Captain's Log

Season 4
Video 4.12

Living Witness 8.5
Episode 91

A curious holographic tableau is on display in a Kyrian Museum and the curator, Quarren, explains to visitors how the intervention of the Voyager spacecraft started an apocalyptic war on a planet inhabited by two species: the Kyrians and the Vaskans. Ethnic rivalries between the two races are still uneasy, seven hundred years after Voyager has come and gone, and some Vaskan visitors are appalled by the Kyrians reconstruction of history based on a few recovered artifacts. But more damaging information is on the way, when Quarren activates a newly discovered device containing active data. This turns out to be the holograph program for The Doctor, who soon finds himself on trial for war crimes attributed to Voyager and its crew over seven centuries ago.

A very good holodoc episode with great acting. It was very different and very intriguing as well as funny. Did I laugh at Captain Janeway and her hooligans! A twisted, smiling Tuvok, a Harry Kim bully, and what about Chakotay's tatoo... and the icing of the cake, a totally non- compassionate Janeway with yet again a new hair-do!. Wow-that was sure good. The actors must have had so much fun playing this! I would have given this episode a higher rating if it hadn't been for the ending. It was getting really exciting and then the last events are just another simulation and you never get to see how the doc and the Kyrian Quarren solves the crises. Bahh-I hate when they cut stories short. I can see the finesse but I will still sulk for a while. Rating 8.5/10 for the puny ending.

Episode 92

With fuel dwindling to nothing, Voyager lands on a "demon" planet -- so-called because its environment is toxic to human life -- to collect from its vast deuterium lode. Both Tom Paris and Harry Kim are suited up in protective gear and sent out to collect the precious deuterium, but return without their protective suits. Instead, it is now Voyager's environment that is poisonous to them. They discover that the viscous, freezing cold metallic fluid - that's found in pools on the surface and in which the deuterium is concentrated - creates a duplicate of the person that touches it. The difference is, that the duplicates are able to survive easily on the planet, but not on Voyager.

Oh no! This is the sucker episode this season. I was hoping the show wouldn't sink this low. This is just, er, crap really. What is this story? Yuck. Yet again they try to develop Kim and Paris but they have to take the worst script since False Profits. SIGH. Better try to forget it as quickly as possible. Rating 3.5/10.
