Jahren Mantear

Master of Training & Warder to Colyntha Mashein, the Amyrlin Seat

Born into House Mantear (Man-te-AH) of Almoren as the second child, Jahren was educated as scholar and soldier, courtier and duellist.  After a typical boyhood of hunting, studying, travel and the never ending search for female company, he reached his majority and swore an oath to his House on his fifteenth nameday.  Presented to the Almoren Court young (shortly after his seventeenth birthday), he served as an advisor to the Crown (admittedly in a minor capacity), until unfortunately killing a rival for a ladys affections in a duel.

The result was several years as an officer guarding one of the more active areas of the Blight in the Mountains of Dhoom.  Tempered by the experience, he returned to Court in his mid-twenties older, wiser, and wearing less finery and more scars.  It did not help that the lady originally the cause of the banishment had married and borne three children by this time.

Serving the Crown of Almoren as he knew best, Jahren became a minor diplomat and functionary, and on one memorable occasion prevented a complete whitewash of the Almoren councillor at a trade and revenue treaty negotiated by Colyntha Mashein Aes Sedai.  However, on a trip immediately following the treaty discussions from Alcairrahenallen to Caemlym, travelling with Colyntha Sedai for the sake of convenience, he somehow (he is still unsure to this day) found himself Bonded to her, deciding duty to the Light and Aes Sedai should outweigh duty to mere country and Crown.

His family were suitably impressed by his decision, and he has estates in eastern mountains of Almoren which are rarely if ever visited, kept for him by his elder sister, the heir to the House Mantear name and fortune.

His youngest sister dreams of becoming Aes Sedai one day, but as yet these remain mere girlhood dreams.

He carries a family heirloom, a blade from the Age of Legends, which family lore states has been with the family since the Breaking.

In temperament Jahren is slow to anger and forgiving of error, but if pushed too far will respond with force far beyond expectations.  He is quiet and contemplative, but always watching his surroundings and weighing options for his next move.  Fiercely protective of friends (and, of course, his mistress) he will act ruthlessly if he deems it necessary, but for the most favors the soft words of diplomacy over the strong swordarm.

Typically Almorenese short, and dark haired with fair skin and blue eyes, broad shoulders are his only distinguishing characteristic, otherwise he is unremarkable, save a trademark smirk (which warders he is training have learned means boy, did YOU just stuff up! shortly before ending up unconscious, face down on the training courtyard, or both).
