History: Born Sarah of the Morlocks, Marrow was one of the few tunnel dwellers to survive the Morlock Massacre that nearly decimated the Morlock population. Though she was carried to safety by the future X-Man Gambit, her childhood hero Angel was not so lucky and was crucified while trying to rescue the others. Where Gambit left Marrow and what happened to her following the Massacre remains a mystery. Much later, she and a handful of other Morlock survivors who had returned to the tunnels were teleported to another dimension called "The Hill" by Mikhail Rasputin. In this harsh environment (which has been heavily implied to be the interdimensional Limbo) she aged at a very rapid rate and learned to fight and kill. Marrow returned from "The Hill" with a band of terrorists called Gene Nation on the anniversary of the Mutant Massacre. In an attempt to avenge the deaths of her people, she and Gene Nation hijacked a subway car and tied the prisoners down with explosives. Marrow had attached the timer for these bombs to her own heart! When the X-Men arrived, Storm faced Marrow in hand-to-hand combat and ripped her heart from her chest in order to prevent the detonation of the bombs.

Over a year later, the presumed dead Marrow resurfaced and joined forces with Callisto, former leader of the Morlocks. The two began a short-lived terrorist spree, including an attack on a Lila Cheney benefit concert and an attempt to kill mutant-hater Peter Gyrich. During the assassination attempt on Gyrich's life, Marrow was confronted by Spider-Man who urged her to reconsider her murderous ways. When Callisto was gravely injured during the struggle, she pushed Marrow to seek out the protection of the X-Men. Marrow reluctantly did so and remained a part of the team even after Callisto's wounds were healed. She slowly became a more willing team member and became friends with people she formerly thought of as enemies.

A while after joining the team, Marrow was gravely injured by Gambit's charged card while on a mission and she nearly died. While on the Skrull homeworld, Gambit sought out medical help for her and found a healing machine of Shi'ar origin. The machine not only healed her wounds, but caused a major transformation in Marrow. She became able to control her bones with great accuracy, thereby altering her appearance to look more normal. Her personality was also changed as a result; Marrow acted cheery, playful, and friendly most of the time. She started becoming particularly fond of Gambit, not yet knowing that he was the person that caused the massacre of her people years ago...

Marrow eventually left the X-Men for as yet unknown reasons. She was found alone in the sewers by a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and used for a short time as a robot assassin. She escaped the clutches of the manipulative S.H.I.E.L.D. and was in hiding for almost a year. Most recently she resurfaced, this time being manipulated by the director of the new Weapon X project. In return for her loyalty, they experimentally altered her powers in such a way as to give her total control over her bones and outward appearance. Her initiation into the group was confirmed when, following orders, she assassinated former friend and Gene Nation leader D'Gard. Hugely unstable and unwilling to allow anyone to get close to her ever again, it is anyone's guess what Marrow's stint in Weapon X will bring to the Marvel Universe.

Mutant Powers: Marrow's mutant ability grants her a unique physiology. Until recently, she was subject to random uncontrolled bone growth throughout her body, and she was able to pull these bones out to use as weapons. These protruding bones were generally long and sharp, and they caused her constant pain, particularly when she extracted them. Since her recent transformation thanks to the Weapon X Project, Marrow is able to completely control her bone growth, forming plates of armor or starp horns. She can produce them from her body at will, and in the past has been able to shoot them out at enemies like quills.

Since Marrow has exhibited a second heart, there is indication that her regenerative powers may affect her internal organs as well as bones. Marrow's skin heals quickly after pulling out a bone, giving evidence of an enhanced healing factor and a stronger than normal immune system. Her enhanced skeleton gives her some protection against concussive impact, and she has also exhibited limited resistance to psionic attack. Marrow has displayed hunting and tracking skills which may or may not be linked to her mutant powers.
