Greater Rune Weapon: Sword of the Elements (adapted from Dark Stalkers: Night Warriors)

The Sword of the Elements is a greater rune weapon empowered by four elemental fragments. The sword is an enormous greatsword made of red stone that floats behind its owner. The sword weighs sixty pounds, has a five foot long blade, and is nearly one foot wide. The owner directs the sword to attack with hand motions and gestures. The elemental powers of the sword can be activated three times daily, summoning the elemental fragments from their plane to wield the sword in the aid of the user. The elementals focus their attacks through the sword and can only be summoned when the sword is floating free. Each elemental returns to the elemental plane as soon as its single attack is completed. Warlocks can communicate with the fragments and may be able to convince the fragments to stay (duration equal to 6th level). The sword lacks other powers common to rune weapons.

Fire Fragment: A bearded dwarf-like being of fire appears behind the owner with the sword in hand and delivers a vicious strike to an enemy. The strike engulfs the victim in flames and has a good chance of knocking down the victim. Inflicts 2d4 X 10 + 20 MD and has a range of 25ft. See knockdown tables.

Saving Throw: NA; Dodge

Water Fragment: A delicate nymph-like being of water appears behind the owner and blows a kiss off the sword toward the victim. The kiss freezes/encases the target momentarily. The victim suffers 4d6 SDC (no damage to MD creatures) from frostbite. The ice kiss has a 60% chance to knock the victim down, who loses one attack and initiative. Dragons, Metzla, non-bipeds, and most other powerful supernatural creatures will not be knocked down.

Range: 60ft

Saving Throw: 12 or better

Earth Fragment: By stabbing the sword into the ground (earth, clay, stone, etc) the sword will charge itself with elemental power. The sword can then heal wounds, accompanied by the brief appearance of a human-like being of earth, equal to a 6th level wizard or be thrown in a boomerang-like manner. The thrown sword inflicts 5d6 MD and returns to the wielder.

Range: 700ft

Saving Throw: NA; Dodge

Air Fragment: An armored being of air appears behind the owner with the sword in hand. Six lightning bolts erupt from the sword and strike the target. The electrical barrage in nearly instantaneous and inflicts 6d6 MD to the victim. As the bolts strike, the lightning takes on the shape of the sword's blade.

Range: 600ft

Saving Throw: None, as Call Lightning
