The Awakening is the first novel of the bestselling trilogy The Vampire Diaries. There are actually four novels, but I don't think L.J.Smith thought there was going to be more books after the initial trilogy, but hey the more L.J.Smith books, the merrier! Right? In this book, we meet Elena Gilbert, the Queen of Robert E. Lee High School in Fell's Church, Virginia. She has good looks, popularity, everything! She even has the star quarterback of the football team, Matt Honeycutt. And she has great friends, Bonnie and Meredith. Elena has just returned from France and is going back to school for her senior year. She hasn't seen her friends all summer so she's anxious to get back. When she gets there, she finds that her best friend since kindergarten, Caroline, is turning against her. But this is the least of her worries. When Bonnie predicts Elena will meet a dark, handsome stranger, she dismissed it, but then the sleak black car pulls into the parking lot and beautiful, Italian Stefan Salvatore steps out of it. Right then and there, Elena vows to have him, no matter what. What ensues is a web of secrets and deception that is sure to tickle your fantastic side. This book has a great deal of romance too. I think it's one of L.J's best in terms of romance, only beat out by The Forbidden Game. The book reads fast and keeps you reading until you've finished the book in one day! It's that alluring. I highly recommend this book and trilogy to anyone who loves romance, suspense, and really hot Italian guys! For more info on this novel, go here.
