For the Tracy/Nightwatch challenge: "Write a story where Tracy requests a
song on Nightwatch. Doesn't have to be a romance between LC and Tracy,
could be she's taunting him, or could be that it has nothing to do with
LC at all. Have fun!"
Disclaimers - don't own FK or NIN's song 'kinda i want to,' but I'd
-love- to have Lacroix or Trent Reznor. Permission to archive granted to
Mel and the DP, all others please ask.

kinda i want to
by: cousin mary (jenkins)

"Can you play a song for me?"

He could almost hear her holding her breath as she waited for an answer.
From the voice he knew this caller was a young woman, there was
something familiar about the timbre of her voice too, but no one in
particular came to mind, probably just a club goer he'd overheard from
time to time. He chuckled, "Of course my dear, what song?"

"Nine Inch Nails," She hesitated, "kinda i want to."

He raised an eyebrow at that. While NIN was hardly an unusual request
on Nightwatch, something about how she asked for it... "Is there a
dedication?" He asked, willing this curiosity to stay on the line just a
bit longer.

"Um, to you," She whispered quickly then hung up.

Slightly annoyed that the most intriguing prospect of the night had cut
the line, he none-the-less cued up the song. "And here we have 'kinda i
want to," He told his listeners, then chuckled, "Dedicated... to me.
Seems someone has taste."

i can't shake this feeling from my head
there's a devil sleeping in my bed
he's watching you from across the way
i cannot make this feeling go away

Lacroix nearly stopped the song right then. Had he heard right? Well,
this was interesting. Was he supposed to be the devil in her bed or was
she being watched, he wondered. Perhaps if he knew who she was he
-would- watch, and perhaps... more.

i know it's not the right thing
and i know it's not the good thing
        kinda i want to
        kinda i want to

Well, well, an invitation was it? Lacroix smiled slightly as he traced
one long finger over the phone. Just who had the caller been? He had
recognised the voice, he knew he had. And as the song played on the more
his interest was piqued.

i'm not sure of what i should do
when every thought i'm thinking of is you
all of my excuses turn to lies
or maybe God will cover up his eyes

Now this -was- definitely to his liking. Really, could anything be more
amusing than a woman who seduced herself for you? Amusement lit his
eyes, my, my, it seemed he had a fan. One who appreciated his particular
brand of charm.

and i know it's not the right thing
and i know it's not the good thing
        kinda i want to
        kinda i want to
        kinda i want to
        kinda i want to

Unbidden Lacroix felt his canines start to throb. Was it possible his
gentle listener had the slightest notion what she was dealing with?
Probably not. He should not bother wasting his thoughts on her. But
still... there had been something in her voice...

        kinda i want to
        maybe just for tonight
        we can pretend it's alright
        what's the price i pay
i don't care what they say

Dammit! She was either playing with him or had gotten very lucky!
Taking a long swallow from the wine goblet, Lacroix found himself looking
up at the clock on the wall. The show was almost over, soon he could get
out of the too warm sound booth. Away from, he looked down at the phone
again, of course, maybe he didn't want to get away...

        i want to
        i want to
        i want to
        i want to
        i want to
        i want to
        i want to
        i want to

As the final chords faded and Nightwatch went off the air, Lacroix
picked up the receiver, hit *69, and waited for -her- to answer.

        "Vetter."
