndicate makes a True Hybrid (Cassandra Spender). We learn in
"Patient X"/"The Red and the Black" that Colonization is planned to occur
in 2013, presumably when the Syndicate is scheduled to make a True Hybrid.
Yet in "One Son" we saw Cassandra Spender either get torched by the Faceless
Rebels or abducted by them, so the Colonists never found out that a True
Hybrid existed. Furthermore, the Syndicate has been destroyed.
Are the Colonists aware of this? Is Cancer Man still collaborating
with them or he is working to resist them? In this episode it seems
he's trying to resist them, yet in "One Son" he is petitioning to let Colonization
happen rather than kill his ex-wife!
Here's an idea. Colonization doesn't NEED a True Hybrid
to happen, it is part of the deal with the Syndicate. They create
the distribution system (the bees) and the slave worker race (the Hybrids),
and the Colonists post-pone Colonization long enough for the Syndicate
to make itself immune. This suggests that either there will be so
many bees they will cover the planet, or the distribution comes not from
anything physical like but something like a radio wave that activates humanity
to gestate. If this is true, then it suggests that the Colonists
think the Syndicate is dead and so are going to just do Colonization themselves
very soon, let's say near the end of the season in a few months...?
So Cancer Man is going to have Mulder's immunity ("genetic
material") removed from Mulder's brain and placed in his. He will
carry the burden from now on he says. So what does this all mean?
Won't Cancer Man just become comatose like Mulder was? Perhaps because
he was never infected with Black Cancer (we guess!), he can take the immunity
without making his brain 'activate'. So Mulder is the host to the
Anti-Black Oil which makes him comatose through advanced brain activity,
but when this immunity is passed to non-infected people it merely makes
them immune to the Black Oil.
What exactly IS this genetic material? A bit of brain?
Some alien organ that devealoped? Perhaps when Mulder was 'activated'
the junk DNA in his blood that is inactive Black Oil ("The Beginning")
collated in his brain to form an alien organ giving him telepathy, remote
viewing, precognative abilitity, etc.
If this is true, what about Gibson Praise from "The End"/"The
Beginning"? His junk DNA was activated yet he (presumably) wasn't
infected with Black Cancer or Black Oil. So what happened to him,
a random mutation? He had telepathy, remote viewing, and precognative
ablities too but he wasn't made comatose by them! Perhaps when we
see Syndicate Doctors preforming exploratory open brain surgery on Gibson
in "The Beginning", they are looking for this alien organ which is found
in Mulder!
Perhaps after this procedure Cancer Man will gain telepathy,
remote viewing and precognative ablities!
Cancer Man does call it a burden, suggesting that it won't
be pleasurable for him. This suggests he will be comatose, but obviously
the show can't go on with a comatose Cancer Man. So either he will
immeadiately have it removed then put in someone else (if that's the only
way to transfer it then humanity is in trouble!) or he merely refers to
the 'burden' of telepathy, etc.
Cancer Man calls it the next step in the evolution of Man
which will create the immunity and save everyone. This suggests that
Cancer Man and Mulder will have evolved to a new species by their posession
of this genetic material. Evolved into a new species which is immune
to the Black Oil. It's safe to assume that this new species doesn't
have the telepathy, because keep in mind after the Mythology is over we
have the movies to do, so humanity can't become a telepathic race at the
end of the season or something.
If Cancer Man is suddenly so desperate to save humanity (despite
how in "One Son" he was perfectly ready to kill them all!), then why doesn't
he try contacting the Faceless Rebels for their assistance? Perhaps
he just fears they'll attack again and not listen. But he knows that
the Faceless Rebel who infiltrated the Syndicate in "Two Fathers" offered
an alliance with them, so...
During the operation Mulder's eyes remain awake, the doctors
say they can't keep him under but he doesn't feel any pain. In "The
Beginning", we see Gibson having a similar open brain surgery and his eyes
are open and moving as well. One of many connections between Gibson
and Mulder's condition.
Well we finally get our first glimpse of Colonization, but
of course its in Mulder's Dreamscape so is completely false. It is
a city in flames with fire raining down from the sky, and UFOs cruising
around. This is bull, Mulder learned in "One Son" that all the aliens
want to do is infect humanity with Black Oil through the bees so they gestate
Gestated Greys! Why would there be huge fires and fire raining down
from the sky?! It would kill all the baby aliens!
This episode has a lot of red herrings. We get Albert
telling Scully she can only save Mulder by praying, we get Fowley sacrificing?
herself to save Mulder, we get Scully breaking into the complex to save
Mulder, we get Mulder saving himself by his caring for Scully, etc, yet
this is all fake! The only thing that saved Mulder was Cancer Man
and the operation!
Why did Krychek burn his beard and wig? This suggests
he is going to stop using that disguise, but why? Does this mean
he will stop visiting Skinner (in his office at least)? Why?
Surely Skinner is still infected and surely Krychek will continue to use
him! Perhaps Krychek's main interest was in this case only, so he
will leave Skinner alone for a while. This makes sense realistically
since Krychek won't appear again until the Febuary two-parter.
Why did Krychek kill Kritschgau? It could means Krychek
IS working against Cancer Man and killed his stoodge for exposing info
on the Craft which Krychek has some personal interest in (it's been suggested
he is working with the Faceless Rebels). Or, Kritschgau really wasn't
a Syndicate stoodge and was killed by Syndicate-loyal Krychek for exposing
alien information. Or maybe Krychek just didn't want another hard-to-spell
K-named person around...
Did Krychek leave with his laptop, or Kritschgau's?
If it was Kritschgau's, then Krychek now has the Craft symbol pictures.
Yet he burned evidense folders there suggesting he has no interest in them,
yet HE put Mulder on the case in "Biogenesis" through Skinner...
Let's just hope that like in "Redux" Cancer Man saw Scully
trying to sneak in a DoD complex and just let her in to take Mulder home
rather than having to do it himself, because if a stranger can get in a
top top secret military complex with a single ID card then the Syndicate
is really in trouble!
So Albert was in a coma but his spirit visited Scully to
give her spiritual guidance on Mulder. This may have been possible
because of Scully's latent psychic abilities seen in "Beyond the Sea",
"Ascension", a few others.
Albert seemed to have a lot of knowledge about Mulder and
how he is the savior of mankind now, perhaps his spirit was reading the
minds of Mulder, Cancer Man, Fowley, etc.
So Scully isn't a skeptic anymore, nor is she a believer.
