No one takes their job more seriously than Macon. He would gladly sacrifice his life to protect his portal. Visitors are treated gruffly and quickly ushered along. Macon rarely allows any to pass through his portal unless they provide him with some service first. Even then, it may take some sort of bribe to gain access. Macon's gruff demeanor is reflected in his appearance as well. A constant scowl and squinted eyes let all who approach that they are not welcome. A bandoleer of glistening knives stretch across his black silk covered chest and another set run down the length of his right leg. |
As a homeless runaway, Macon spent much of his childhood visiting the local circus, standing in awe of the performers. He was particularly enthralled with a husband and wife team of magician and knife thrower. He secretly practiced his own throwing skills behind the tent. One afternoon, the couple noticed his talent and offered to let him go on tour with them. Overjoyed at finally having a "home" and purpose in life, Macon gladly accepted and put his whole heart into his training. Over the years, the Fabulous Farstrikers became famous, mostly because of his skills at such a young age. The couple grew to love young Macon and planned to adopt him as one of their own. Unfortunately, during the next tour, the circus was attacked by a band of robbers and the only family he ever knew was killed. Macon was overcome with anger and grief and left on a quest to avenge them. It took many years to track down each of the killers and this taxed his soul greatly. He became distant and aloof, hardened to the grim realities of life alone. When the last robber had been brought to bloody justice at the tip of Macon's knife, Macon found that he had no more purpose in life and drifted aimlessly in despair into Greatwood Forest. A mysterious voice appeared in his mind offering to give him purpose again. Having nothing to lose, Macon followed the voice to the Tree of Ages and accepted it's offer to guards the portal to the Stormlands high in it's boughs. |
