Theresa Cassidy (Siryn, wife)

Since the dawn of the Uncanny X-mush, a lot has happened to our dear Mr. Madrox. X-Factor's funding was cut by the government, and the team was disbanded. Professor X had been killed, and it seemed that everything was going to Hades in a handbasket. Well, being the type to mooch in times of stress, Jamie hoofed on over to the mansion to crash until he could line up a job with the Rockettes.

Well, much to his surprise, but who was waiting at the door to welcome him in than Theresa Cassidy, X-Force's Siryn. You see, while Jamie and Theresa had more or less grown up together on Muir Isle, and had become good friends, they became a little more than that back in the Fallen Angels mini-series. But what Theresa didn't know was that it wasn't really Jamie at all who she fell in love with, but a renegade dupe who had managed to gain control. Jamie had managed to quell this dupes insurgencies at a later date, but hadn't quite got around to telling Theresa that their entire relationship was little more than non-existent. Hey, for all he knew he'd never see her again and wouldn't have to worry about it, right? Well, he was wrong, and worry about it he did.

The next few weeks were pretty tense between Theresa and Jamie. See, she didn't believe that he didn't love her - thought that there should be those feelings down in him somewhere - and he kept feeling guilty that he had to tell her that the person she loved didn't exist anymore. What made it worse, was that in Jamie's eyes, for that love to resurface would mean that the evil dupe was resurfacing, and that was a problem that he didn't want to have to deal with again. Yet, that love /was/ resurfacing. Because even though that one dupe may have been a little independent, and may have been a little on the wrong side of things, he still was Jamie. And as the saying goes, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. So, after talking it over with a few dupes, Jamie decided to give a relationship with Theresa a try. She was more than happy to have him with her again, even though it wasn't the same him that was with her before. Yet, they were happy together.

Jamie soon got a letter from his aunt in Kansas, who had taken over his parent's farm when he left for NYC, and later Muir. It seemed that his uncle was in ill health, and the farm was in poor shape. They needed Jamie to return to the farm, to help out, fix things up, and eventually sell the farm. There was nothing to do but say sad good-byes, and take the next plane to Topeka. And so, Jamie stayed in Kansas for the next three months.

When he returned, things had changed. They had removed him from the security locks on the Mansion, and Theresa was back with X-Force. Fortunately, he had received a letter from Alex informing him that X-Factor had been reformed, and he had a space in it. He arrived on the doorsteps of the new townhouse, and was welcomed in by Rahne. It seemed like old times. Unfortunately, he couldn't seem to track down Theresa - no one ever seemed to be at the Mansion, and the only leads he had as to her whereabouts was that she had went back to X-Force. Well, before long she showed up on his doorstep, and he could tell right away that some things had happened. Sure, she hemmed and hawed, and never really told him the truth, but within a week, it was "Jamie, I think we should see less of each other..." Well, after all the soul searching he had to do, he wanted to make the relationship work, but it turned out that it just wasn't meant to be.

So, he moved out to Long Island at the new X-Factor house (well, they kinda had to move after Sinister and his gang destroyed the old one). They put some of his paintings up on the wall, and some of his recipes in the kitchen. He busied himself helping to restore Central Park (Every other week it seemed) and jaunting across the world with X-Factor on jobs ranging from international threat intervention to elementary school lectures and assemblies. Things couldn't get easier. But they did turn worse...

In the great tradition of things going wrong on a colossal scale, the demon insurgence known as Inferno came back to plaque New York City once again, and X-Factor was caught in its wake. Rachel turned the rest of X-Factor into mutant-hunting hounds, a role which Jamie slipped into easily. Decked out in dark blue leather and spikes, his dupes scoured the city for hapless victims, bringing them back to Rachel for conversion to the cause. As the demonic energies grew, so did Jamie's bestial nature, and there was almost no hint of his former, fun-loving self. When Inferno ended, he was still able to remember all that he had done, and fell into a deep depression of guilt and remorse. Certain acts he had performed caused him to question himself, and he withdrew completely into himself.

