I used to play poker with 3 (reliable) friends on Saturday nights in about 1990, each Saturday at someone else's house. We would play with a maximum of a few cents. We didn't drink alcohol during our poker nights. We got a bit bored with poker and one of my friends came up with the idea to do a seance. His younger sister had told him about it who did some seances. We agreed to try it. We did our seances on different locations, at times we used letters from the famous word game, Scrabble, but we have also used paper letters. We always started with moving the glass in 7 circles within the letters and numbers which were placed in a circle on the table. We had also put a Yes and No in the circle. After the 7 circles we would always ask; "Are you a good spirit ?". We continued if the answer was "Yes". One of us would wash the glass if we got a "No" and after that we would start again. We tried to be polite as possible. We got a lot of information of the "spirits"; their name, where they lived, when they died etc. We got a bit curious about their psychic abilities and we also wanted to know whether it was "real". We wanted "proof" that the answers did not come from us, consciously or unconsciously. We did a lot of experimenting, they weren't real scientific experiments of course but still interesting. We've put soap on top of the glass, so none of us could intentionally move the glass. It did not make any difference, the glass still moved. One of us thought of a number and the "spirit" had to "guess" the answer, no interesting results found. Maybe a few lucky guesses. We would throw a dice under a non-transparent cup, none of us knew the value of the dice. The "spirit" had to "guess" the value, no interesting results. Maybe a few lucky guesses. We asked the "spirit" for proof, like turning the light off or moving an object inside the room. No results. We also examined how many persons were needed to make the glass move. 3 persons still worked, the movement of the glass became less with 2 persons. I can't remember if we tried it with a single person. On one of our poker nights something interesting happened. During our Poker game we agreed to go on vacation next year (1991), but we still had to make the reservations, get some money together and ask permission from our parents. We did a seance again after a few hours of poker and suddenly I came up with a real clever question about the future. I asked "Will we go on vacation this year ?". The year at the time was 1990 but we would go in 1991. My friends didn't think of this, the glass went in the direction of "No" and my three friends were disappointed because we all were looking forward to our vacation. I said "that's correct, we're not going *this* year, we are going *next* year". This convinced me of the fact that they were not moving the glass (at least intentionally - sk). Another remarkable thing happened. One of my friends asked something about his death, not a wise thing to do I thought. He asked something like "Will I make it to the age of 25 ?", to which the answer was "No". He didn't really believe it. This year (1997) he reminded me of that, I had not thought about it anymore. He is 25 now, I congratulated him and we talked a bit humorously about it. But yesterday, the day before I typed this I had a very scary thought, I don't know what to think of it. I don't *believe* anything. Last year, in 1996 another one of the 3 friends died at the age of 22. The autopsy indicated that he didn't die of any disease or drug, his heart had just stopped beating for no apparent reason. I found out after his death that he suffered from extreme feelings of insecurity, I don't know if that has anything to do with stress which is bad for your heart. But my thought about it was: did the spirit make a mistake ? Did he give an answer to the question that was about the wrong person ? They were both participating in the seance. You decide for yourself, I can't say anything about it. skeptika's note: Although the timing of BS' friend's death could be merely co-incidence, this story amplifies a warning that I will give anyone - dont ask questions of the future. Even if the spirit has nothing to do with what eventuates, do you really want to know when you are going to die? And what if what you are told is wrong? Do you want to waste your life, forever watching out for Volvos, because the spirit tells you that you will die horribly when a man in a hat loses control of his new Volvo and drives over you, when your real fate might be to die peacefully at home surrounded by grandchildren at the grand old age of 98? |
