There is a story here in Texas
that I have confirmed through several officers who I used
to work with. In the early 80's, I believe, a chartered
flight crashed on a steep hillside about 5 miles outside
of Hondo,Tx (about 40 miles west of San Antonio). The pilot went to a house there in the countryside and was able to wake up the couple and ask them for help. The couple called 911 and soon the cavalry arrived (several city volunteer EMS/fire fighter groups, Hondo PD and Medina County Sherriff's Dept., as well as a number of concerned citizens). Well, they were able to extract all of the crew and passengers and take them to Community Hospital in Hondo. Tx Department of Public Safety (the state police agency) showed up at the hospital to take a report as they handle all aircraft accidents in the state. The Trooper was getting iformation of everybody involved and their account of what had happened. He finally got to the couple ( I know who they are, but they don't even like to be asked about this night) and questioned them about what had transpired. They explained about the pilot and them calling 911 and then tending to the wounded. The trooper asked them to repeat the story again...they did. The trooper got very angry and started yelling at them to tell him the truth or he would arrest them. The couple was taken aback and said that they were. The trooper then called them bold faced liars and said he wanted to know if they saw or heard the crash. The couple was adamant that the pilot was there. The trooper grabbed the man by the arm and forcefulllypulled him into a room. His wife and several officers followed them into the room fearing for this man's safety. The trooper pulled back the sheet off of the body. Trooper asked "Who is this?" The man replied"Uh...the pilot...but you know that!" Trooper:"yes, I know that but how do you? The doctor said he was killed on impact and that his clothes were torn from his body as he was thrown from the wreckage." Again the couple stated that the pilot had been at their door. The trooper refused to put their statements about the pilot in his report and the couple was allowed to go home. When the couple returned to their house that morning about 9:30 they saw something glittering on the stoop. It was a set of gold pilot's wings. I've also confirmed this story through EMT's, firefighters and nurses who were at the hospital that night. skeptika's comment: The author of this story is an emergency crew worker, one of the people who would be called out to such an accident and does have access to the people he says he has confirmed this story with. In his emails with me he uses his real name and I believe this testifies to his reliability as a witness. |