As Jamie wallowed in angst, his 'evil dupe' from his early days at X-Factor began to grow again from within. He continued to plant seeds of doubt and guilt within Jamie's mind, until finally he was able to wrest control from Jamie, supplanting himself as the main persona. At this point, Jamie himself was almost glad to have the burden of responsibility lifted from his shoulders. The new Jamie immediately sought out his old friends, the Nasty Boys, and approached them seek membership again. Predictably, they were not entirely trustful, but Mr. Sinister performed a mind-probe and set up some additional mental blocks to ensure Madrox's veracity. He once again would work for the side of evil, against Xavier's dream. Sinister gave him orders to return to X-Factor, as a spy and 'ace in the hole.' There, Madrox waited until an altercation between X-Factor and the Nasty Boys in Central Park, where he turned on his team-mates, showing his true, evil colors. X-Factor fell, and Madrox returned with the Nasty Boys to their base.

Well, Jamie hung out at the Nastys for awhile, doing a couple hits here, a couple hits there. Deep down, of course, he was appalled at what his evil self was doing, but since he'd let that side of him run free for so long, it took him some time to undermine the dupe and secure his rightful place. On one trek of the Nasty Boys to attack a med center, Jamie managed to free himself when his evil counterpart duped. Trying to play it safe, he acted as a rear scout, and slipped away when the Nastys went inside the building. He was, however, followed by Arclight, and his evil self was accosted and put down by his no-longer teammates. By the time Arclight revealed herself, Jamie was nearly home, and was saved by the presence of Val in a Guardsman Armor suit.

So the rest of the team wasn't too upset at him. Lorna was off having a similar attack of the evil half, it seemed, and Alex was merely brooding about the whole affair. Val seemed pleased to have Jamie back, and even put him back on the payroll after he asked. So, he tidied up his room again, took a few days off, and decided to go buy some new clothes and toys. Besides, Excalibur had dropped by, and he needed to get out of the house. So, down to Fifth avenue he went. And there he found Theresa.

Jamie hadn't seen Theresa since that fateful talk they'd had a number of months ago - she'd went back to Muir for awhile, to do some thinking she said. So it was a complete surprise for Jamie to see the red-haired lass out of nowhere in New York's shopping district. It was actually her who noticed him first, calling out his name in the crowd. She smiled happily, she hugged him. She told him how happy she was to see him, how much she'd missed him. How happy she was that they could be together again. Jamie was confused. Didn't they break up? Didn't she say that she needed someone more...what was it, mature? He asked, they talked. And she said that she had done some thinking, that she was hurt and afraid those months ago, had said a great many things she didn't mean. And that she still loved him. "I... I guess I just didn't think we'd get a second chance," Jamie had remarked happily. Theresa smiled and replied, "Isn't that what life's about?" Well, not long afterwards (in fact, the next day, following a dinner date with Theresa), Jamie learned firsthand how gravity works. It seemed that Kurt Wagner, a.k.a. Nightcrawler, was possessed by the evil villainess Malice. And while Jamie was with the rest of X-Factor, attempting to subdue the misguided elf, the blue mutant teleported Jamie 300 feet into the air, and teleported away, leaving Madrox to fall to his doom. Quicksilver rushed by, caught Jamie before he became a Multiple Pancake, but our hero still suffered a number of painful wounds. He was brought to Liberty Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for a mild concussion, four broken ribs, and multiple fractures in his left arm.

Jamie had fun in the hospital, got plenty of visitors, and managed to fill his cast up with signatures without using his duplicates. He had to keep his cast on for a few weeks after he was released, and so was relegated to doing all the press conferences while the rest of team battled evil (what a terrible fate), and when he finally did get his cast off, was even a bit reluctant to get back into the fray. Well, it can't be bon-bons and TV forever. Val had been doing some more hiring, and the team roster was filling out again. It was looking like life at X-Factor was going to return to normal.

