The Sequel (1/1)Title: The Sequel
Author: Georgia
Email: Moonrock66@aol.com
Rating: PG-13
Spoilers: HAD, Requiem
Summary: An alternate take on Requiem.

Author's Notes: This is kind of a joke. I loved Requiem, but I still
can't believe it happened. Makes me wonder how CC's going to
backstep his way out of this one. It's not like they can just pretend
she's not pregnant...
--------------------------------------------

He slid slowly under the warmed sheets, trying to distribute his
weight against the sinking mattress. In the darkness of the
unfamiliar room, he found her peaceful face, undisturbed in the
moonlight beneath him. Sighing gently with relief, he was almost
horizontal, ready to burrow his face into the heat of her back, the
softness of her hair when she stirred.

"Mulder?"

She tried to turn, to sit up.

"Shh..." he soothed her, his hand grazing the hairs of her bare arm,
the skin of his leg burning her knees as it pushed between them. "I
couldn't sleep."

He felt her relax, settle back against him, her head tilting in
invitation.

"Mmmm," he replied, his lips nipping and smacking playfully at
hers. "I like your cure for insomnia."

She smiled under his lips, his tongue pushing into the sweetness of
her mouth, his knee sliding higher between her legs, shivering
against the moan it brought when the warmth of his thigh met the
bare, damp heat of its destination.

Her shoulder pressed back hard against his, wanting to turn, to be
pinned under him, and he let her win the battle, shifting so that her
back hit the mattress, the upper half of his body covering hers. His
lips fell to trace her neck, to lave her earlobe with his tongue.
Gently, his hand forged a path between her breasts coming to rest
lightly on her stomach.

Pulsing with her shallow breathing, his fingers began stroking there,
trying at first to stir the sensations he knew were building within.
Then after a few moments, his touch turned, the passion losing
focus to a circling curiosity, his fingers searching for signs of life.

She felt the change immediately.

"Mulder," she laughed through a sigh. "Don't."

His hand stopped, spread wide, covering her entire belly.

"Sorry, Scully," he raised his head to look at her. "What the hell
was Federman thinking?"

Her fingers brushed through his hair.

"It was just a movie, Mulder."

"Yeah, a movie," he snorted, "where you ended up pregnant and I
got abducted. It's an insult that's what it was."

Scully's entire body shook with a quiet laugh.

"Mulder, last time you couldn't take it because I ended up with
Skinner. Now you're mad about the sequel...even though I'm pretty
sure everybody got that it was your baby?"

Mulder pressed up on his elbow, shaking his head.

"Got it how?" he pouted. "From that on top of the covers cuddling
scene or that touching 'I won't lose you speech'? Shit, I do better
than that, don't I Scully?"

"I kind of liked it."

"Scully," he groaned.

"It was sweet," she argued. "Even without the sex, I felt how much
they..." her voice trailed off before she quietly finished, "how much
they loved each other."

He held still for a moment, eyes fixed firmly on the curtains across
the room, hearing Scully finally breathe again when he bent to place
a lingering kiss on her cheekbone.

"So you're saying you recognized it?" his throat rasped in
uncertainty. "That is was true to character?"

Her eyes finally swept back to his, wide and clear, deeper than he
ever remembered. He could never stop himself from telling her the
million ways she made his life alive, worth living. But she held back,
kissed him gently with love in her eyes. She'd rather show it than
say it. He understood that. Still his heart turned over at her
response.

"Yes."

So close. So close to actually hearing her say the words.

"Me too," he whispered.

Years of love without the sex he added mentally, placing another
slow, kiss on her mouth, inch by inch of their lips joining softly,
eyes never closing, until they finally sealed the promise.

She curled into him then, making herself so small in his hold it felt
like she was trying to crawl inside him. All the while Mulder's lips
brushed whatever skin he could find, shoulders, neck, forehead with
warm, breathy caresses, his hands smoothing her hair like a child's.
He knew what she needed. He'd seen her initial reaction. A moment
of pain and self-pity in the theater, covered as quickly as usual.

She wouldn't talk about it. He knew that too. They lay still
breathing together for a few long moments. Then with a shiver, she
surprised him.

"Wouldn't it be wonderful? If we could?" she whispered, her face
still buried in his chest.

"Yes," he admitted, almost regretting the sadness in his voice. This
was a subject they never discussed. He wasn't sure how to tell her
the truth. "It would be," he finally managed. "But it could never be
better than what we already have."

The way her hand slid up his chest and neck to cup his cheek,
Mulder knew he'd said it right.

"Thank you," he heard her whisper, his lips pressing into her palm.

He assumed that would be the end of it, closed his eyes thankful
she'd revealed that much. He would never have anticipated her next
question.

"What would you want?" she hesitated, "a son...or a daughter?"

He caught the way her voice shook on daughter.

On that Mulder sat up, pulling her with him, his hands sliding
behind her ears to frame her face. "God, Scully. Either would be a
miracle."

A bittersweet smile crept onto her face. A thoughtful smile he'd
almost label joy. She crossed her legs, moving closer to him, their
legs layered together in an intertwined Indian style. He'd thought
sex was intimate, but he'd never felt closer to her than in this
moment.

"A boy would be nice," he admitted. "Someone to throw a ball
with, a chance to carry on the name and get it right. But a girl..." he
trailed off, "she'd look like you."

At his words, Mulder saw Scully close her eyes against tears, her lip
turning up in a fight with her emotions. After a moment, Scully's
usual control won, her mouth spreading out into an ironic, but
accepting smile. Eyes still closed, she pictured it, "Like me, but
with your sense of humor and adventure."

"You'd bring another me into this world, Scully?" he joked.

She opened her eyes completely serious.

"In a heartbeat."

His gaze wouldn't leave hers, the silent dreams, hopes, what ifs
passing between them. But there was nothing left to say. It would
never be. They both knew it. She nodded in acceptance, the
moment between them understood, the pain and the desire finally
shared.

Leaning forward, she gave him a quick good night kiss, and
crawled over him to stretch out on her side of the bed. Taking the
hint, Mulder pulled his pillow back into place and curled up against
her.

In the stillness, she giggled the way something can only be funny in
the middle of the night.

"I guess we'll have to wait for part three to find out what we're
having."

Mulder snorted. "Knowing Federman you'll have Skinner's baby and
turn out to be my sister."

He could hear her smile, his hand stroking lightly against her
stomach.

"I am in love with Assistant Director Skinner."

"Me too," he repeated as sleep finally took him.

end.

Thanks to Marie for telling me when I'm crazy and when I'm not.
