Appearance: Sardha is surprisingly physically fit for a wizard in her mid-thirties. Due to a daily regimen of ritual calisthenics and meditations, she is well-toned and in good health. Sardha originally hails from Sri Raji, and does little to conceal her origins. Her dusky olive skin and sleek ebony hair give her an unmistakable exotic allure. Her features are delicate and soft, and her eyes are a startling shade of glittering amber. She is comely woman who makes delicate use of pigments and jewelry to heighten her beauty. Sardha has a throaty, maternal voice that surprises some with its gentleness. She wears the traditional garb of women from Sri Raji—silk body wrap, colorful sash and sandals—but generally covers herself with a wool traveling cloak. She carries little but her weapons and a satchel of scrolls and potions. Like many women from her homeland, Sardha conceals herself beneath silken veils, an act of simultaneous modesty and subtle seduction. In recent years, however, Sardha has begun to hide her face out practicality. As her knowledge of the occult world has increased, patches of deep violet snake scales have gradually appeared on her throat and face. Though not personally horrified by this development, Sardha does realize that it may shock impressionable peasants. Background: Born into the brahmin caste in Tvashti, Sardha lived a comfortable and happy childhood. Her parents were supportive of their daughter's intelligence and curiosity, and proudly sponsored her entrance to the University. They thought that perhaps she might become a priestess, but Sardha was also drawn to the darkness that lurked in the jungle, the creatures and forces which filled her people with paralyzing fear. She wanted to understand it, and in understanding it strip it of its power. She devoted many years to intense research into all aspects of the occult. Eventually, she felt that she had to leave her homeland if her knowledge were to continue to increase. She joined the Walkers when it rapidly became clear that she was not able to handle the adventuring life on her own. Since then, she has grown to appreciate her companions immensely, and usually defers to their desires. Sardha lets the other Walkers push them from one battle to the next; she is not a strategist, but a lamp in the darkness. Roleplaying Notes: Sardha holds some fairly radical beliefs about the denizens of the Demiplane. She believes that fear and superstition give power to the Mists and its minions, and that understanding the beings that prey upon mankind will weaken them. To this end, she works with the Walkers to bring her expertise to distant lands and help people protect themselves from the creatures of the night. Sardha knows more about the Demiplane of Dread and its inhabitants than any of her companions; indeed, she knows a great deal more than most residents of the Land of Mists. Though she is a great authority on her own domain of Sri Raji, she has also become very learned about the denizens of other realms. Her own companions usually take little notice of the dark woman in their midst, until the supernatural rears its head, when she steps forward effortlessly to do what she does best. Sardha has even translated a few of the more popular Van Richten Guides into Rajian for the University of Tvashti. She is not all bookishness, however. She also has a caring side that endears her to Gregor, for she shows great sympathy for those who have suffered under the children of the night. However, she tends to be awkward and pensive in social situations, and so she normally leaves the talking to her companions. Sardha interacts with the occult in a mature, almost casual fashion. She does not often give heed to the potential danger to herself, though she never endangers her companions or innocents. Her lack of caution and vigilance may be her downfall; the Dark Powers have called to her on more than one occasion. In addition to the serpent scales on her flesh, Sardha has found that she cannot chew her food properly, and instead must swallow it whole. She is not panicked about these developments, but is curious about whether she is undergoing some transformation, perhaps as a result of overexposure to corrupting energies or a curse from the gods whose worship she has neglected.