Unfortunately, someone at the UN had the bright idea out of nowhere to realign the Earth's magnetic field to 'disable' the threat of Magneto. Well, all this really did was piss him off, and his Acolytes began to kidnap UN officials, and being the governmentally-affiliated team that they were, X-Factor became involved immediately. They were kind of torn between the other X-groups (still branded as vigilantes), who wanted to attack Magneto's space station, and the UN and US Government, who had their own political agendas and were not ready for such action. But when Val was kidnapped, things became a bit more personal. The next day, all X-affiliates everywhere were invited to the X-Factor communications room to has out the details of the assault. Jamie, of course, was not to be assigned to one of the strike teams, which normally would not have upset him too terribly. Yet, Pietro had gone missing, and there was a running theory that he had join the Acolytes and sided with his father. If that was the case, Jamie wasn't sure there was really anyone else close enough to the speedster to persuade him from the evil path he had chosen. Though it was not to be. The assault teams left, without him, and returned with only the kidnapped UN officials.

As if Magneto and the UN going at it wasn't bad enough, somewhere along the line, the Sentinels got pulled onto active duty again. In some bizarre program called 'project Unification,' the streets of major cities across the nation sound found themselves stood upon by the giant robot mutant hunters, and X-teams everywhere became a little less safe. Many mutants were captured, and returned the next day with no powers. Other, more powerful, mutants were not even returned. Another meeting was called, and more strike teams were formed. The captured mutants were found and freed, but they too lacked their powers. And finding the main base of the Sentinels or a means to reverse the power loss seemed slim.

Jamie and his teammate Sebastian Kail had taken up refuge at no other place than, Refuge X, a set-up in downtown New York which was living up to its name during the sentinel crisis. There he met one Cyrus Muglauch, a former criminal who was working to clean his act and clear his name, and also renewed an acquaintance with the former MLF villainess, Strobe. It seemed that Strobe was also working to fight on the right side of the law, yet Jamie remained dubious. Even though Cyrus, whom Jamie was beginning to trust and call a friend, vouched for her, the concept that she now believed in Xavier's dream seemed a bit much. Events would happen to change that opinion, though. Jamie met up with the evil murderer Fabian Cortez, and in trying to apprehend him had his powers amplified to such a degree he passed out from the physical stress. Upon regaining consciousness, he staggered back to Refuge X, and told those there of his encounter. What he had not know was that Fabian was one of those who had been robbed of their powers. And now he had them back.

Not that Jamie cared much at this point - his head felt like a pregnant elephant had sat on it, and his muscles were reacting like frozen molasses. But it was Strobe - the once callous and evil villain - who noted that even in this time of what Jamie viewed as a great failure, he had accomplished much. He had brought news that the power loss could be reversed. He had brought everyone hope.

Not long afterwards, the sentinel base was found, and destroyed. Technology was found to reverse the power losses. The Magneto protocols were repealed. And in the aftermath of all this, a new X-Factor was born. It was the final product of a process that had been ongoing, one that had really started since the move to Long Island. First had come Alex's father, Corsair, who joined after Alex had left to replace him as team leader. Then was added Sebastian Kail, whose power of being a virtual physical constant rendered him impervious to nearly all attacks. Polaris left during the Magneto Protocols, but was replaced afterwards by one Cyrus Muglauch, who controlled the strange energy matter Darkforce, and the one-time criminal Strobe. Pietro returned from the Acolytes, and following the break-up of the England based team Excalibur, the young mageling Feron also came to stay at X-Factor's base. There were few holdovers from the original roster (only Jamie and Pietro, really... Rahne had long ago returned to Muir and Guido was busy with his impending marriage to rock star Lila Cheney), but the team was nonetheless ready to face any challenges it met.

