War: DP/Vaq: A Screaming Fine Ride
Place: Mean streets of Toronto
Time: Thursday the 11th around 10PM
By: Cousin Mary and Teri DeLong
Mary was meeting her friend Teri at 'Read It Again, Sam,' her favorite
Toronto used-bookstore. Sure Teri was a DP too, but she was playing as a Vaq,
Vaq leadership in fact, but they still had to make time to catch up, even in a War.
Just then the sound a small convoy of motorcycles drove by and soon Teri was
walking in the door.
The heels of Teri's cowboy boots clicked across the linoleum floor, her black
leather jacket glowed almost blue under the florescent lights, and Mary was a bit
annoyed that Teri looked so much cooler than she did… "Heya Teri!"
"Hi Mary!" Teri grinned looking around the shop, "They have any coffee
here?"
"Can take the DP out of the Mansion," Mary smiled, "But can't take the coffee
out of the DP."
"So true," Teri flopped down in an armchair facing her friend, "So how's the
war going?"
"Eh, hanging in there," Mary shrugged, "Hit on Miklos, attacked the Knighties
and Cousins, same ol' same ol'."
Teri looked around again, "You know, they have Buckstars coffee shops
inside Narnes and Boble?"
"Yeah, but I brought something else for you to try," Mary smiled widely,
hauling up her bag and handing the brunette one of two travel mugs, "Try it! It's a
new blend, Egyptian!"
Teri gave the dark pink mug a wary glance, but then decided from the way
Mary was slurping her own down it probably wasn't an attack. She tried it, "Man!
That's really good!"
"Isn't it?" Mary grinned, fairly bouncing in her seat, "We've been drinking it all
War, but this is stronger than I usually make it. Figured you could use it."
"Oh yeah," Teri nodded before taking another sip, "Oh wow this is terrific."
"So what do you want to do tonight?" Mary asked suddenly, "This place is
going to close soon and I don't have to be anywhere 'til tomorrow."
"Uh," Teri paused to think about it.
"I don't even have my cell! A Cousin took off with it," Mary explained with a
grin, "So no one can even call me back tonight!"
Teri watched the blonde fidget a bit longer, "Mary, how much coffee have you
had?"
"More than enough probably," Mary's eyes danced, "Come on, let's go for a
walk or something, burn some of this off."
So the two women left the bookstore and made their way down the
sidewalks, absently looking in shop windows and drinking their wonderful, if a bit
strong, coffee.
"Hey! Look where we are!" Teri pointed across the street, "The 96th."
Sure enough the pair had wandered all the way to Queen and Spadina. Mary
started across the street, leaving Teri no choice but to follow, "Looks just like the
show."
"Huh, Nick and Tracy must be gone, the Caddy is missing," Teri pointed out,
"But there's Tracy's Taurus."
"And what a screaming fine ride it is," The DP and Vaq shared a grin.
"Hey," Mary said suddenly, reaching into her pocket and pulling something
out, "Wanna go for a ride?"
"What?" Teri frowned before realizing what was on the bunny-shaped chain in
her friend's hand, "Those are her keys?!"
"We'll be back before she is," Mary assured her, "Come on! No one will
know!"
The Vaq shook her head, this couldn't be a good idea. She took another sip
of the wonderful coffee. But while it wasn't a –good- idea it sounded like a really –
fun- idea, "Okay, but I get to drive."
"Deal!" Mary tossed her the keys and climbed into the passenger's side.
Teri climbed behind the wheel and adjusted the seat for her 5'5" frame. Her
hands curled around the steering-wheel, "Dual air bags, ABS--bet it gets great
mileage."
Mary snickered beside her, "Just start it up."
Teri grinned and turned the key, the engine purred and the radio started
playing 'Rhinestone Cowboy.'
"What the-?!" Mary slapped the radio off, "I didn't know she listened to that!"
Teri giggled at the look on the Godmommy's face. At least it hadn't been
CERK, she didn't think either of them was ready to consider what that might mean.
"So where to?" Mary asked.
"Dunno," Teri shrugged as she pulled out of the parking lot. "Cruise towards
the Raven?"
