I have lived in North Pole, Alaska for more
than 20 years and have visited Circle Hot Springs (a rustic resort located about
150 miles north) twice.
During my second visit, in 1998, I
inadvertently stayed in a cabin that is rumoured to be haunted. I was there with
several other teachers and my son to plan a school field trip. We were actually
all staying in the cabin together. While everyone else was swimming, I was
reading up on the history of the area and happened across a reference to our
cabin as being haunted.
When everyone returned, I gleefully told the
story. We were all laughing and having a grand time, when three loud thumps
literally shook the cabin. The noises came from directly above us, which was the
location of the bedroom that my son and I were to sleep in.
The male teacher of the group ran up the
stairs, and of course, found nothing out of the ordinary. Later, when we told
the story in the lodge, the restaurant hostess laughed and said that we had
angered Mrs. Leach, a former owner of the resort. Apparently Mrs. Leach doesn't
like to have guests scoff at her ghostly presence. The rest of our visit was
without incident, but we left the resort with an uneasy feeling. |
