War: DP: To Kill a MockingPerk (1/1)
Place: Dark Perk Mansion (aka Casa de Perky), the kitchen, by the coffee pots
Time: Monday the 8th, mid-morning
By: Cousin Mary
"So where here again why?" Megan asked, flipping her long blonde hair over her
shoulder and glaring at no one in particular. Megan hadn't had any coffee yet this
morning and was about ready to start gnawing on the actual coffee pots if some wasn't
made soon. "I mean we're here for the coffee, but what's with the war?"
"Well, it looks like we're here for a rock," Mary answered with a shrug.
"A rock? Like Scorpion? Here I am, rock you like a hurricane?" Eric proceeded to
break into song.
Mary grinned, fishing a few coffee grinders out from a cabinet and setting them up.
Soon they would enjoy the fruits of their labor, soon they would enjoy the Pharaoh's
perfect beans. "Mmm, insanity."
"It'd serve you right if it did drive ya all bonkers." Came the cackling voice of Mrs.
Hitchcock, the DP Mansion's housekeeper, from the kitchen door. "Not that anyone could
tell with you lot!"
Megan just stuck out her tongue at the old bat, who walked off after one last evil
glare at them all.
"Anyway, like I said," Mary began, "Julia, you know the kickass leader of the UF?
She ended up with a copy of that treaty from Blackwing and-"
"She killed Gary Blackwing?!" Eric asked in mock shock, "Now –that's- a plot twist!"
"No, she bought a –photocopy-," It was Mary's turn to make a face. Everyone was
just a little too excited about the new coffee and they were all a bit too quick with the
wisecracks today. Patience wasn't really a virtue the DP had. "So she bought the copy
and saw there was mysterious writing on the side."
"Was it in pig-latin?" Megan asked with a grin at Eric, "I bet it was in pig-latin. All
mysterious writings should be in pig-latin."
Mary gave a long-suffering sigh, "It was in Mississauga, or at least the phonetics of
it." She cut Eric off with a glare before he could make another comment, "Mississauga
was the language the tribe that made the treaty spoke."
Eric pouted that his fun had been thwarted, but then cheered with the question,
"But the message –was- about pigs, right?"
Mary was so busy glaring at Eric and the giggling Megan that when she grabbed
the first bag of the precious beans she and the others had retrieved from Egypt, she didn't
even notice how odd they looked before she dumped them into the coffee grinder. Soon
the mouthwatering aroma of freshly ground coffee beans filled the room, "Ooo, that's the
stuff."
"So the message was about the rock you mentioned earlier?" Megan asked, her
mood much improved now that coffee was imminent.
"Yeah," Mary distractedly added more beans to another grinder and started it up
too, "Julia called Cloud, you remember Cloud she was a DP awhile back, anyway, Cloud
got a hold of Vachon-"
"Lucky girl," Megan gave a lustful sigh, "I'd like to get a hold of Vachon…"
"As I was saying," Mary added beans to the last grinder, "Vachon translated the
writing as saying it led to this rock that was inscribed with, and I quote here, a cure for the
disease that bites viciously like a wolf in winter and often kills."
"A cure for rabies?" Eric asked, "That would come in handy."
"Don't they already have a cure for rabies?" Megan asked, seizing one of the
grinders and dumping the newly made powder into an awaiting French press. She added
the water before she continued, "And why would we be called to war about a cure for
rabies?"
"If we were a fandom for 'To Kill a Mockingbird' it'd make sense," Eric pointed out
reasonably.
"You two are just hilarious, anyone ever tell you that?" Mary rolled her eyes and
added some grounds to one of the automatic drip coffee makers on the counter.
"All right, so I'm assuming that the disease in question, people are thinking it might
be vampirism?" Megan asked, pouring herself a cup of joe. She was much more practical
now that caffeine was near.
"That's the theory," Mary nodded, pouring herself a cup as well.
"So what you're saying is that Nick and Lacroix are going to be running around the
dark, freezing Ontario wilderness looking for a rock?" Eric grinned, getting his own cup.
"Yeppers, at least their factions will," Mary nodded, then looked at her cup before
meeting Megan and Eric's eye. "Ready?"
As one the three Dark Perks raised their mugs. The first slightly bitter, yet sweet
drops crossed their lips. Heaven! Sheer bliss! Surely this was a coffee meant for the
gods!
"Oh my," Megan's eyes were huge as she set down her now empty mug, "That was
the best coffee I've ever had."
"That was the best –anything- I've ever had," Mary agreed, pouring herself another
mug full.
Eric didn't say anything, just went to get the others. Everyone had to try this coffee!