Right! The same thing happened in "The Ernlenmeyer Flask"!
Expect this new character trend to magically disappear, except for maybe
resurfacing in the next mythology episode!
Fowley was murdered?! Why? She was Cancer Man's
best friend, surely he wouldn't kill her just for giving Scully the friggin'
key! It's ridiculous! Then again, Cancer Man is a bit touchy
about betrayal as seen in "One Son" when he kills his own son for betraying
him, but Spender's actions were MUCH more severe than Fowley's!
It's interesting that the anti-X-Files team created in the
Fifth Season, Fowley and Spender, have both met their supposed ends by
betraying Cancer Man for Mulder!
Unfortunately if Scully says Fowley was found murdered this
morning, there must have been a body which must mean she really did die.
Frank Spotnitz says... in "Terma" the Russian Vaccine only
made the Black Cancer in Mulder go dormant, it was still in there to be
reactivated by the Craft symbols in "Biogenesis". Cancer Man removed
"alien material" from Mulder's brain.
The original ending: The Mulder/Scully scene is in
Mulder's Office, discussion about Albert and Fowley. Scully had the
Native American book dusted for prints, Fowely's. Fowley was murdered
in her car. Skinner is "back at work", suggesting that in the original
version he WAS hit with the nanotech virus again as suggested by FOX promo
photos. No tender embrace or romantic dialogue.
Another cut ending scene: Cancer Man is woken by the
Syndicate Doctor after his brain surgery. He asks "we were a success?".
The Doctor says he's alive, isn't he curious about "your son" who disapeered
from the OR, "hopes are high for the success of the procedure, but there'll
be no second chances without him". Cancer Man says someone has to
tell Diana, the Doctor says she has disapeered too and it was her ID that
breached security. [Sounds like Fowley went into hiding after helping
Scully... but if she did then why was she found dead in HER APARTMENT,
unless Cancer Man et al caught her, killed her, then dumped her body at
the apartment].
SEIN UN ZEIT(part 1 of 2)
The Run Down:
Little Amber Lynn Lapierre goes to bed. Her mother
Billie writes a ransom note in a trance ending "no one shoots at Santa
Claus", while the husband Bud has a vision of Amber dead. The door
to her room slams shut, and when he enters again Amber has disappeared.
Mulder convinces Skinner to let him in on the kidnapping
case. The parents lie about finding the ransom note in Amber's bedroom.
Mrs Mulder calls Mulder asking to meet him when he returns after the case.
FBI finds Billie wrote the note, Mulder finds another "Santa Claus" ransom
note from 1987; by Kathy Lee Tencate. Her son disappeared she saw
a vision of him dead. She was convicted, later plead guilty on insanity.
She says the Santa Claus means "when someone promises you something, a
gift, like Santa Claus, that no one would do anything for fear of not getting
the gift". Mulder asks her to help the Lapierres and tell truth.
Kathy Lee sees a vision again.
Mrs Mulder leaves a message on Mulder's machine saying "there
are so many emotions in me I wouldn't know where to start. So much
I've left unsaid for reasons I hope one day you'll understand". She
burns a picture of Fox and Samantha.
Mulder plays a tape of Kathy Lee to the Lapierres.
She says Amber is safe and protected like her son.
The Santa Claus killer has video surveillance of several
children including Amber at a Santa village.
Scully interrupts Skinner's berating of Mulder to tell him
Mrs Mulder committed suicide. She took pills and oven gas.
Kathy Lee tells Mulder she was trying to tell him that she saw them "the
walk-ins. Old souls looking for new homes. Your sister's among
them". She can see them sometimes, they are taken to protect them
from great harm. Mulder makes Scully autopsy Mrs Mulder; she was
dying of a untreatable and disfiguring disease. Mulder is in disbelief
and tries to explain it with aliens.
Billie has a vision of Amber; she tells Mulder, Scully, and
Skinner that she silently said 74. Mulder thinks Amber is dead if
she was in a vision, and asks to be taken off the case. Driving on
the road Scully spots the Santa village on Highway 74. In the video
room they find videotapes going back to the 1960s, including of Amber.
Skinner captures the Santa, who is Ed Truelove. Outside in a field
are many shallow child-size graves.
Plot Points:
Mrs Mulder committed suicide. She was dying of a uncurable
disfiguring disease, but wanted to tell Mulder some truths first.
A child disappears, apparantly taken by "walk-in" spirits
to protect her. A child serial killer was about to kill her.
The parents of those taken write ransom notes in a trance saying "No one
shoots at Santa Claus". Samantha is connected to them.
Analysis:
So Amber was taken by "walk-ins". These "walk-ins"
must have telekinetic abilties to slam the door shut like that. So
they took her because Ed Truelove the Santa Claus murder was about to kill
her. They took her to protect her. Yet next episode we learn
those taken by the "walk-ins" just die, then live in some kind of playground
afterlife. Riiiight....
So the "walk-ins" channel into the parents, who write a ransom
note. WHY?!! If they want to protect and help, why do they
give the parents the impression the children were kidnapped?! Isn't
it better to just disappear?
Now, the Lapierre ransom note shows Amber was taken to protect
her from Truelove/Santa Claus, this makes sense. Why did Kathy Lee's
note have Santa in it? Was Truelove going after her son too?
Would make sense. BUT if these "walk-ins" are so great why didn't
they prevent all the other deaths that Truelove caused as evidensed by
his little graveyard?
However, Kathy Lee talks about Santa meaning be quiet and
you'll get what you're promised. This sounds like the "walk-ins"
are promising the return of the child (which would be a lie since they're
DEAD!) and in return the parents have to keep their mouths shut about the
"walk-ins". Again this seems pretty mean to the parents, and needlessly
complicated. Why not just ignore the parents?
Kathy Lee's Santa intrepretation sounds more like the Syndicate
took her child and promised his return, just like Samantha was taken by
the Colonists and then Mulder was promised she would be returned ("Conduit",
"One Son").
So Mrs Mulder kills herself, in part because of this Amber
disappearance we are lead to believe. But she was going to spill
the truth to Mulder! Cancer Man killed Bill Mulder for trying to
do the same thing. So maybe it wasn't a suicide! Then again,
what secrets are there to keep now with the Syndicate dead.
Mrs Mulder has a uncurable disfiguring disease. Seems
to me like Cancer Man and the New Syndicate probably have a cure to it
given all their alien technology. Hopefully she asked Cancer Man
for help before (maybe) killing herself! He would help her of course,
plus she helped him kidnap Mulder from the hospital in "Amor Fati"!
