Disclaimer: These characters are not mine. If they were do you think I'd be
HERE? No. There Chris Carter's. They also belong to FOX, and Ten Thirteen
Productions.

Note: I got this idea after reading a fabulous "What if they met when they
were kids" except it lacked something, so *I* decided to write one myself and
include that special something!! Wondering what it is aren't you! Ha! I also
got this idea after seeing a clip of when M/S first met. If you watch REALLY
close, Scully looks Mulder up! I bet your running for the VCR right now
aren't you?! Come back! You still have to read the story!

Spoilers: None really. But it helps if you have seen the First Episode.

Language/Rating: Ummm..I give it a PG. There is some bad words depending on
your upbringing, so it's up to you.

High School Blues
by: C.M. Dansler

Scully pulled the strap of her backpack over her left shoulder nervously.
*This is it* she thought, and pulled a slobbery string of red hair out of her
mouth. Dana Scully, age 15 was starting her sophomore year at a new
highschool, and she was scared stiff. Scully pressed down on the handle and
walked into a room full of teenagers her age, interrupting the psychology
lecture going on.
"So, what is Bob Dylan's tambourine man really----May I help you?" A blonde,
tall woman smiled, flashing her perfect white teeth.
"Umm, I'm new." Dana handed the teacher a pink slip and retreated to an
empty desk at the back of the room as fast as she could.
"Class, this is Dana Scully. She'll be joining us this semester, so lets
make her welcome. Okay?" It was a rhetorical question by far.
Dana looked up from her desk for the first time and studied the faces around
her. About all she could see was the backs of heads as they leaned into their
notebooks, scribbling frantically to keep up with their teachers words. Dana
turned to her right and looked at a tall boy sitting across the isle. He was
really cute to the red-headed teenager. Dana did not realize she was staring
at him until he sighed and looked back at her. *He saw her!* Dana blushed and
looked down at her tennis shoes.
"Okay class, I want you to pair up with the person to your right and discuss
the ink blot on page thirty-three of your textbooks."
Dana didn't look up from her desk as chairs scooted across the carpet, moans
escaped weary teenagers mouths, binders slammed shut and textbooks flew open.
"Okay, I'll come to you." A boys voice said beside her. Dana hadn't even
noticed the boy scoot over.
"Oh." Dana looked at him again, "I.uh, I don't have a book."
"No problem." The boy grinned lopsidedly and dropped his book on her desk
with a THUD!! Dana jumped.
A white page with a black cylinder laid in front of her.
"A UFO." The boy's eye's withdrew and looked far away, yet still in the
room. Anger and hatred flashed for a nano-second, but quickly returned to a
warm welcoming sight and he smiled at his partner.
"No way." Dana shook her head, "It's a submarine."
"What? Where did you get that from? See here," The boy pointed to a lump on
the cylinder, "Submarines don't have bumps on them."
"Yes they do! At the top, where you get in, there's a rail and stuff." Dana
gave the boy `a look'.
	"How do you know?"
"My Dad's on one all the time." Dana looked at the ink blot again.
"Oh. My dad works for the government." The boy pronounced government with
such hatred and disgust that it shocked her. "By the way, I'm Mulder."
	"Dana." Dana replied automatically.
"Okay class! Listen up!" The blonde woman clapped her hands, and the talking
subdued as teenagers turned their heads toward the front. "Okay, I want to
hear what you saw..." The woman blatantly looked from child to child, causing
trepidation to spread around the room. "Fox."
Mulder looked up from the page, snapping out of his daze, "Oh. I saw a UFO
and she saw a submarine."
Dana bored a hole into her desk with her stare, There was no way she could
look up and see all those people looking at her.
"Okay. Do either of you know why you saw those things?" The woman leaned
against the chalkboard and glanced at the clock. Ambitious for the period to
end as her stomach growled, demanding food.
"My dad is a marine." Dana whispered.
"See class? This is a prime example of how your mind can manipulate things.
How about you Fox?"
This is the first time Dana realized Mulder was being called Fox. *I thought
he said Mulder?!*
"I dunno." Mulder looked down and slumped in his chair. "It just does." He
snapped.
The teacher recognized the behavior and backed off, "Did anyone else see a
UFO or a submarine?" No-one raised there hand.
BRAAANNNGGGG! The bell shook the building, or rather, a herd of teenagers
did.
The class jumped up and shoved books in their bags with a racket of chatter,
over the bell.
Dana slung her bookbag over her shoulder, "I thought your name was Mulder."
When the boy stood up her towered at least two heads taller than her, she
suddenly felt self-conscious.
"It is." The boy threw his book into his red canvas bag and slid his long
arms through both straps.
"But she was calling you `Fox'. Is your name Fox?" Dana headed for the door,
with Mulder (or Fox) behind her.
"Yup." The boy grinned and was engulfed in a flood of teenagers.
Dana stood in the door to the class room puzzled. She felt a tap on her
shoulder, and craned her neck around.
A blonde girl with big blue eye's, clad in a purple and black cheerleaders
outfit smacked her gum, "You like, should, you know, like, stay away from him
and stuff. He's like, spooky and stuff." And then her mob of friends nodded
their brown noses up and down in agreement.
"Totally Lindsey!" Another blonde girl, dressed exactly the same exclaimed
before following the train of groupies into the crowd.
Dana groaned, she hated girls like that. They were a disgrace to the female
image. But maybe they were right.*He IS kinda spooky* she thought before
digging out her map to find the lunch room.

