After Becoming
She watched the ocean waves unfurl as if they were reaching out to drag her in. She would have welcomed that at this point, anything to take away the deep pain in her heart.
She was tired, like a wilting flower. She felt disgusting, as if she hadn't taken a shower for days. Looking out across the sea and past it's depths she trembled. She remembered their lovemaking, sweet a summer evening. But he was dead now. By her own hand. She wiped the sweat from her brow. It was as hot as a sidewalk in summer. Bear feet running across the searing heat of a black sea. Her days were filled with blackness, black as the darkest winter night. She often dreamed of him.
They were together once again, touching, holding each other. Nothing would ever keep them apart again. She fell to her knees in the sand. The feeling of the cool sand was like his lips. She was taken back to the night of their last moment. The anguish in his eyes as she thrusted the sword into him.
The way his hand reached towards her in a silent plea, "Why? How could you do this to me? I loved you!" She covered her ears as if his voice really was echoing across the waves. In her dreams at night he would enter her motel room like a cloaked shadow. They came together as if starving. "I'm sorry, so sorry!" She would cry out, and he would shush her with kisses and whispered affections. But that could never be. Part of her knew she had done the right thing. She could imagine what the world would look like. Hell would take over, and look as if the world had been bombed. After the shelling, her town would look like the mouth of hell was open. And it would be.
She had stopped it. Bu the pleas of her love still rang in her ears. Her treacherous voice blowing whispers in his ears.
"Close your eyes."
Just one moment, one second to drink in his eyes, before they closed forever. One moment to drink in every feature, to remember every moment together, before he was lost. The only thing left of him was her memories. No picture, just the memory of his anguished face burned into her mind forever. And she was a child, trembling like an abandoned kitten. Alone, afraid, and no longer strong. She was changed forever because of one moment of blind passion. She would never be the same. So she sat alone staring out across the gray sea. A tear fell in the vast body of water, a drop of regret in a huge part of the world.
