19 May (Wednesday) (cont'd)

We came back down from the ski area and took the Strathspey Steam Railway from Aviemore to Boat of Garten.  It's only a 20-minute trip each way, but relaxing and very much worth doing.  It was the first time I'd been on a train.

Aviemore train station (yes, that's my own weak reflection in the second pic)

Our train to Boat of Garten....a decomissioned engine

The other end of the line....me (gack!) in front of our train

Made my first real visit to a grocer here.  I know, that doesn't seem important, but it was to me.  Few of the brands were familiar, but most of the products were.  They've even got Old El Paso products -- no need for this Southwesterner to miss Mexican food here.

We walked down to the Cairngorm Hotel for a drink after dinner -- just in time to hear the piper come out and play.  He played everything from Scotland the Brave to Teddy Bear's Picnic.
