Orphan looked at his watch. "Oh my gosh!!" he shouted. He jumped off of the couch, dug his feet into his sandals, and hopped out the door. "Bye Mom!" His mother never heard it because he was already on the road. It was 11:54 pm and Orphan had to move quick. His aunt told him she would give him his first monster if he would get there by midnight. Now, normally he wouldn't care so much because there was a market a few blocks away, but this was different. His Aunt Holly had assisted a famous monster trainer and had some rare disks locked away. According to the rules, he couldn't keep a rare monster until he was qualified, but as his aunt had said, "Your qualified for anything."
Orphan gave a quick glance at his watch. "11:59!" Finally, he got there. He litterally jumped off his bike and grabbed the door knob at his aunt's house. He had never so fiercley knocked on a person's door ever before. Then, the door opened.
"Orphan! I knew you would make it. Come on in." Mrs. Kanuel opended the door to a hall. It was small and domed and lead to two doors. One door Orphan recognized: the marble and brass door that opened the way to his aunt's kitchen. The other, he never really gave much thought to but now he gave it a closer look. It was old and moldy but the really interesting part of it was the knob looked like a mystery disc.
"Where does that lead?" Orphan asked silently.
"Patience. That is where we are going." She opened it carefully. All Orphan could see was a path of stairs lighted by torches. He and Aunt Holly crept down the flight. Then, there was a huge dungeon! Orphan wondered why he was never told about this before. But his attention quickly changed focus on the pile of mystery disks in the center of the room. He ran extemely fast toward the pile and it wasn't long until he noticed an odd thing about these disks. "What are the blobs in the center of these disks?"
"Haha," Aunt Holly had a sparkle in her eyes, "Those are the pieces of the trainer I assisted's last monster."
"Which monster was it?" Orphan felt odd to realize that his aunt had actually had a life.
"It was a Gil named Tragic Magic. Oh, he was the monster that finally beat the Big 4. Unfortuneatly, the trainer I assisted died shortly after. I froze the Gil but some burgulars in the lab broke it and smashed Tragic Magic into pieces. I shall never forgive those burgulars. Oddly enough, they were never found. All that was at the crime scene was a blob, much as if it was another Jell."
"Excuse me, but what is a Gil?" Orphan mentally kicked himself for not knowing all the names of monsters.
"Oh that is right. Haha. We are in the IMA area. Then I must say Tragic Magic was a Noble Jell." This spark of information gave Aunt Holly the break she needed from the extremely sad story. "Anyway, Tragic Magic's heart was in pieces so I put them on all my rare disks. Take one now."
Orphan studied the disks carefully. He didn't know what to pick. This would be his only chance to get a rare monster early on. Finally, he deicided in a disk on the bottem of the pile. It had a chip on the edge and it seemed that when he picked it up the heart started beating again. Without saying a word he handed it to his aunt. Then, Aunt Holly strolled deeper into the room while motioning for Orphan to follow. They continued for what seemed like an hour to Orphan yet it was only one minute. Finally, they reached an odd looking machine. Orphan didn't take his eyes off of it for a moment. It had a stand with several buttons on it and then a platform that looked like a giant record player except with statues of the head of a monster around it. "What monster is that?"
"The most wonderful monster there is, the Pheonix. Many trainers hope to get a chance to raise one but very few get a chance. Now then, when I put the disk in the center you press the blue button. Got it?"
"Got it."
Aunt Holly felt so wonderful of what she was doing it can't be discribed. "I have waited so long for this. I hope you and your new monster will get along like thy trainer and thy monster should." She slowly put the disk on the machine's centerpiece. "Now Orphan!"
Orphan didn't know, maybe it just felt right, but as he pressed the blue button he shouted, "Unlock!!!!!!" To this day it is still ringing in his ear. The disk started to spin. It then continued but some light appeared above it. Faster! Faster! The lights came together and then apart. Faster! Faster! The disk did loop-to-loops. Faster! Faster! But no, it did not get faster, it got slower and then stopped. One light was still above the disk. POP! Then a beautiful monster was in its place. "What is it?"
"It is called Undine. You are very lucky. It is known as the Jell-woman. Now, let's look at the computer for its stats." They shuffled over to the moniter that was displaying numbers. "Very good. It is nice and strong. I hope you will like it."
"How could I not?"
"True. Very true. Now, what are you going to name it? Keep in mind that it will always have that name."
"In honor of the great Tragic Magic, I name it, Happy Magic."
"You have done a great thing."
Without answering, Orphan hopped over to Happy Magic. She was beautiful and he could tell she was very strong. "Hi, Happy Magic."
"Is that my name? Who are you?"
"Yes, it is. And I am your friend, trainer, and companion."
Nostalgia clouded Aunt Holly's mind. "No, Orphan, you are just his friend."
"So you are." Undine's smile lighted Orphan's heart and got him ready for the large task ahead of him.
