Sample text to your Congressman or Local Representative. (You may wish to forward an example of offending spam and put this text into the body of the email.) Use the first version if you are American and the second if you are not.Version One "Sir/Madam, I wish to voice my objection to the practice of sending unsolicted commercial email (UCE), which is widely known as "spam". While I understand and support an individual's right to free speech, I strongly object to the abuse of this right by unscrupulous people who fill my inbox with spam on a daily basis. Spam is more than an annoyance. Many people, like myself, pay for the connection time which is used to download their messages so, in effect, spam is theft. It is a small theft, but a theft all the same. In addition, most spam messages advertise questionable or offensive material: pornography, multi-level marketing, highly suspect gambling web-sites, password theft web-sites, credit card and other scams and, ironically, the services of spammers. Spam is an increasing problem and one which should be addressed seriously by Congress. It is a problem which should not be tolerated and, as a member of your constituency, I request that you support the drafting and passing of legislation created for the purposes of severely curtailing the activities of spammers and expanding the capabilities of the FBI, FTC, FCC and other agencies as appropriate to aggressively track down and prosecute spammers.