It is asserted that Mrs Mulder wrote a ransom note for Samantha
from the "walk-ins". But we never hear anymore of this, so why exactly
did she take the Amber case so personally if she had no idea about the
"walk-ins" thing.
So in a vision Amber says 74. The year 1974 happens
just a few months after Samantha's alien abduction. Coincidense?
So the "walk-ins" told the FBI where to find Truelove.
Why didn't they do this decades before? Did they just find out Truelove's
identity/location or something?! Aren't they ghosts?!
So Truelove has this massive field of shallow child-size
graves... RIGHT NEXT to the Santa village! So for the past thirty-odd
years no one ever noticed this grave field?! With all those visitors?!
All those kids who like to go exploring?! Hah!
CLOSURE(part 2 of 2)
The Run Down:
The children's bodies are collected from the grave field.
Later the spirits of the children rise from the empty graves and play.
Truelove has killed 24 but not Samantha or Amber, though
he has surveillance of Amber. Mulder wishes Samantha were dead rather
than missing. A police psychic, Harold Piller, offers to help on
the case; he has seen "walk-ins" transporting children away from disasters
in starlight across the world. His son disapeeared and he started
seeing them. The parents always have visions of the death which the
"walk-ins" prevent. There is a connection between Amber and Samantha.
Scully and an FBI Agent watch a videotape of Mulder's June
16th 1989 hypnoregression with Dr Werber. The Agent thinks that once
Mulder speaks of aliens he is telling his deluded version of the truth.
Samantha's abduction date is given as November 27th 1973; there was initially
a huge investigation including the Treasury Department because of Bill
Mulder's "high level in the government".
Piller visits Mulder at night saying Mrs. Mulder is here
and wants to speak to him. She quickly disappears, but Mulder finds
that he unconciously wrote "April Base" on a note during the encounter.
Scully searches Mrs. Mulder's apartment. She finds
a burned document calling off the Samantha abduction investigation, signed
by C.G.B.S. (Cancer Man). She tells Mulder who is unsurprized.
Later in her apartment she finds Cancer Man waiting for her. He looks
sick and says "I had an operation. I want you to stop looking...
I signed that order because I knew then what I know now: no one's gonna
find her. Because I believe she's dead. No reason to believe
otherwise". Scully asks why not say something earlier, he says "There
was so much to protect before. It's all gone now". He let Mulder
think her alive "out of kindness. Allow him his ignorance.
It's what gives him hope". Cancer Man leaves.
Mulder and Piller go to the decomissioned April AFB, avoiding
security and sneaking to the residential section. Piller traces her
here but can't find the house, but Mulder finds one with cement handprints
signed Samantha and Jeffrey. Mulder later asserts to Scully after
her abduction Samantha lived with Cancer Man and Jeffrey Spender at a military
base. She says he said Samantha is dead, which Mulder refuses to
believe.
Scully finds Piller is accused of murdering his son and was
institutionalized for schizophrenia. Piller says he's innocent and
just wants to find his son, his visions have a purpose. Mulder, Scully,
and Piller sneak back in April AFB and hold a seance in the house.
Several spirits of adults from the past appear, and a boy leads Mulder
into another room, where he finds hidden Samantha's diary. He shares
it with Scully and that night while he sleeps Mrs. Mulder appears again
as a spirit and whispers in his ear.
Samantha's Diary, 1979: They did more tests today, but the
not horrible kind. I was awake and they made me lie still while they
shined light in my eyes. They asked me questions, but I always lie
now and tell them what they want to hear, just to make them stop.
I hate them and I hate the way they treat me... They know I hate them,
but they don't even care... (later) Sometimes I think my memories were
taken by the doctors but not all of them. I remember faces, I think
I had a brother, with brown hair, who used to tease me. I hope someday
he reads this and knows I wish I could see his face for real. (later)
No more, no more tests, no more questions. I'm getting out of here
and not turning back, tonight. Tonight I'm going to run far, far
away. I can't let them catch me. They'll kill me if they do.
Running for my life, for the rest of my life.
Scully finds a 1979 police report of picking up a runaway
girl matching Samantha's description who claimed to have been held hostage
and was hospitalized. She refused to give a name and had "small crescent
shaped scars on her knees, wrists, and chest" and evidensed signs of paranoia.
Scully and Piller meet the nurse then while Mulder watches from the car,
sensing the end is near. The nurse had a vision of Samantha dead
briefly then some men came to pick her up including who she assumed was
her father and refused to put out his cigarette. But she disappeared
out of a locked room. Mulder sees the boy spirit again and is lead
to a field where lots of children spirits are playing including Amber.
He sees Samantha and they embrace. Later Mulder tells Piller his
son was there, they were all dead but it's alright. Piller refuses
to believe and runs off. Mulder feels peaceful and free now.
Plot Points:
When Samantha disapeeared there was a huge investigation
including the Treasury Department because of Bill Mulder's importance.
Cancer Man later called off the search, because he claims he knew she was
dead.
Cancer Man meets Scully for the first time to tell her Samantha
is likely dead, he never told Mulder because of the secrets that used to
have to be kept and because it gave Mulder hope.
Cancer Man appears ill because of his operation.
The spirit of Mrs. Mulder leads Mulder to April AFB where
Cancer Man lived with young Jeffrey Spender and Samantha. A boy's
spirit leads Mulder to Samantha's hidden diary.
During her April AFB time Samantha was repeatedly tested
on and questioned by doctors. She lied to them and hated them.
She only had vague memories of Mulder. She eventually ran away.
Someone matching Samantha was taken to a hospital with crescent
marks on her knees, wrists, and chest. Some men soon appeared including
one who smoked and appeared to be her father. The nurse had a vision
of her death just before she disapeeared out of a locked room.
Mulder visits the "walk-in" world and see Amber and Samantha.
He realizes they are dead but in a better place, and is content.
Analysis:
Mulder wishes Samantha were dead rather than alive but missing?!
This is ridiculous! The quest for Samantha is what drives Mulder
and this series, how can he say he wants her dead?! What is the point
of Mulder and the series anymore if this is true?! There hasn't really
been a direction ever since "One Son" killed off the Syndicate, it's just
been aimless contradictory crap!
