Born in the Mountains of Wundagore to Magda Lehnsherr, only a short time after the death of his sister Anya that he would never see, due to the death of his sister and his father's reaction his parents split up and he would never know the mutant known as Magneto was his father until years later. Pietro was born first, minutes before his twin sister Wanda, with the help of the genetically engineered cow Bova who acted as midwife. After their mother had left Bova took the two babies to small village where they were given the name Maximof, and lived like any of the normal children until puberty when their powers began to manifest, Pietro always known for his speed started showing of his mutant ability and started a spread of rumors among the neighbors, at the same time Wanda started displaying her mutant power to affect probabilities with a gesture and accidentally caused first and all forms of destruction. Being already over protective, Pietro began to protect his sister even more from the people who hunted and persecuted her and began to call her a Scarlet Witch. Later in an escape from angry townspeople Magneto came in at the moment when they were about to be killed. Saving the two of them they then became members of the first Brotherhood of Evil Mutants and Battled the X-men.

Only Joining the Brotherhood out of gratitude after a few battles, and many advances toward his sister from the Mutant named Toad, Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch left. A time later in Captain America's attempt, form a new team of Avengers, he recruited Pietro and his sister.

Pietro has the ability to Move at sub-sonic speed around 175 cruising speed, giving him the ability to run up walls, across water, and create blasts of wind. Quicksilver's speed doesn't just apply to simple movement either. Quicksilver's mental processes, and metabolism work at many times that of a normal human level. Quicksilver has learned to play the piano at near concert level by ear in less than a minute and became an accomplished sculptor in under a day. Quicksilver uses the Avengers Quinjet. He also has Avengers combat training, and X-factor Training utilizing his super human speed. Pietro can press 1000 pounds with arms, and 1 ton with legs.

Pietro Maximoff is the leader of one division of the X-Men. As devoted to the cause of human-mutant harmony as his father Magneto is, Quicksilver is skeptical of Bishop's claim that their world is not supposed to exist. Perhaps Quicksilver's greatest sorrow is the death of the Scarlet Witch, when the X-Men went on their first mission against Apocalypse. While Quicksilver battled the Horsemen of Apocalypse, Nemesis attacked the school at Wundagore. Attempting to protect Rogue from Nemesis, the Scarlet Witch confronted him and was killed in the ensuing battle.
