Voices and the Disappearance of a Child

Right after I got married, my husband and I moved into a house owned by his mother. I would often be busy in the house and would hear someone say my name clearly. I would respond and turn toward the voice but there wouldn't be anyone there.

I thought someone was playing a prank on me and I even went so far as to get a flashlight and go outside when it happened at night. And it happened several times. I was by myself one Saturday, just cleaning the bathroom and heard my name said very clearly. I said "Yeah, I'm in here."

I was thinking my husband had come home or my neighbor had come over looking for me. I went out to the living room, into the kitchen, went outside and looked around. I even went to my neighbor's house and asked if she had come over.

I thought I was just hearing things like sounds of a house, or the wind blowing. I made up all kinds of excuses to explain it. One night, my best friend came over. I called to her that I was in the kitchen (I was at the sink, washing dishes) and she entered the room.

My back was to her but I heard her scream out. When I turned around, she was pale and leaning against the refrigerator with her hand on her chest. I went to her, being very concerned of course and asked if she was okay.

She asked if I was babysitting and I told her I wasn't and asked why. She looked at the closed door to the bedroom, which was right off the kitchen and said that she had seen saw a child standing there when she came in to the kitchen. I went to the bedroom, opened the door and turned on the light. Nothing.

I went to the rest of the house. Nothing. My friends was sitting at the kitchen table when I came back in, still shaken and swearing to me that she had seen a small child, about three foot tall - a little girl. That was when I confided in her about having heard someone calling my name several times.

This only happened at this house. It has never happened again. I've always wondered if 'someone' was trying to contact me or just wanted someone, anyone, to listen or to help.