So "walk-ins" only intervene in natural disasters... and
a serial murderer. So in general whenever a kid is about to suffer
a grusome death. Amber was taken because she was about to be killed
by Truelove. So.. why was Samantha taken? She thought Cancer
Man et al were going to kill her, but why in the hell would they kill her?!
She's part of the Syndicate-Colonist deal, she is one of the group trying
to be made into a True Hybrid ("Two Fathers"/"One Son"), Cancer Man treats
her as a daughter, etc, etc, etc. This is just stupid.
So parents have the death visions when the "walk-ins" come.
So why did this nurse who just met Samantha have the vision?! Sounds
more like it is just the closest person nearby. And if she got the
vision, does this mean Mrs. Mulder didn't? If so, why does she feel
a connection to the Amber disapeearance that apparantly leads into her
suicide if she knows nothing about "walk-ins"?! Stupid!
An unsettling idea... In May 1989 Mulder was doped up with
a gas which made him see aliens, in "Unusual Suspects". He gets this
hyporegression on June 16th 1989, a month later. So theoretically
this FBI Agent could be right that Mulder unconsciously made up the alien
aspect. BUT we've seen a dozen times that aliens really did abduct
Samantha! In fact what was the point of this entire scene questioning
the alien involvement when it was outright confirmed in "Two Fathers"/"One
Son"?! Stupid!
So there was a huge investigation over Samantha because of
Bill Mulder. Did he ignore the investigation or encourage it, or
what? He knows the Colonists took Samantha so he probably ignored
it.
So Mrs. Mulder knew that Samantha lived with Cancer Man on
April Base. Did Bill Mulder? I find it very hard to believe
they would just sit by and let this happen, even though we've seen several
times how little Bill and Teena Mulder cared for their children.
Obviously Samantha must be kept in Syndicate custody, but they couldn't
have made a visit?! Even if Samantha is being raised to think Cancer
Man is her father, they could have been introduced as family friends or
something for gods sake. Or perhaps she only learned this after her
death and in the spirit world. Stupid!
So Cancer Man isn't taking that transplant of alien tissue
from Mulder's brain to his own too well. Apparantly Cancer Man didn't
get the crippling telepathic abilities, does this make the operation a
failure or what?
So Samantha grew up with Cancer Man and Jeffrey Spender on
an Air Force Base. This is contradictory on so many levels!
First of all, if Samantha was returned so quickly by the Colonists what
about Cassandra Spender? Wouldn't she be returned at the same time?
Jeffrey Spender never lived with Cancer Man or with any father for as long
as he can remember! In "The Red and the Black" we learned that as
late as age eleven he was living with Cassandra and was told his father
left Cassandra when he was very young. So unless little Jeffrey had
YEARS of his memory erased by Syndicate brain washing, this whole story
is a load of contradictory bull. Cancer Man never gave a crap about
Jeffrey until "The End" so what's he doing living with him here?!
Stupid, stupid, stupid!
So Samantha was able to write and hide a diary in Cancer
Man's hose on what would have been a very high security military base?!
And in all these years no one ever found the diary?! They didn't
ransack the room when Samantha disappeared, like Mulder's apartment has
been ransacked every few months by the Syndicate?! Right...
Of course the fact she could escape this high security base is even more
ridiculous. Stupid, stupid, stupid!
What kind of questions did the Syndicate doctors ask Samantha,
and what lies did she tell? Obviously these tests were towards making
her a True Hybrid (if you can believe anything anymore since the writers
have decided they don't need to make things match with past episodes anymore).
Did her lies do any real sabotage to the True Hybrid Project?
She mentions the doctors do tests but not the horrible kind.
Presumably this refers to the alien abduction tests, since Cassanda was
a repeat abductee and she was in the same program as Samantha, the True
Hybrid Project. But Cassandra was worked on in railroad cars, maybe
Samantha was exempt from this since she was already on a military base.
Sounds like Samantha's memories of her childhood were erased,
but she retained some distant memory of Mulder. Makes sense.
So here is what this episode wants us to believe: Samantha
is abducted by the Colonists, then lives with Cancer Man and Jeffrey at
April AFB for six years. Then she runs away and is hospitalized.
Cancer Man shows up to grab her but she is killed/taken by the "walk-ins".
Of course I can still pretend this hospital girl was someone other than
Samantha, but no it's not true.
Samantha has cresent marks on her knees, wrists, and chest.
Mulder takes these to be abduction/test scars, but these don't sound familiar
with anything else before on the series. Her knees?! Why would
there be test scars on her knees?!
So Samantha died in 1979. This is the biggest contradictory
piece of crap in the history of the series. Let's take a moment to
mark all the moments we've learned Samantha is alive in present day.
"Endgame": The Pilot smacks around Mulder, then finally take sympathy on
him when he keeps asking about Samantha. He tells him she is alive.
"Colony"/"Endgame"/"Redux II": we see Adult Samantha Hybrids, different
from the Child Samantah Hybrids in "Herrenvolk". If Samantha died
at age 14, how do they know what she looks like as an adult?! The
child hybrids don't grow! And the biggest evidense of all:
In "Two Fathers" Cassandra Spender, who just became a True Hybrid and knows
all, tells Mulder Samantha is "out there, with them, the aliens".
Also in "One Son" Cancer Man begs Mulder to come to El Rico AFB to survive
Colonization, where he will be reunited with Samantha. Sure he could
he could have been lying, but why would he at this point when he told the
truth about everything else? This is the stupidest thing the writers
could have possibly done with the Samantha plotline, it really is.
It's horrible on so many levels!
So now we've got this "walk-in" spirit crap. Doesn't
this take ALL of the uncertainty out of this series? Now we know
there are souls and when people die they live an afterlife. Wasn't
the purpose of this series to hint but never PROVE the TRUTH?! Stupid!
EN AMI
The Run Down:
Virginia: a boy is dying of cancer but his parents refuse
to treat him for religious purposes. That night a bright light appears
outside causing high winds, and four humans approach the boy from the light.
Scully finds a newspaper at her door about the 'miracle'
from 'angels'. Mulder got an anoymous email from the Defense Advanced
Research Projects Agency (DARPA). Scully talks to the boy; the angels
pinched his neck and he has a fresh abduction neck scar. Scully finds
Cancer Man in her car. He claims to have cured the boy and Scully
with "the chip that's been put in the boy's neck... the same technology
in your body... has witnessed this wondrous miracle first hand".
He claims to have sent her the paper and Mulder the email. "You see,
I'm dying myself. A dying man who wants to make right, to share his
secrets, to beqeath this cure to millions of others just like that boy.
