Nexlar 1
is a small planet orbiting rather far away from a
Binary star. The planet has basically two
cyclical seasons "Sunfire" when the
brighter star illuminates the planet and
"Nightfire" when the red dwarf star
barley illuminates the planet and it is more like
a twilight or sunset for nearly 10 terran
Months. Nexlars cities are Massive metal
bubbles and tunnels connecting various regions of
the planet. This protects the populous from
the radiation that baths the planet during the
sunfire season and the harsh cold of the
Nightfire season. Nexlar 1 does house
animal life but most consider it too hostile t
venture beyond the bubble cities and into the
wilderness. No natural humanoid life form
lives on this world but several exotic alien
beasts do.
The planet has a unique natural pools of both
liquid hydrogen and another chemical called
"Nyberium" which is being researched
and developed as an alternative starship fuel
source.
Nyberium in its concentrate form requires only
20% of the space that liquid hydrogen requires
and has better predictability than even super
refined fuel in starships. Nyberium based
drives are not built here but would run
approximately ten time the cost of standard
drives and fuel is only available in class
"A" starports for a cost of 2,000
credits a ton. All nyberium is shipped off
world to either Yokosuka, Cardin's rim, or Nexlar
2, and Toshi Station for processing.
