I recently returned to a small town that my
mom grew up in to pay a visit to some family. My cousin and I were bored, so we
decided to drive through the cemetery to pay our respects to our great aunt Mary
Lou, who died in 1999.
As we got into the cemetery, we smelled an
awful stench. We didn't even get out of the car, and thought nothing of it.
Today we went back into town, to the local
pharmacy.
On the way in, I noticed that the car across
from us in the parking lot had the license plate MARY LU 2. I pointed it out as
we walked into the store. Immediately, I told my cousin "this place smells
exactly like Aunt Mary Lou's house" - a sort of musky, old-lady, unforgettably
unique smell.
At that exact same moment, my cousin Stephanie
told me that the song "Hello, Mary Lou" was playing on the radio. We agreed that
all the coincidences were a little strange.
Looking back on it, we remembered how on our way into the cemetery, we were
talking about the idea of loved ones "watching over us" and possibly trying to
communicate with us. I've always been a skeptic myself, but I personally believe
that today's events were an answer to our question. |