To you... I've tired of Mulder's mule-headedness, his foolish ideas of
overthrowing the system". If Mulder hears of his offer it is rescinded.
He gives her a business card.
Scully traces the line to an anyomous office building with
high security where she is admitted. She is watched by Black Haired
Man (THE MOVIE) as she enters "C.G.B. Spender"'s office. Cancer Man
says "in the end a man finally looks at the sum of his life to see what
he'll leave behind. Most of what I worked to build is in ruins and
now that the darkness descends, I find I have no real legacy". He's
dying of "cereberal inflammation, a consequence of brain surgery I had
in the fall. The doctors give me just a few months. How many
people in this world are dying of cancer? And here we are wasting
time with the past". She will have to take a trip with him.
"I have access... I have these miraculous chips but the genetic research
that makes them work is closely guarded. There are men in this building
who would kill me if they knew what I'd offered you. They'd kill
you too in the blink of an eye... I've destroyed a lot of things in my
life including the people most precious to me. All I want is a chance
to do something in service to man before I go".
Scully goes on a car trip with Cancer Man with a mike in
her bra. Cancer Man says he holds affection for her because he held
her life in his hands when she was dying of cancer. He asserts she
is "drawn to powerful men but you fear their power". "I've been a
destroyer all my life. Before I die, I'd like to prove that I'm capable
of something else". They are followed by Black Haired Man.
Scully and Cancer Man visit Marjorie Butters, 116 years old but looks 60,
he is her angel. She has an abduction neck scar. Scully secretly
mails a letter with the mike tapes to Mulder but Blair Haired Man steals
it from the post box.
Mulder finds Scully left with Cancer Man and recruits Skinner's
help. Scully calls briefly to say she's fine. The Lone Gunmen
help and get in trouble with hacking a DoD node, they found deleted email
messages to Scully's computer from "Cobra". Mulder and the Lone Gunmen
meet Skinner: "Cobra" a federal fugitive has been emailing Scully for six
months "from the Department of Defense where he works on a shadow project
for Advanced Research". Someone hacked Scully's computer and sent
"Cobra" messages in her stead, and set up a meeting.
Scully and Cancer Man go to a fancy restaurant to meet their
contact. Cancer Man says "he is to human genetic science what Oppenheimer
and Fermi were to the advent of nuclear warfare. This man, call him
Cobra, he needs assurances that the science he's going to hand over won't
fall into the wrong hands. I've told him of you. He's expecting
to meet you here... What we are being given, it's not the cure for cancer.
It's the holiest of grails. It's the cure for all human disease.
It's from that final frontier. It's largest extraterrestial.
That which makes miracles can also make great evil. There are those
who would use this power for their own purposes: to choose who will live
and who will die. Theoretically, I can be cured". Cancer Man
later meets Black Haired Man to tell him Cobra didn't show they'll continue.
Scully gets a note for a meet.
Scully drives out to the lake where Cobra meets her and gives
her the disk. When he realizes she doesn't know him Black Haired
Man shoots him from far off. Black Haired Man is about to shoot Scully
when Cancer Man kills him. She gives the disk to Cancer Man, and
returns a disk to her.
Mulder, Scully, the Lone Gunmen find the disk empty.
The office building is empty. Mulder asserts he did it to save himself
and used her, but Scully thinks she saw sincerity in his eyes.
Cancer Man tosses the disk in the lake, very pensive.
Plot Points:
Nothing happened! It's all a ruse!
The neck Implant seems to be able to cure ANY cancer.
Cancer Man claims it can cure ALL human disease but he's probably lying.
Cancer Man claims to be dying from the "Amor Fati" brain
surgery and only has a few months left.
Analysis:
Ah, the first real mythology episode since "One Son"!
Nice to see that SOME myth elements were not rewritten a la Samantha.
Scully still had cancer, Cancer Man claims to have saved her, Scully still
has the Implant in her neck, and so on. Great continuity!
That was a Syndicate UFO that appeared to the boy as a ball
of light. It landed, causing the high winds, and four Syndicate scientists
climbed out. They stuck an Implant in the boy's neck (apparantly
not any kind of surgical procedure just a simple injection) which cured
him of cancer. Since the neck scar looked 'fresh' this means he wasn't
a previous alien abductee, just some random cancer boy. This means
that the Implant can indeed cure ANY cancer (or at least lymphatic cancer,
which is different from abduction cancer).
DoD Advanced Research appeared in "Gethsemane" and "Redux
I" where Kritschgau worked. I could've sworn it appeared another
time but I can't remember, sorry. But presumably DARPA (Defense Advanced
Research Projects Agency) is essentially the same thing, in any case a
Syndicate stronghold.
Sure Cancer Man could have lying about dying in a few months.
BUT... Scully said he looked sick in "Closure". And since the series
is probably ending in... A FEW MONTHS I'm sure at the end we'll get a really
lame death of Cancer Man by his sickness. Yawn.
Cancer Man claims the Implants are worthless with the genetic
science... to activate them presumably?
So apparantly, Implants can also keep a woman from aging
from 60 to 116, unless Butters' birth records were faked, which they could
have been. What would really be the purpose of keeping them from
aging, and why haven't we seen it before in say Cassandra Spender?
This was more likely a bluff.
So: a DARPA employee decides to defect. He contacts
Scully over email to give her some information. But the Syndicate
is aware of this since he's doing it on his DARPA computer so they hack
Scully's computer and send him emails. Cobra thinks he's talking
to Scully and makes a meet. So Cancer Man has to recruit Scully to
meet this guy, get the information and draw him out of hiding so they can
kill him. Hence he makes up a tale about curing cancer. But
his lies carry a grain of truth. He IS dying and would like to do
something good before he dies, but his obligations are too important so
he destroys the information. He even gives up his only chance to
live for this.
Mulder recieved only one email about the cancer cure.
Why didn't Cobra go to Mulder in the first place, as opposed to Scully?
It doesn't make sense, unless he had the hots for her or something, which
he hinted to when they met. Perhaps he knew she was abducted and
had an Implant so she would be sure to help him? This assumes the
info was cancer-realted of course.
Notice that when Cancer Man says the cancer cure is extraterrestial
she doesn't try to correct him. Is she a believer...?