"Is it even open?" The blonde looked out the window in the club's general
direction.
"I think the War Maestro is running it maybe?" Teri shrugged, "Hey, you got
any more of that coffee?"
"Oh yes!" Mary spun around in her seat and grabbed her bag, "I brought a
whole big thermos!"
"Of course," Teri laughed, "Well, fill me up!"
After a few more cups of the super-strong, mysterious Pharaoh insanity
coffee both woman were cruising around downtown Toronto, the windows down and
the heaters on full blast. Teri had found Tracy's sunglasses and was wearing them,
despite the fact that it was well after mid-night. The radio was back on, blaring out
War's Low Rider, "All my friends ride in low riders!" They sang along, loudly and off-
key.
"Any more coffee?" Teri asked.
"Lemme see," Mary twisted in her seat again, "A bit."
"Hand it over," Once handed the thermos, Teri up-ended the gallon-sized jug
and claimed the last mouthful. "Man that's good!"
Mary nodded enthusiastically, then turned back to her window, "Wait! Stop
the car!"
Teri slowed and looked around for a moment before she saw what Mary
seemed so excited about. "Vachon!"
The Spanish vampire looked up when the blue Taurus cruised slowly past
him. He blinked, he recognized that car, it was Tracy Vetter's. He looked closer,
neither woman in the car was Tracy.
The car came to a stop about 20 feet past him, then reversed fast and
suddenly screeched to a stop in front of him. Vachon moved a bit closer, that was
Mary in the passenger seat, it made sense the DP leader would be in Tracy's car,
but… No, behind the wheel, that couldn't be Teri. Vachon paused, he didn't even
want to –think- about the trouble those two could get into!
The vampire cautiously moved to the curb and looked down at Mary who was
smiling up at him with a look in her eyes he didn't quite trust. "Hi Mary."
"Hi Vachon," The blonde chirped happily.
His eyes narrowed and he slowly leaned down just to make sure it wasn't
Teri…
Suddenly Mary leaned up and grabbed two big handfuls of hair and before
he knew it, his lips were pressed firmly against that of a Dark Perk's.
"Mary!" Teri yelped, seizing hold of the back of her friend's shirt and hauling
her back into the car. Once she was sure no one was touching anyone they
shouldn't, she floored it. "Please tell me you didn't tongue him!"
"Oh like you wouldn't have!" Mary shot back then stilled, "Oh my god! I just
kissed Vachon!"
"Yeah, kinda saw that," Teri was still speeding down the road well past the
legal limit, "Why the holy heck did you do that anyway? I thought you didn't like him!"
"I don't!"
Teri frowned, Mary didn't –like- Vachon! It was one of the oldest running
jokes. The DP leader was famous for writing Tracy with anyone but Vachon! Why'd
she kiss him? She glanced into her mirror, behind them Vachon was still standing
there, looking too startled to even blink.
Beside her Mary looked down right disturbed, She kept mumbling "I –kissed-
Vachon!" over and over again.
Teri started shaking her head, unsure how any of this had happened, when
suddenly her mirrors were filled with a whole new sight. Flashing lights.
"Damn," Teri mumbled and started to pull over.
"Don't pull over!" Mary cried suddenly, "This isn't our car!"
But it was too late.
"Damndamndamn."
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>.
The next morning found Teri and Mary playing war with a deck of cards they'd
found in their brand new cell.
"'Nother game?" Mary offered.
"Oh god I can't believe we got arrested!" Teri threw down her cards.
"Well, we were going 80 in a stolen car," Mary pointed out.
"Borrowed car!" Teri cried, "We only borrowed it!"
"Usually 'borrowing' entails 'asking,'" Came a voice from the other side of the
bars.
Teri spun around, "Tracy!"
"Teri, Mary," Tracy nodded at them, unlocking the cell door, "My car?"
"We were going to get it back before you got off shift," Mary smiled at her
faction leader hopefully.
Tracy just sighed, "I dropped the charges, you both owe me."
"Yes Tracy," Mary and Teri chorused and then raced for the door before
anyone changed their minds. "Whew, what a night!"
