What we don't know or see

Well---this one is a bit long---but here goes ...

My best friend brought over her ouija board and I was not into it. I knew things existed here and there, but I never believed that a 'toy' would produce anything. Boy, was I wrong.

My boyfriend at the time wanted to play with this thing. He almost looked stupid playing with it, I was better than that. When he started talking to it (my sister and her friend were doing it with him) the pointer started to move around. Well, there was I, trying to prove it wrong, asking a question that absolutely no-one at the house at the time knew the answer to.

My sisters uncle (we have different fathers) died of cancer but this ultimately because he had AIDS. I asked what my sister's uncle had died of and it said cancer - I was looking for the answer AIDS - so I said "Wrong answer!" Then it swept over the board, spelling AIDS. I was doubfounded.

Gradually we began talking more and more. My mother would try to talk to people that she knew who had died. I really had no-one to talk to but the spirits (I do not remember who they were at that time) would always include me in all of the conversations. They would listen to me. Then my best friend and I moved to doing it in my bedroom.

Sometimes she and I would be the only ones on the board (it was very fast then) and other times my boyfriend or her boyfriend would get on. Well, finally a regular spirit came. She called herself 'Y'. She took to me for some reason, but could not stand my best friend because 'Y' was in love with my best friend's boyfriend. (Yes, it was explained, because I asked.)

Y controlled the board all the time. We would ask her to get other spirits that we have spoken to and she would. I asked 'Y' to tell me how she died, etc. and she told me the story. She said she was robbed (she was old at this time) and raped and her house burnt down. She was murdered.

She didn't seem to hold a grudge, which was strange. She was neither good nor bad. I kinda figured if she was all "good" then she would not hate my best friend. Well, my best friend's mother and twin brother had died when she was very young. Her mother would talk every now and then but then 'Y' would make her leave. The only time 'Y' would get her is when I told her to, she wanted to hurt my best-friend.

One time we were talking to my friend's mother and we asked her to show us that she was there. (This time we were all in the living room.) We asked her (my friend's mother) where we should look for the sign, she told us "Jezabe11e's room".

So I went to my room to see if there was anything but nothing was there, yes I can be brave sometimes. Well, we just passed it off like it was no big deal. We all just stopped playing that day and when we went back to my room lo and behold, there it was. On my dry erase board it said "Hi Shawna. Love Mom"

The thing that was funny was that the pen to the dry erase board was on the floor and the writing was very messy, as though someone could not control their hand. That pretty much freaked us out, but we were not afraid.

Then while talking to 'Y' we told her to give us a sign. She wouldn't tell us where it would be. When I went to the restroom, there it was in black "Hi I'm 'Y'" (it looked like it was written in black mascara.) Gradually this writing became an every day occurence, it made me start to think about stuff.

It started out very friendly, then it became mean. When it started to become mean I found out my boyfriend was doing some of them, he said he did not do all of them though. Well, that passed after we asked the board to stop and asked who kept continuing it. 'Y' said it was my boyfriend.

One night in particular was bad. My boyfriend is from Chile and he called the meanest, witch demon known to Chile. I do not know who she is or anything. What all I know is that this board was talking to us in Spanish at this time. 'Y' was gone and so were all of the other spirits that we had talked to. My mom (of course) was challenging the board and this suposed 'demon'. I didn't believe it until my mother started to act strange. She fell asleep in a chair sitting straight up. I talked to the board and asked her what was wrong and 'Y' came on and said the 'demon' spirit was in her. I finally woke my mother and she was normal, but my sister (then twelve) rolled over and laid on the floor catatonic.

Between when my mother was 'strange' and my sis was 'strange' 'Y' went away. She then was able to come back on and said when that demon is loose she cannot do anything. She then told us she brought someone with her. It was my best friend's mother and my sister's uncle and grandfather. (They had both died of cancer---but the uncle had AIDS too.)

My sister then jumped up and ran to my mother's bedroom, closed the door, in the dark and started screaming. She said her stomach hurt. I went to get her and dragged her out to the living room, then talked to the ouija board to find out what to do. My friend's mother said to send my sister to my bedroom and that her uncle and grandfather would help. I was confused and jumpy, so I asked if someone else could go, knowing my sister would not go by herself. They said I could.

So we made a train. My sister was at the front, then me ,then everyone else. My bedroom is set up so that you walk in through the door then to go into the bedroom proper, you have to turn right, before you see all of the room. My sister got all the way in the room and I got half-way and we freaked.

I think I was in such shock that I have almost forgotten what I saw. I believe that everything has a logical explanation, so I tried to explain it and I couldn't. I have a window in my bedroom and people park outside of it. I tried to tell myself it was car headlights, the only problem is that the car must have been driving side-ways because the light went vertical not diagonal. I saw one of these things and my sister said she saw it too, she was in the room all the way, I was not. After that the weirdness was over.

Then one day I jumped on the ouija board, I think it was our last time on. As soon as my friend and I got on it spelled DAPHNEY. I asked what that was about and it said "YOU ARE DAPHNEY".

I didn't quite understand so it said YOU WERE DAPHNEY SMITH. So then, I started to quiz it and I asked when she died. It said 1978 (I was born at the end of 1978). Then I asked how did she die and it said she was happy. It said she died so I could be born.

I asked why I had to come back and it said for my best friend. It told me Daphney was 98 when she died and she lived in Pennsylvania somewhere (I forgot the exact city). I never researched this because I really do not want to find anything out. Now, it is four years later and I still feel a presence in my mother's house. When I am there, I feel as though something is watching me.

We never really released 'Y' so sometimes I wonder if she is still around. My cat (he is six months old) freaks out when he is there. He rolls around very strangely on the carpet and soemtimes will chase things that aren't there. Now, the only thing that makes me wonder about this is that when he is at someone else's house he is usually very laid-back, not as 'kitteny'-like.

We also hear knocking noises. I always thought it was someone next door (we live in an apartment) was dropping marbles. (We also live on the bottom floor.) But my mother hears this noise in her room (which used to be my room) at all hours of the night. She knows exactly where it comes from. The floor.

It sounds like someone is banging two rocks together under the floor. The funny thing was that one time I told it to stop and it did. Really if there is anything because we did not say good-bye to 'Y' or any other spirits it does not want to bother us too badly. It is not mean.

I still keep my distance from all of this stuff. I believe but I would rather not know either way.

Oh, one more weird thing. After that thing happened with my sister she complained of stomach pains, ever since that one night. Now, it turn out that she has two uteruses.

Hmm. Makes ya wonder.