Dana Scully balanced her bookbag on her shoulder and chewed on a strand of
red hair. Scanning the lunch room for an empty table had proven unsuccessful.
Every table was filled. Then she glanced at a table in the way back that
almost disappeared in the shadows. A figure of a tall, lanky boy picked at
his fries as he scribbled in a notebook. Dana considered the comment she had
heard about him, but then decided that there was nowhere else to sit, and
made a bee-line for the mysterious Fox/Mulder boy.
"So, John Doe, can I sit here?" Dana stood opposite the boy and wondered if
that was to strong a confidence for the first day.
Fox/Mulder looked up from his notes and grinned, "Sure."
Dana sat down and sighed when she took of her bookbag, relieving her of at
least 20 pounds from her back. Dana popped open her can of root beer, "So
what IS your name?"
The boy raised one eyebrow at this demanding new girl, "Fox Mulder. Just
call me Mulder."
"That's really weird." Dana wolfed on her tuna sandwich.
"Hungry?" Mulder pulled a bottle of ice tea from his bookbag and set it on
the counter. Then, like a routine, he picked up his chocolate milk carton and
threw it in a nearby wastebasket, hitting it dead center, the bag even made
a whoosh sound, "Two points!"
"Why didn't you just say that ten minutes ago?"
	"You never asked."
"Yes I did!" Dana practically screamed.
	"Details." Mulder cracked.
"So," Dana chewed on a freshly unwrapped granola bar, "Why did you see a
UFO?"
Mulder's face darkened and he slammed his lead pencil on his notebook,
"Look! Do you always talk so much? God, why are you asking me so many
questions?! It's not like your in the freaking FBI!"

Dana Scully shifted her briefcase to her other hand and sighed *This is it*
she thought. *There's no way he'll remember me*
Dana was thinking about the first week of her Sophomore year. Literally, she
had been at one High School for a week before her family up and moved to
Maine, they hadn't even unpacked. But she had met someone there. The only
person that had EVER talked to her the first day of anything in her life. It
tugged at her memory like a two-year old on it's mothers arm. She had never
seen that person again after that first day, yet they remained crystal clear
in her mind. She promised herself that if they didn't remember her, she would
never tell them, they would think she was a nut! It was her vow of silence.
Dana Scully opened the doors and read the gold lettering, "J. Edgar Hoover
Building. Federal Bureau of Investigation."
