The spirit is not always friendly

I don't exactly know how to begin.

When I was seventeen, I developed an interest in the occult. I had always been an avid collector and reader of other people's ghost stories, never my own. Sometime that same year I stopped by to visit my grandfather.

He had been going through some boxes in the attic and found some things my sister had left when she moved. He showed me a ouija board and asked me if I wanted it.

That's where it began. Soon a friend and I were sitting at the board ready to play.

Now I would like to clarify that we never actually believed it would work, but it did. Soon we were talking to a variety of spirits, but that didn't last long.

We came in contact with a spirit that calls himself Al and after a while he was the only spirit we could reach. At first the glass moved lightly across the board, but after numerous conversations the pressure seem to increase.

The glass would forcefully drag itself across the board leaving worn spots. About a month after we started talking to Al, strange things began to happen around the house. Dishes flying off the counter, dark human like shadows moving from room to room, useen persons climbing into to bed with you.

Needless to say, our use of the ouija was discontinued. Now, as I sit here writing this, it is eight years later. We have moved on numerous occasions, but Al is still with us.

He has not yet physically hurt anyone, I do not even know if that is possible. Scared us more than once, yes. Other people who visit us have been made aware of his presence.

He is a trickster to some, a fright to others. He seems to be most linked to my best friend, who has been my room-mate for most of the past eight years. He seems to take special delight in tormenting her.

He has followed her to other houses, only returning to me when convenient to him. We don't tell many people about our experiences, fearing they will think we're nuts.

Let me reassure you though, we are quite normal, and lead normal lives. Our interest in the occult is minimal. We are frightened by all the normal things and if anyone has any suggestions on how to rid ourselves of Al, we would be quite interested.

And due to my personal experiences I would caution anyone who uses a ouija. While it is fun to "communicate" with spirits, you never know what you'll get.

skeptika's note:

If you have suggestions, email me and I'll pass them on.
