Part Three
Buffy made her way through the graveyard to the underground entrance. She sensed something behind her and swung around, staking the vampire swiftly, and continued on her way before it even disintegrated.
"What?" asked Xander, staring at the ball Willow held in her hands.
"An Orb of Thessulah," said Willow, patiently. Seeing the confused look on Xanderıs face, Giles explained its meaning.
"An Orb of Thessulah is something used to store a soul, before it can be transferred, or d-destroyed, whatever you may be...um...doing. Willow, just what were you planning on doing with it?" Giles asked.
Willow grinned. "I'm gonna help Buffy."
"What? Are you gonna take Buffy's soul, how would you help...ohhh," Xander finally realized. "You're gonna bring back Angel aren't you? I don't get it. He's bad, and evil, and Buffy's gonna kill him."
"Of course Xander," Willow said soothingly.
"Unless he gets her first..." Xander trailed off.
"Don't say that!" Willow shushed him. "Hey Giles, what's up with Angel anyway? How come he's not...doing anything?" she asked.
"I would consider putting human hearts on her desk at night doing something, wouldn't you?" Giles responded.
"Yeah, but don't you think it's time for, you know, a showdown? A final attack?" Willow asked nervously.
"He does seem to be delaying this a rather long period of time. But who know, uh, how his mind works."
Buffy hummed as she reached the entrance to the underground caves. The walls were cold and the ground was wet. It was dank and dreary inside. Buffy looked around, remembering the time she had faced the master somewhere in these caves. 'I never thought I would have to come down here again,' she thought. All of a sudden she heard a creaking noise and metal clanging. She stopped and listened intently, but she couldn't tell which direction it had come from or if she had just imagined it. She slowly continued walking through the caves.
Finally Buffy came to a large clearing, a roundish room with three exits back to the tunnels. Buffy made a mental note of where she had come in, then looked around, wondering if she was at the right place. All of a sudden she heard a loud groan and the ground vibrated. 'I guess this is the place,' she thought, as she watched the ground, sword in hand, ready to chop off the monster's head.
Giles was concentrating on the book in front of him, looking very frustrated. "This is very strange," he muttered.
"What is it G-man?" Xander asked.
"This book," said Giles. "It says it was written in 1786, but it uses language not even, well, invented at that time."
"It's Latin though, right?" Willow asked.
"Yes, yes it's Latin. But look, the binding and the ink. It's not...something's not right. I don't think this book is genuine."
"Someone wrote a fake book?" Xander asked.
"And a fake prophecy?" Willow added.
"I've never seen this book in my collection until recently," Giles mused.
"So, what are you saying?" asked Willow. "That this is a vamp setup or something?"
"That's quite possible," Giles said with furrowed brows. "I didn't see this book until... These pictures look familiar." Giles pulled a folded paper out of his drawer and opened it up. It was the picture Angelus had drawn of Buffy sleeping. He compared it to some of the sketches in the book. They were of the exact same style. "Angel."
"Angel?" asked Willow.
Giles jumped up and began loading his bag with holy water and stakes.
"We've got to help her. Buffy might be in extreme danger," Giles said, zipping up his bag.
"I don't get it," Xander said, bewildered.
"Angel set Buffy up with a fake prophecy," Willow explained as she packed her own bag.
"Oooh," said Xander.
"We must hurry," said Giles. They all ran for the door. Willow turned around quickly and ran back into the room. Into her bag she threw the printout of the ritual of restoration and the orb of Thessulah. Then she sprinted out to catch the others.
