Mabyllin was a novice for nine years and during that time was quite a disciplinary problem. Growing up on the road with her mother, she had learned independence and self-sufficiency; the regimented life of the Tower disagreed with her nature. However, one day she suddenly began behaving properly and working hard, and was soon raised to Accepted. Three years later she became Aes Sedai. It surprised many Aes Sedai at the time that the girl known to be a troublemaker chose the Gray Ajah. Mabyllin spent her early years as Aes Sedai studying law and history in various capitals of the Ten Nations and learning negotiation and diplomacy from her Ajah sisters. By the time she returned to the Tower, she had mellowed and matured, but underneath she was still mischievous and light-hearted.
Mabyllin Sedai is currently the Mistress of Novices in the White Tower. She has a reputation for strictness, but is actually soft-hearted and often kind to Novices, when they deserve it. She has no warder at present, but has had three, and married the second and third in succession. She has a daughter from her first marriage, Ellisara a'Mabyllin, who is an Aes Sedai of the Brown Ajah.
Mabyllin is about 150 years old and still looks untouched by age but has an air of wisdom and maturity. She is tall, with long dark brown hair worn in a braided mat at the neck. She has hazel eyes, heavy dark eyebrows, and an elegant long nose; she is considered handsome.
Mabyllin enjoys associating with common people, a tendency she learned
from growing up in various villages and small towns. She is flirtatious
with the right kind of men, but generally very ladylike. She possesses
a sharp sense of humor but often remains quiet. She loves to ride, sew,
do embroidery, read, sing, and most surprisingly, is an excellent card
player. She is very interested in the arts and is known to be a patron
of musicians and sculptors.