So Black Haired Man was working for Cancer Man but then he
tried to kill Scully, obviously against his orders, forcing him to kill
Black Haired Man. This suggests that Cancer Man doesn't have complete
control of the Syndicate. But he is the only surviving senior member
of the Old Syndicate, so who is powerful enough to challange him if he
created them?! OR, Cancer Man ordered him to kill Scully to prevent
his rebellion and then killed him. He always intended to protect
Scully.
C.G.B. Spender isn't necessarily Cancer Man's real name.
It was on his office door, but that whole office was a fabrication for
Scully.
Of course the biggest question is what was ACTUALLY on the
disk. It could have been anything the Syndicate worked on.
I doubt the Syndicate possesses some miracle cure to ALL human disease,
but it's possible. It was more likely something that had nothing
to do with cancer some technical thingee.
Will dropping the disk in the lake really destroy it?
Surely he ran a magnet over it first or something? Or perhaps he
secretly hopes someone will find it. If Mulder and Scully had half
a brain they would go to the lake again and sweep it or something, but
throughout the series they always forget to return to a place they've discovered,
assuming it will all be gone.
REQUIEM
The Run Down:
Bellefleur Oregon ("Pilot"): Det. Miles to a reported airplane
crash causing a fire. His car goes dead as he approaches the site,
and he finds a deputy with his eyes burned, and an acidic green puddle
which burns through his shoe. He is confronted by The Pilot, disguised
as the deputy.
DC: FBI Agent Short is auditing Mulder's expenses, which
are ridiculously overboard. He asks what the point of his investigations
are anymore, with the Syndicate and Samantha all now dead. Scully
admits to Short that "I've seen things that I cannot deny". Short
concludes that they need to be reducing costs by "reducing your vision"
to just aliens, and that most of his work is mere information gathering
that can be done from the Internet. Apparantly Mulder punches out
Short later.
Tunisia: a healthy-looking Marita Covarrubius frees Krychek
from a Penal Colony. Krychek says the last time he saw her, he left
her for dead. She says "your release has been arranged" against her
wishes by Cancer Man, who is dying.
Oregon: The Pilot as Det. Miles warns two boys away from
the site. A military jet fighter collided with a UFO in mid-air,
and the jet's wreakage was recovered 3 miles away. Billy Miles calls
Mulder and Scully warning that someone is acting strangly here; his father.
The two boys come a clearing in the forest. One boy enters a field
that holds him above the ground while his body vibrates violently.
The other boy finds his flashlight beam is distorted by the field when
there is a flash of light, and radiation explodes. He flees.
DC: Krychek and Marita visit Cancer Man at his Watergate
hotel room, where he is attended by Nurse Greta. He's had a tracheotomy
and continues to smoke through the hole. Cancer Man had Krychek thrown
in the prison "for trying to sell something was mine", but now wants to
work together on "a singular oppurtunity"; the UFO crash in Oregon.
"It's Roswell and Corona all over again, fifty years later. It's
our chance to rebuild the Project".
Oregon: Billy Miles meets Mulder and Scully. Three
years ago he joined the police force, and has been divorced. Det.
Miles is in charge of the search for the second craft but is flubbing it.
Mulder, Scully, and the two Miles investigate the site, which is where
Mulder found an anomalous electrical disturbance in "Pilot". Scully
finds shell casings from the deputy's gun. The Pilot is keeping the
real Det. Miles in his trunk, unconcious with burned eyes.
Mulder and Scully meet Teresa, abductee from "Pilot", who
was married to the deputy and had a child. The deputy was also an
abductee, though Teresa says "his experiences were a lot more terrifying
than mine. He was taken many times and tested". The Pilot soon
after abducts her as the deputy. She stabs him first, infecting herself
right next to the baby; however the baby is not affected.
Scully suffers from dizziness and chills one night at the
hotel. Mulder cuddles with her on his bed quite comfortably saying
she should quit because the personal costs to her have been to high.
When they find the remnants of the alien biotoxin, she feints afterwards.
Krychek is following Mulder and Scully. Cancer Man
says the UFO is "hidden in plain sight", that the deputy will lead to it.
Marita asks why he is using Krychek. He says he's sure Krychek will
find it, "but if I told him how, he'd be tempted to sell the information".
The UFO won't be there forever, "it's rebuilding itself". He says
to have the UFO is "to possess the answers to all things. Every possible
imaginable question. There's no God, Marita, what we call God is
only alien, an intelligence much greater than us.". Marita says "they're
coming here, aren't they?". Cancer Man says "they're only coming
back".
The boy leads Mulder and Scully to the UFO field. Scully
steps into it and is violently vibrated, then returned. She asks
"why is this happening to me?". Mulder realizes the abuctees are
being taken, they're not coming back, and Billy is next. The Pilot
takes Billy.
DC: Two days later Skinner visits Mulder alongside Krychek
and Marita. Skinner must restrain Mulder from attacking Krychek.
They explain Cancer Man is dying and wants to recreate the Project with
the UFO, but they want to stop him. They explain The Pilot is taking
the abductees and the UFO is "cloaked in an energy shield".
Later Mulder, Scully, Skinner, Krychek, Marita, and The Lone
Gunmen have a meeting. All the satellite imagery can not detect the
UFO except as an image glitch. Mulder refuses to let Scully return
to Oregon since she is an abductee. Scully and the Lone Gunmen examine
medical records of the abductees. They experienced anomalous brain
activity, "electro-encephaltitic trauma" identical to what Mulder experienced
"earlier this year". Scully asserts "there was something out there
in that field, it knocked me back because it didn't want me" but it does
want Mulder. Scully feints again.
Oregon: Mulder (wearing Scully's cross) and Skinner return
to the field site and set up a number of lazers aimed against the field.
They disappear at the field border. Mulder sticks his hand, which
vibrates violently- he disappears from Skinner's sight. Mulder enters
a white spotlight, shining from a large UFO above. All the aductees
are there. The Pilot joins them, facing off with Mulder. The
light brightens. Skinner sees a white light, then a large UFO flies
off.
DC: Krychek and Marita come for Cancer Man. Cancer
Man says "as you do to Mulder and to me, you do to all of mankind, Alex".
Krychek pushes Cancer Man in his wheelchair down a long flight of stairs
and they leave. Cancer Man appears dead.
Skinner visits Scully at the hospital. Mulder is gone,
and Skinner will not lie about what he saw. Scully asks him to keep
a secret from everyone, one that perplexes even her; she's pregnant.
Plot Points:
The FBI audits Mulder and demands his work be more cost-effective
and concentrate only on alien cases.
