     Just wanted to send along my congratulations on your 1st Year Anniversary, and to say what a great publication you put out. I drink in every word, and it has and continues to enlighten myself and my slave.

     Please keep up the great work and pass on my thanks to the rest of your staff.......May this year be as equally enlightening and fulfilling for all!

Internet Rate Increase

Take a moment and do two things:

1)  forward the email address to everyone you can think of

2)  send a ,message however brief to the fcc saying you think per minute charges for net access is a bad idea.

Local phone companies have banded together to impose per minute charges on our use of the Internet. The tactic has gotten very little press attention. It is a corporate maneuver designed to be put into action first and then have years of litigation to undo it. The following memo comes from a friend who is quite current on telecommunications policy and law.

I don't usually inflict my friends with every cause and crusade which interests me, but this one I believe is critical to all of us:

Subject: Internet, FCC:

I am writing you this to inform you of a very important matter currently under review by the FCC. Your local telephone company has filed a proposal with the FCC to impose per minute charges for your internet service. They contend that your usage has or will hinder the operation of the telephone network. It is believed that internet usage will diminish if users were required to pay additional per minute charges.

The FCC has created an email box for your comments, responses must be received by February 13, 1998. It is important that you send your comments: to isp@fcc.gov

Tell them what you think. Every phone company is in on this one, and they are trying to sneak it in just under the wire for litigation. Let everyone you know hear this one.
