Xavier is a man of independent means. He owns a mansion, and I mean a LARGE home, in Salem Center, Westchester County, New York. Its address is 1407 Graymalkin Lane; which is ironic for two reasons. The name Graymalkin is the name of Cable?s futuristic ship that launches him back into this 616 reality from his future present. Also, on a more personal note, it really does not matter what his address is; Xavier?s estate is so grandiose that I have yet to see any neighbors. That must be one long Lane.
Anyway. This home has been in Xavier?s family for quite some time, having been built by Dutch ancestors of his around 1698using stones plucked from nearby Breakstone Lake. The lake, also known as Neversink Reservoir, constitutes the border of Xavier?s estate, the long Lane being the other. This house has been rebuilt a number of times, not to mention the few times it has been demolished by foes of the X-Men alone. The latest destruction allowed for the rebuild to include Shi?ar technology. This includes the wonderful addition of robots that constantly upkeep the house. I wish that were possible today. He has all the trappings of a wealthy man, the Olympic size pool, stables, a boathouse with a private dock, and elaborate gardens. Xavier has employed the latest security techniques to keep prying people off his property. By the docks there is a sensor-web patrol area to prevent intruders from entering the estate from the water.
Most classes are in Xavier?s huge library located on the second floor of the north wing. The kitchens are also located on the second floor, a favorite for teens of any age. An automated reception area is also on this floor. Xavier?s office and day room are beside the library, and men?s dorms are above on the third floor. At the first floor level is the computer system?s main memory and power backup.
In the south wing we find more dorms on the third floor. These weren?t stated as women?s dorms, but I am assuming that this is so. On the second floor is the formal dining room and parlor for informal discussions. First floor holds the ready room and furniture and wine storage.
The center, or main, wing has Xavier?s personal quarters on the top floor, with a special elevator for his needs. The other two floors have a formal living room and laundry room, as well as a freight elevator and workshop. The look is complete with a breathtaking front entrance.
Under the ground is where all his money is put to better use. The front gate has voice recognition and visual confirmation capabilities. There are also unique Stark International anti-acceleration field generators to prevent the front gate from being opened by force. This has come in handy a few times, and has paid for itself hand over fist.
Xavier has underground hangars and runways for the Blackbird jets. The runway is about a mile away from the mansion and is about 300 yards long; useful, even though the Blackbird jets are capable of vertical liftoffs. The mouth of the runway had tractor beams to enable save entering when the plane returns, as well as ward off unwanted aircraft visitors. There is a freight elevator and transport tunnel for weighty things, and a high-speed monorail that allows passengers of the jets to reach the craft in 20 seconds. There is a communications tower that provides monitoring and equipment logs. It is proofed against explosions and quakes. It also has motion detectors above ground to prevent tampering.
Cerebro, Xavier?s hub for finding any mutant on earth, is located on the second floor of the mansion. Well, the main terminal is located there. The database is way too large to store on one floor.
All in all, this is a very impressive compound for the X-Men to train and heal; and a wonderfully protective place for the students above ground to learn in complete safety from Friends of Humanity and other mutant haters.