In this time of relative peace, Jamie was approached by some guys in suits from the Memorex Corporation. It seemed that in one of their advertising brainstorms, they decided that Jamie, the Multiple Man, would do wonders for sales if he represented their products. He agreed, figuring that some publicity would do X-Factor good, and that he could contribute his earnings to charity. The filming went great, and critics were amazed at the commercials themselves. However, the Friends of Humanity were not. They called for a boycott, urging citizens across the nation not to support Memorex because of their mutant spokesperson. It hit Jamie as a blow. But then happened something even worse - attacks on shops that had pulled Memorex from their shelves, made in Jamie's name. Slogans like 'This is what you get for boycotting Memorex' and 'Madrox for President' were burned into the walls, and much of the stores were reduced to rubble.

In the midst of this, a great tragedy struck X-Factor. They were called to a situation in Central Park, but were instead ambushed by agents of the Shi'ar Empire, who were out to assassinate X-Factor's field leader, Chris Summers, a.k.a. Corsair. Though all of X-Factor fought valiantly, the Shi'ar succeeded. Corsair's long time teammate Ch'od showed up a second too late to warn Chris of the attack, a fatal blow having already been dealt as the large Saurid picked him up, readying him to teleport back to the rest of the Starjammers. Before they left, Chris uttered his last words on the X-Factor comlink. He gave Jamie command of X-Factor. Jamie was stunned. The Shi'ar had fled upon completing their mission, the police were just beginning to arrive. He told Kail to talk with the police, he needed time to think, to acknowledge what had happened. Chris was dead. And now ... Jamie was the field leader. It all seemed too much. But his night was far from over. Not a block away, he ran into the Blob and Pyro, who were out to destroy another store in the Multiple Man's name. It was almost too much. He attacked them himself, using his own sheer force of numbers to bring them down.

Pyro was fairly easy to dispatch, but Blob was considerably harder. It took a wad of plastic shopping bag jammed down the gargantuan's throat to subdue him, and even then Jamie lost the lives of two dupes due to the behemoth's gravity smash. When the battle was over, over half the store lay in ruins. The next day, Jamie stepped down as Memorex's spokesperson. The FoH lifted the boycott, and no more attacks were made in response to it.

Corsair's death was only the beginning in a trend that would deal many blows to X-Factor. Not long afterwards, in a battle against Stryfe (or at least that's who everyone thought it was at the time), Cyrus Muglauch, also known as ShadowHeart, was fatally wounded. The death hit Strobe the hardest, for she had also been his lover. She approached Jamie, voicing plans of returning to the MLF undercover, to root out Stryfe and make him pay for what he had done. Jamie couldn't condone it. After the bad press that Pietro had garnered with his temporary move to the Acolytes, and Jamie's own bad experience with the FoH, such a move would do irreparable damage to the public view of the team. At if it was known that she was only 'under cover', than any attempt to get at Stryfe would be futile. The next day, she left anyway. Pietro had been sentenced to a 30 day house arrest following his trial for his crimes while with the Acolytes, so now the forces of X-Factor were essentially reduced to Jamie, Kail and Feron. And soon, it was to get even smaller.

The FoH was holding a rally in Central Park, stirring up unrest and voices against the mutant situation, calling for action against such persons as Strobe, who had helped in a terrorist attack against Rykers, one that freed Blob and Pyro. Against other mutants, ones who were on the run from committing horrible, heinous crimes. Against Jamie Madrox, who as the leader of X-Factor, had seemingly done nothing to stop these people. But the rally came to a quick end. For Jamie appeared, with dupes, and bearing weapons. With axes, knives and machetes, the Jamies killed over a dozen people, maimed more than twenty, and left over a hundred injured. He then fled scene, disappearing back into the city. Of course, it wasn't really Jamie. But no one but him knew that. He had been taking a walk in Adelson State Park, and heard about the massacre from Feron, who saw it on the news. He came home, and saw it himself, going pale. For Jamie knew immediately it could be only one person - his renegade duplicate. The X-Men called as the report was being broadcast, and Jamie knew that his freedom was in danger. He fled, wrapping his trenchcoat around him and quickly discarding his comlink. He called his friend Ryan Taylor, a private investigator, and told him that he had been framed. He stayed at Ryan's for the next week, trying to figure out just what had happened.

