On my birthday (October 25) about 5 years ago, I had a small gathering of friends at a rented building. There was 5 of us, we were getting a little bored and I had brought my Ouija board along, so we decided to give it a whirl. None of us really believed anything would happen. I know I didn't; although I've always had a real interest in the paranormal, I still managed to be quite the sceptic. I was also an athiest. Anyways... One of my friends had a video recorder, and during the seance we propped it up and checked it three times to make sure it was recording, and that it was aimed at the table we were working on. The camcorder was the kind with a large screen to show what was being recorded, so you didn't have to put your eye right up to it. So we began, but we didn't have any success for about 10 minutes, mainly because we were all kinda giggling and feeling like idiots for doing it in the first place. Once we calmed down though, things began to happen. The candles began to flicker (when previously they hadn't) and the pointer started to move. Nothing it said was of much interest, and no one wrote it down. It was mostly foolish gibbering and none of it made much sense. However, when I wasn't touching the pointer, the spirit correctly named my mother's maiden name. Suddenly the pointer flew off the table. What was said beforehand, and what made the spirit upset I don't remember. To this day I'm not quite sure if that was a truly bad sign or not, but before everyone left I made them all sit down and we said "we're sorry" to the spirit. Apparently that calmed the spirit down, because I haven't been haunted, nor have my friends. The odd thing is, when we went to watch the tape, the entire conversation with the spirit was full of interference. The sound worked, and directly after the pointer flew off the table, the video came back. So we could see us goofing off, then right when we started talking with the spirit, the interference began. It was really spooky. The only other time that I used the Ouija after that was with my "aunt". She had lived in a house during college, and her roommates were apparently avid satanists, or something. She never really delved into it -- we all knew not to ask her about it. One time, however, I convinced her to use the Ouija with me -- all I can remember is feeling very cold (in the middle of summer). We talked to something for a short time, and my aunt said very suddenly "we're done" and said goodbye. She never really told me what influenced her to finish up so quickly -- all I know is that something made her want to leave immediately. The point of all this is that it changed me dramatically. Now I truly believe in the paranormal, and I'm no longer an athiest. I can't explain what happened those nights; as much as I'd like to, I don't understand it myself. My advice to all the skeptics reading this - try it yourself; but take it seriously. It's very dangerous, and as ridiculous as some of the stories sound (demon flows from pointer into woman and possesses her, for example) you must take them seriously -- next time it could be you with the horror story ... skeptika's note: BM's warning is apt. At least protect yourself from the worst. It is better to be safe than possessed! It is interesting to note that the group had no success until they started taking the séance seriously. |
