As "Jean Grey," Phoenix usually contained her abilities. Dark Phoenix, however, had no such conflictions, using the following:
Regeneration: At UN rank. Self-Sustenance: CL 1000. Does not need to breathe (though she can and does). She is unaffected by the rigors of space.
Telekinetics: UN rank, line of sight. She can engage in the same power stunts as Jean Grey (Marvel Girl), at the increased, UN power level.
Telepathy: UN rank and range. She can engage in the same power stunts as Jean Grey (Marvel Girl), at the increased, UN power level.
Weather Control: UN rank.
Phoenix Force: When using her power at AM strength or greater, the flaming image of the Phoenix appears around her. This image can be illusory in nature or can burn with cosmic fire of up to AM strength. She is immune to the effects of this cosmic flame.
LIMITATIONS: In "Jean Grey" form, Phoenix is particularly susceptible to psionic and mental attacks. Her Psyche is considered EX for resisting these types of attacks. In addition, "Jean Grey's" control over the Phoenix force is imperfect, and actions which exceed UN rank or involve killing require a Psyche FEAT of AM intensity to avoid being transformed into Dark Phoenix.
TALENTS: Astronavigation, Resist Domination.
The cosmic entity known as the Phoenix Force rescued Marvel Girl from a crashing space shuttle, placing her in suspended animation and taking her place among the X Men as Phoenix. Emotionally unable to handle her power, Phoenix was first corrupted as the Black Queen of the Hellfire Club (with stats similar to those listed above), and finally became Dark Phoenix. "Dark Phoenix" force is totally chaotic and will always act at maximum strength. To do reduced damage, she must make a Red Psyche FEAT. Similarly, for the "Jean Grey" side of the personality to regain control, she must make a Red Psyche FEAT.
During the time she spent as Jean Grey, Phoenix held an inner fight to control herself, but her powers were those of a goddess in the body of a young woman. The detonator was her manipulation by Mastermind while she was spending a holiday in a Greek isle, in the believe of his lover, Scott, being dead.
Mastermind seduced her and freed the force inside her, setting a path which would probably end in the total destruction of the earth, and possibly, the universe. Jean returned to the mansion and learned that the X-men had survived, but she was already doomed : the illusions of Mastermind were making her believe
to be living a century ago, and twisting her soul. Yet, she saved the M'Kraan crystal, and so, reality in a first attack against it (we could see what would have happened if she hadn't in the AOA) , but in a last attack of the Hellfire Club, she turned into her Dark self first, lobotomizing Mastermind and even turning against her partners. With some help from professor Xavier and a lot of luck, she managed to control herself for a while. However, Lilandra had decided to finish the Phoenix menace, and sent a float to capture her and operate the part of her main containing her powers. A final duel between the X-Men and Lilandra's honor guard took place, to determine if Phoenix would be lobotomized or not. As the X-Men lost and Scott got shot, once again, the entity lost her sanity and ...
Dark Phoenix "died" in the moon when Jean's part regained control for a moment during a fight against the Shi'Ar army. Before that, she devoured a star, killing all the people of that system, being pursued by Lilandra as a cosmic danger. The phoenix force, however, can't be destroyed, and went right to her daughter, Rachel Summers, as she touched a shi'ar holographic file that Lilandra gave to Jean's parents (remember? No one knew yet that she wasn't the real Jean) , bringing her tons of problems. (in fact, that power was supposed to go to Feron, a mage kid who would use it to vanquish an evil sorcerer)
Dark Phoenix's memories would merge with the ones of Jean during Inferno, as well of those of her clone Maddy Pryor, filling the blanks in the woman's life.
