Warpath is a very strong and talented young individual. His strength level is formidable, at somewhere between 50 and 75 tonnes and growing. He has heightened speed and endurance. His running speed has been clocked at around 100 m.p.h. He has gone toe-to-toe with the Juggernaut and held his own for longer than anyone thought he could.

Warpath's senses are also heightened. His hearing is formidable, enabling him to hear at distances, or whispers in the same room. He also has very powerful eyesight, which allows him to see minute details at a great distance, or make his way around in a very dark room. His sense of smell is keen but undeveloped (he isn't able to pick out specific "familiar scents" like Wolverine does).

During a ritual burial James Proudstar prepared for his brother John, James swore revenge for his death, which he blamed on Professor X and the X-Men (John was an X-Man himself - Thunderbird - who died in an early mission under the command of Cyclops). This quest brought him to join a team of young mutants known as the Hellions. Adopting the name Thunderbird II, James joined them bent on revenge against their enemies the New Mutants. James did fight the X-Men on several occasions but eventually found that Professor X was not the cause of John's death.

Losing his lust for revenge and his reason to fight, James stayed with the Hellions only out of a sense of duty. During this time, Cable approached James, attempting to recruit him to fight his war. James refused and also decided to leave the Hellions and plot his own course. After his meeting with Cable, James traveled to his reservation in Camp Verde, Arizona. There he found his entire reservation slaughtered. On the ground lay a Hellfire Club mask. James swore revenge on Emma Frost and the Hellfire Club. James joined Cable and X-Force, with the understanding that they would him help him also.

During his stay with X-Force, James has been very attracted to Theresa (Siryn), though his attentions have not, so far, been returned. In a recent confrontation with the White Queen, Emma Frost, James has learned that the Hellfire Club was not responsible for the reservation's death, but then who did? Warpath has also been missing from X-Force, in the company of a new character, Risqué, who has been returning the attentions that Siryn never has.
