Treasure Hunting with Spirit

Okay, here goes. For a long time, my father and I have been interested in treasure-hunting. We have gone the usual route of metal detectors and things like dowsing and such. Back in 1987, I went through a divorce and started hanging around with two of my sisters again.

They were into automatic writing and always claimed to be "talking" to Elvis. I was a super skeptic, but "Hey, have an open mind!" they said. I couldn't get a desirable result with their methods, so we decided to try a Ouija board.

Great move! We immediately became "proficient" and talked to many "spirits". We always asked that they come in the name of God and would accept contact with no-one who didn't. Naturally, I was interested in the treasure hunting aspect, because I had always been told whoever buried something they valued would usually hang around it after they died, just to guard it or something.

We talked at length to our "spirit guide" about this and he informed us there was much treasure buried all around, but whoever it belonged to would have to release it, so he couldn't just 'give' us anyone's buried belongings. This one Sunday afternoon, we were playing around with the board after lunch and the topic turned to digging.

It just so happened my sister and brother-in-law had a couple over to visit them. These people had never been exposed to anything like this, so were really joking around and saying we were making it all up. About this time, my dad dropped by (and chewed us out, cause he don't believe in this stuff!) and sat in. In a little while, my brother and his wife stopped over, too. Then, one of my older sisters came by. We had a house full! Counting myself and my girlfriend, there were nine of us there.

Skepticism was running pretty rampant by then, so as proof, our "spirit guide" gave us a field trip. He left for a little while and when he came back, he gave us directions to some "buried treasure". Picture all nine of us piling into a car and the back of my pick-up! We followed the directions we had written down and drove about four or so miles out into the country.

By the way, the background he gave us was: the treasure would be a jar of coins that a little boy had buried there several years before. The house was gone and so was a railroad track that ran alongside it. The levee was still there, but the tracks were gone.

He said we could have the jar because the kid who had put it there had moved away and would probably never think about it again. He had us agree that even though it wasn't worth much monetarily, it should suffice for our 'proof' of the existence of something (or rather, someone) we couldn't see.

Anyway, we got there and couldn't locate the spot he indicated. So we went back to the house amid even more skepticism and got the board back out. He immediately came on and said we had been in the wrong spot. Since it was getting late, he said just take the board along with us and he would point out the spot. Talk about putting him "on the spot"!!

We went back and believe it or not, my brother-in-law and myself carried the board with one hand underneath for support and the other hand on the planchette. He slid the planchette in the direction to go and when we were close, he said "Here! Here!" and ran the planchette right off the edge of the board and onto the ground.

My dad took his shovel and dug about a foot or so and uncovered a peanut-butter jar with coins in it!! We drove back to the house and opened it to discover 79 cents in pennies, nickels, and dimes. Needless to say, this was proof enough for nine people.

Then the problems began. Most of the group went from non-believers to potential millionaires! They kept saying, this spirit can lead us all to riches beyond our belief! The board suddenly quit working. It took a couple of hours for folks to start leaving and finally it was down to me, my girlfriend, my sister and brother-in-law, and my dad.

Then our guide started talking to us again and explained why he never wanted to show us anything in the first place. It was plain to see that greed was the order of the day and he wouldn't be a party to it. The jar is in my dad's safe to this very day as the only truly "buried treasure" we have ever found.

I know this sounds like way too much BS, but it is true. We don't use the board anymore. Mainly because since then my sister has re-married, and I have too, and we can't seem to make the connections like I did with the other guy. I would love to research some more, but I don't have a suitable partner. My wife has tried, but it just doesn't work for her.

I have many other stories, some of which have physical proof also, but none as concrete as this, especially with so many witnesses. I hope you find this interesting and you could include it on a page if you want to. The weird thing is, I have been on the web for several months and tonight is the only time this has crossed my mind to look up the subject online.

I can't help but think something or someone has caused the memories to flood back. I do appreciate your taking the time to read this and I know how silly it can sound to the unexperienced. Thanks for letting me tell this, as I have always been leery of mentioning it for fear of ridicule.

N.S.' story - Pennies from Stephan is another story about buried treasure.