The Pilot comes to Bellefleur Oregon to take all the past
abductees. He also takes Mulder.
This UFO, when injured from a midair collision with a jet,
creates a stealth field which makes it invisable. Upon breaking the
field, the person is violently shaken.
Scully begins to have feinting spells. She enters the
stealth field but is rejected, then later finds she is pregnant.
Krychek has been in a Tunisia prison for attempting to steal
from Cancer Man. Marita frees him on Cancer Man's orders.
Cancer Man is dying from his sickness. Krychek pushes
him down a flight of stars for good measure, seeming to kill him.
Skinner, Krychek, Marita, and the Lone Gunmen all meet.
Skinner personally witnessed Mulder being taken by a UFO,
and is going to testify that to the FBI.
Analysis:
Finally! The first mythology episode since "One Son"!
So here's what really happened prior to the episode: The
Pilot flies to Earth in his UFO. While landing in Oregon he collides
with a military jet fighter (presumably sent to intercept him a la "Talitha
Cumi"). His UFO is injured and cannot travel, so it erects a stealth
field which makes it invisable. The Pilot leaves his UFO to go a-huntin'.
Fortunately for him, his first target drives up to him, investigating the
fire. The Pilot goes to grab him, but the deputy gets some shots
off, infecting himself.
Once again we see the military/Syndicate in possession of
far advanced technology than the rest of the world. Everything the
Lone Gunmen can grab can't really detect the UFO, yet the military tracked
it so well they managed to get their jet close enough to it to run into
it (remember, space is big. Very big).
So this one part of the road is presumably close to where
the UFO landed, apparantly the same place where the UFO would collect abductees
in "Pilot". Presumably the phenomeon has not been activated these
past seven years, only when the UFO is actually there.
Was Mulder joking about punching Short or not? Because
when he decked Skinner in "Anasazi", he was for review with OPR and was
going to be fired, so he's probably joking.
So the FBI decrees that The X-Files only be used for alien-related
cases. One wonders if Scully will follow this dictum now that Mulder
has been abducted; she did promise to search for him, but surely EVERY
episode isn't going to be about aliens? Perhaps it will work like
this: Scully and her new partner investigate an alledged alien case, but
it just turns out to be terrestial in origan.
Well, Marita looks remarkably well after being on the verge
of the death from the Vaccine treatments a year and a half ago in "One
Son". She was also a prisoner of the Syndicate for betraying them
to Krychek, but now Cancer Man seems to have conveinently forgotten that.
Either that, or he's just so desperate for operatives he has to dig in
the 'People Who Betrayed Me' folder.
Another question is why Cancer Man feels the need to use
Krychek. Either for the above reason, or Cancer Man feels he's some
kind of warped father figure for Krychek. He mentions to Martia that
he will find the UFO, so presumably he would be the best person.
But is this really true? First of all, Mulder and Scully will recognize
him. Second of all, he only has one arm!
Apparantly whenever someone breaks the field, there's a large
release of radiation. Perhaps the field is run on radiation.
Or perhaps that radiation attack on the boys was a seperate and conscious
action done to scare the second boy away.
Presumably the first boy was another abductee. The
Pilot is only taking abductees, presumably he would just kill anyone else.
It should also be noted that The Pilot is not just taking
Bellefleur abductees. He takes the deputy, who was an abductee but
from a different region (and had different things done to him), and he
takes Mulder.
Cancer Man has Krychek jailed for stealing something that
was his. This must've happened offscreen at some point between "Amor
Fati" and now, because in "Amor Fati" we see Krychek working on Cancer
Man's coverup. This can't be referring to Krychek going after the
alien fetus in "One Son" because a) he appeared to be following Cancer
Man's orders there, and b) the Faceless Rebels took it before he got there.
Now that Krychek is back around, you have to wonder if he
still has the little computer that can activate the nanotechology floating
around in Skinner's bloodstream, with which he blackmailed him in "S.R.
819" and "Biogenesis". Perhaps he'll use it to keep Skinner from
testifying about Mulder being abducted by a UFO as Skinner says he will
do.
We've all heard about the Roswell incident, but Corona has
never been mentioned before. Cancer Man seems to be saying that it
took place around the same time as Roswell. If it took place just
before Roswell, that would explain why government men showed up at Roswell
before the alledged crash in "The Unnatural", but then again that entire
story was probably fictional.
So Cancer Man wants to rebuild the Project, by recovering
this UFO. This is strange though. The Pilot works for the Colonists,
so taking the UFO would be an act of aggression against the Colonists,
while The Project is all about collaboration.
In any case, restarting the Project will require the recreation
of the vast infrastructure, though Cancer Man's continued infiltration
of the military and government should make this a relatively easy task.
The Pilot masquerading as Det. Miles makes sense, since he
is then put in charge of the investigation for his UFO, and can thus lead
the search away from it. But Det. Miles is with the abductees at
the end; but he was never an abductee! So why wasn't he just killed?
Perhaps this is just The Pilot showing his caring side, not killing unless
absolutely necessary.
Now here's a mystery. Teresa is right next to her baby,
and she is infected with the alien biotoxin, but the baby isn't.
Since the both of the baby's parents were abductees, this suggests that
the child of two abductees is some kind of Hybrid immune to the biotoxin.
Since Mulder is technically an abuctee, Scully's child should be immune
as well.
Scully's first spell seems to be the first night they arrive.
Notice that Scully's second spell is after the scene where Teresa disappeared,
where the alien biotoxin was released. Then she goes in the field.
Her third spell is when she's examinating abductee medical records with
the Lone Gunmen. Obviously all three incidents are connected to the
abductees. Scully goes near the field that first day, and later has
a spell. She's exposed to the remnants of the biotoxin and has a
spell. Then after her exposure to the field, she feints (and is then
presumably taken to the hospital where she is found pregnant). Perhaps
even just looking at the medical files spurned this on, like Mulder being
'activated' by the rubbing of the Artifact in "Biogenesis".
Cancer Man seems to know about the stealth field, but we've
never seen it before. Presumably he has.
Cancer Man says if he told Krychek how to find the UFO through
the stealth field, he'd be tempted to sell the information. To who?
Mulder? Unlikely. His Russian Syndicate? Perhaps.
However Kim Manners has been saying in chats this year that Krychek is
working with the Faceless Rebels. Maybe this is a dropped idea, or
maybe Krychek is selling secrets to the Faceless Rebels. Maybe this
is why he was imprisoned, and he's hoping to show them how to break the
Colonists' stealth field. Remember, in "The Red and the Black" the
Colonist UFO kicked the Faceless Rebel's UFO's ass.
