A Professional Summary:

Only he could open the door to the Night World, and spirit her into its lonely, secret universe. One dizzying kiss and she can see into his soul. She finds that he has always loved her. They're soulmates-but can she follow him into death...and beyond? It's a desperate choice, and Poppy's time is running out...

Diana's Opinion:
I think that this book was an okay opening to Nightworld but definately not the best of all the books...it seemed to be missing something. Probably because the book moved so fast, I felt like their was a lot missing and that it jumped a lot.

Faye's Opinion:

I was immeadiately turned off to NW after reading this book. I felt that LJS would be selling herself short trying to compress ehr characterizations of characters like the ones we grew to love (and hate) in the trilogies. I really felt like this was weak, underdeveloped and fast moving. The characters all seemed rather flat to me. I was glad that this didn't become a trend in the NW.

Vicky's Opinion (Fan Opinion):

Since this is the first of the Night World series I wasn't used to it. I am more used to the trilogy style that L. J. Smith has written in. When I read it, I thought that the book was to compressed. I think that the Poppy-James relationship should have been developed more. Their relationship didn't seem to have the depth of feeling that the characters in the other Smith novels did. Since I read the Secret Vampire I haven't read any of the other Night world books. I thought that they would be of the same quality as this book which I had not really enjoyed.
