Bathroom spirit

The very first house I can remember living in always brought bad memories for me. We moved in when I was about three. It was a nice house, but it was old and really small. Nothing weird happened until I was probably six and my older cousin would come over and baby-sit when my parents went out.

She was the first person who ever showed me a ouija board. At the time she was twelve and I thought she was crazy. But I did what she showed me and we attempted to contact a spirit or whatever we were looking for. I put my hands on it and it started to move, but I obviously thought she was just joking and was moving it herself. It really wasn't spelling anything significant anyways, except for the word BATHROOM over and over again.

I figured she was just trying to make me afraid to go into the bathroom. She told me you were supposed to wait until it said good-bye, but I got bored and just left it there. I didn't think it would affect anything until strange things did start to happen in the bathroom.

It was never really anything major, just simple things - like objects falling off shelves when you knew there was no way they could have fallen off. The water would turn on and off by itself, but everybody just assumed there was a problem with the plumbing. I told my cousin about the strange things happening in there and she wouldn't believe me.

That was until one night she spent the night and we were in the bathroom brushing our teeth. Just out of habit, we completely shut the door and locked it behind us. We were at the sink and the door unlocked by itself and flew open, slamming into the wall behind it. We knew there was nobody else at home and there were no keys to the door, so there was no explanation for it. Even she was scared this time, so we ran to my bedroom and hid under the covers until my parents got home.

I think it would still probably scare me if it happened recently. Another incident happened when my parents were sleeping in their bed one night. My dad has this gun that his grandfather gave him when he was a little boy. He always keeps it locked up in this cabinet and nobody touches it or uses it. Everybody was awakened by a gunshot. I remember hearing it too, at that time I was about eight and didn't forget it. My parents called the police, thinking somebody was in the house.

They got to our house and checked everything. The gun was lying on the floor underneath the window and the glass to the window was shattered everywhere. There were no signs of anybody coming into the house and nobody could figure out how the gun had even been taken out of the cabinet when everybody was asleep. My parents just had the window replaced and didn't think too much about it, but I always thought, even at that age, that it had to have been something supernatural. There wasn't any other explanation for what had happened.

About a year after that we moved from the house and nothing out of the ordinary has ever happened since. Maybe the house was haunted, I don't know and don't really care to find out. I'm just glad we have peace now.