What Jamie didn't know, is that it actually wasn't his evil dupe who had performed the massacre. The framing was actually done by the arch-villain Apocalypse, along with a series of other similar set-ups. Yet, Jamie felt that his renegade dupe could have been the only one responsible. And in a not-too-uncommon self-fulfilling prophecy, his renegade dupe was again able to gain purchase in Jamie's psyche, and free himself. The dupe fled in the night, leaving Jamie unawares, and sought refuge at the X-Mansion, posing as Jamie himself. Before long, though, Jamie ran into the renegade, and a fight quickly ensued. Each claimed to be the 'real' Jamie, but Jamie himself would have no more of duplicates trying to take his place. The epic battle finally ended as Jamie, the real one, inserted his fist into his renegade's mouth, creating a duplicate with his fist as the point of origin. The renegade dupe was reduced to splattered gore, and Jamie was free of his dark side at last. Along with police investigations and work done by Ryan that showed the use of teleporters at the crime scene, Jamie was declared innocent and all charges were dropped. He was able to return to his home at X-Factor, and hopefully lead a normal life again.

Things truly were going well for Jamie. In the last few days before he battled his renegade dupe, he and Theresa had again renewed their relationship, Theresa being one of the few people he was able to turn to in his time of need. She comforted him, soothed his fears, and their love for each other grew stronger in his time of trouble. When the crisis was over, the love remained. Theresa even talked of marriage, and a family. But Jamie wasn't sure if he was ready for that... or was he? He couldn't deny that he loved Theresa, and he knew that she loved him too. Neither could imagine starting or raising a family with anyone else. And he wasn't a fugitive anymore, he had a stable job again. But... he was also still the field leader of X-Factor, had enough responsibilities and commitments. And he didn't know if he could really make that decision, to marry someone. A decision that would last him a lifetime. His decision-making process became easier when Chris Summers returned whole and healed by the Shi'ar, resuming command of X-Factor. With that off his shoulders, he again thought about it. Marriage. And finally, he knew that there really had been no question in his mind at all. He wanted Theresa as his wife. The next night, he took her to dinner and asked her, and with tears of happiness in her eyes, she said yes.

Three weeks letter, Jamie and Theresa were wed, at Theresa's ancestral home, Cassidy Keep. The ceremony was held in the Keep's lush and verdant gardens, and was truly a beautiful occasion to behold. Jamie had chose Guido as his best man, with Pietro and Ryan as his groomsmen. The vows were spoken with certainty and love, and , as the saying goes, there wasn't a dry eye in the house. The reception was held in the Keep's Grand Hall, and started out with a touching speech by Guido. The music for the first dance was a special one to the newlywed couple, an instrumental arrangement of the Princess Bride's love theme. And there was even some humor to be found as the first piece of cake was cut, and instead of feeding it to Jamie, Theresa 'accidentally' pushed it onto his nose. After the evening was over, the two made their farewells, and took a plane to their reserved honeymoon suite in London.

Well, fortunately for the newlyweds, the honeymoon went off without a hitch. London was beautiful, and there were just few enough tourists around to make it worth sightseeing. Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey - all were visited by the two, and pictures galore were taken for the photo albums. Theresa bought Jamie some new T-shirts to freshen his waning supply, and the two also picked up a pair of cute and cuddly kittens, who they named Xavier and Lilandra.

Having returned home, now Jamie and Theresa look to their new life together, and also back to the daily work of X-Factor. The team is slowly rebuilding itself, but has a core membership that is steadfast in its loyalty, Val is out searching for additional recruits to bolster that core. Jamie has also recently received an invitation for an interview from a young and aspiring photojournalist who has taken an interest in mutant affairs, and has made plans on taking her up on it. Only time will tell how the interview goes.
