Spider-Man/Marrow (2/01) - In the long awaited return of Marrow to comics, Peter Parker meets college student Sarah Rushman and after a series of flirty banters, they agree to go out for coffee. After the date, Sarah is attacked by S.H.I.E.L.D. agents and while Spider-Man attacks them, Sarah transforms into Marrow and runs off into the night. Sharon Carter, head of S.H.I.E.L.D. explains to Spider-Man that they found Marrow weeks ago in the sewers (alone and again-ugly) and have been controlling her with drugs to do their bidding. Specifically, she is being used to kill life model decoys (robots), but when she misses a dose of her drugs she becomes uncontrollable and unstable. The Sarah Rushman persona is not an actual person but rather an implanted memory S.H.I.E.L.D. has put into Marrow's mind to control her during the day.
After Spider-Man condemns Sharon for using Marrow as nothing more than an expendible slave, he goes off to find her. She instead finds him and during the battle Marrow holds back and does not kill Spider-Man when she has the opportunity. Sensing that Marrow still has love and goodness within her, Spider-Man tries to convince her to get help. She instead throws herself off of a bridge and falls to her apparent death. However, at the end of the issue she is seen being carried away in the sewers by Hemingway, her former Gene Nation teammate.
