Destiny

Name: Irene Adler (DECEASED) Group: Evil Mutant Brotherhood Origin: First appearance: Uncanny #141 Known Relatives: None

Irene Adler, a.k.a. Destiny, was one of the founding members of the second Brotherhood, along with Mystique, the Blob, Pyro, and Avalanche.

She was born a mutant, and her power allows her to see the future. However, she can't always tell if the time-line she's following is the real one or an alternate time-line. Still, she is often right. She had proven unable to see anything sometimes as well, such as during the confrontation against the Adversary in Dallas, for there were so many possibilities that her powers were as blind as her eyes.

Irene was known to be Mystique's best friend since the two were young. However, she grew old and Raven kept her youth due to her morphing powers. Their friendship kept intact despite their evident differences in age. Both adopted Rogue when she was a girl and raised her as a daughter.

Destiny was able to see her own death at hands of Legion, possessed by the Shadow King, but neither tried to avoid it, nor told anything to her friend, except a strange wish about Mystique throwing her ashes one particular day, at one particular hour in a sea voyage after her death. Mystique, who didn't understand anything at the moment and was pretty worried about other things, didn't think much about it until Destiny died in Muir island, precisely as her vision showed her. Raven, unable to face her friend's death, began to lose her sanity slowly, and promised to kill Legion for what he had done. Although she kept her promise, she remained depressed. As she threw away the ashes, thinking of Irene's words about her being too serious, the wind turned them back and she got covered with them, and Mystique found herself heartily laughing with the thought of her best friend's late joke. In the AOA world...

Destiny is a mutant whose abilities allow her to see into both the near future and alternate dimensions. Although in retirement in the paradise that is Avalon, she agrees to Nightcrawler's request to return to America in order to determine whether Bishop's claims are valid. Upon her word that Bishop is telling the truth, the X-Men fight against hopeless odds to insure that Bishop is given the chance to right what once went wrong.
