The Chamber Of Night

The corridor appears to change subtly as you walk through it, changing from common stone to that of a strange mottled blue-green rock. The air hangs still about you, as if all time has stood still since you took this path. Ahead, the corridor opens into a large chamber, but once you step into it, you realise why it is called the Chamber of Night. The floor of the chamber is still constructed from the odd-colored rock, but the walls of the room are made from large facets of obsidian, darker than the night itself. The design resembles that of a many sided hedron, although not all the facets are the same size. The room sweeps up to form a dome shaped roof, with a large hole in the absolute center. Instead of where the sky should be, however, lies a black gateway. The gateway almost resembles the night sky, save that streaks of light dart across its empty face from time to time. No torches or lanterns brighten this dark chamber, but light seems to come from somewhere. A large altar lies in under the gaping maw of the heavens, constructed from a single block of unblemished quartz. In contrast to the rest of the room, the quartz is perfectly transparent, a point of light in an otherwise dark room. A strange silver amoebic ball lies within the center of the altar, slowly forming itself into enigmatic designs and shapes. As you watch it, it almost seems to look at you, and you get the impression that whatever it is, it is fully sentient.