Cancer Man says the UFO is rebuilding itself. Presumably
this means the ship has some automatic regenerative ability, like programmed
nanobats, or perhaps the ship is in someway alive.
Cancer Man thinks the UFO has the answers to all things,
all questions. This sounds like the Artifact/UFO from "Biogenesis"
and "The Sixth Extinction". Does this mean that EVERY UFO has the
engravings describing the origans of life? Or that Cancer Man knows
this one is special? Or maybe Cancer Man is just nuts at this point,
why else would he recruit Krychek and Marita of all people.
Scully's exposure to the stealth field seems to have been
what made her fertile again. She has a few spells prior to this,
but that was more of a hint of it than the actual event. It's also
pretty blatant that Mulder is the father of the child (Carter and Ducovney
have said as much). Obviously from "All Things" on (or perhaps earlier),
Mulder and Scully have been in a sexual relationship. They never
bothered with contraseptives since she was thought to be barren, but when
she was made fertile in the stealth field she still had some of Mulder's
sperm in her (presumably from the night before when they cuddled on the
bed), and thus life is made.
It's doubtful that the aliens impregnated Scully, since at
the same time The Pilot was across town abducting Billy.
Notice that Scully asks "why is this happening to me" when
she is found, while she is still dizzy. Perhaps, due to her latent
psychic abilities, she was aware she was just made fertile, but later forgot
this.
If only we could have seen the scene where Krychek and Marita
first approach Skinner... Skinner is surprizingly civil towards Krychek
considering how much damage he's had at his hands. Krychek beat him
up and stole the DAT tape from him in "Blessing Way", and Skinner took
every opprutunity to beat the crap out of Krychek in "Tunguska".
Plus Krychek had been blackmailing Skinner these past few months with the
nanotechnology, which had briefly killed him. Surely he has some
pent up frustration over all this!
It's intersting to note that Mulder and Krychek haven't seen
in each other in two and a half years, when Krychek broke into Mulder's
apartment in "The Red and the Black" then gave him a stirring speech and
a peck on the cheek. Mulder seemed to consider Krychek an ally there
(though he learned Krychek was blackmailing Skinner in "The Sixth Extinction").
Before that, they last saw each other in "Terma" when they both escaped
from the Russian Syndicate's Tunguska Gulag.
So Krychek and Marita helped Mulder stop Cancer Man from
rebuilding The Project. So what's next for them now? Have they
given up their evil betraying ways? Will they be having rough sex
again? Will they become informants for Scully and/or Skinner?
If they don't want The Project to return, that probably means they won't
rejoin the government/military.
Skinner has met Marita before in "Zero Sum". Skinner
has met the Lone Gunmen before in The Movie and another episode that fails
my memory. This is the first time Krychek or Marita have run into
the Gunmen however.
It's strange that the abductees demonstrate the same thing
to happened when Mulder was 'activated' in "The Sixth Extinction".
After all, he got precognative and telepathic abilities and was thrown
in a nut house! Surely they experienced some lesser extent of this.
Scully claims that Mulder's 'activation' happened "earlier
this year". This makes sense if you consider a television series
as starting around January and ending around Decemeber. But as we've
seen several times, the television season mimicks its airing order.
The season begins in the early Fall and ends in the Spring. So for
Scully's comment to make sense, "Requiem" took place in late 1999 or "Sixth
Extinction" took place in early 2000 (but they didn't!). Just try
not to think about it...
It is strange that Scully was rejected by the stealth field
since she WAS an abductee. It might be because she was a different
batch than the Bellefleur abductions, but so was the deputy (and Det. Miles
wasn't an abductee at all!). Since the field is presumably operating
by itself and not by The Pilot or some intelligence, the reaction must
automatic and scientific in nature. Could be because she had Mulder's
sperm in her?
In any case, the most likely scenario is that Scully being
made fertile was just an unintended side effect to her exposure to the
stealth field. The alien radiation energies of the field must have
stimulated ovum production again or something. Remember, at the time
she was in the field The Pilot was across town grabbing Billy.
The reason Mulder is taken is stated as being becuase of
his "Sixth Extinction" 'activation'. But another possibility is his
missing time alien abductions from "Max" and "The Red and the Black".
Then again we would have heard something about this by now.
Mulder claims that he's now working cheaply... but did he
really need all those lazers?! Wouldn't one have suffised, just by
waving it around?! Or is just the rationale of it looking cool?
The Pilot doesn't look too happy to have Mulder with them,
but he doesn't kick him out. In any case, that's going to be one
awkward trip for the two of them.
Well Skinner saw a UFO abduct Mulder. It sounds like
this has made him a true believer now.
Cancer Man warns Krychek that killing him and/or Mulder is
to kill mankind. This refers to Mulder then Cancer Man carrying the
alien gene which makes them immune to the Black Oil/viral apocalpyse.
Presumably Mulder is no longer immune unless what little he has left is
enough. If Cancer Man really is killed, then that was a major oppurtunity
blown.
Speaking of "Amor Fati", in that episode Cancer Man was planning
to use the immunity to resist the Colonists. Yet now he wants to
restart The Project, which before meant collaboration. BUT... what
if he wanted to restart The Project in order to spread his new immunity
to the Black Oil? This would have been the right thing to do.
But surely if this was true, Cancer Man would take the time to explain
this to Marita and/or Krychek, and they would then agree to work with him.
And again, grabbing the UFO is an aggressive move, so maybe he really had
a good master plan after all.
It remains to be seen whether Cancer Man survives, but if
he does than Krychek is quite an idiot for not checking for a pulse before
leaving, or something more permant like say decaptiating him. Just
to be sure.
So Skinner is prepared to tell the FBI that he saw an alien
UFO take Mulder. Assuming he sticks with this, and assuming Krychek
doesn't blackmail him out of it with the nanotechology, this will likely
discredit Skinner even further.
Also notice that Scully only told Skinner she is pregnant,
and they're going to keep it a secret from everyone else.
Why exactly is Scully keeping her pregnancy a secret?
What is she afraid of? Will she keep it from her mother and brother,
as she initially did with her nasal cancer in "Memento Mori"?
Oh, and need I once again mention that the Pilot took place
in 1992 so it was EIGHT and not SEVEN years ago again? I thought
not.
