Format: Miles beneath the surface of the Arizona desert lies Project: Tic Toc: a top secret government research complex where the U.S. military are experimenting with a massive gateway to past and future ages called THE TIME TUNNEL. Doug Phillips and Tony Newman, two of the scientists working on the project become helplessly lost in the infinite corridors of time. While their fellow scientists labour to save them, the two time travellers become involved in key moments of historical and future events.
Dr. Tony Newman, an experimental subject in the Time Tunnel, tries to change the course of history when he lands on the deck of the Titanic.
U.S. Senator Leroy Clark arrives from Washington at the secret desert locale of Project: Tic Toc intending to scrap the Time Tunnel operation unless its masterminds, scientists Douglas Phillips and Anthony Newman, can show some significant breakthrough in their experiments to travel through time. In a desperate effort to stave off the termination of the project Tony Newman enters the Time Tunnel prematurely. He is hurled backwards through time, tumbling out of the sky onto the deck of the ill-fated ocean liner Titanic just hours before it is destined to hit an iceberg and sink. Tony tries to persuade Captain Smith to change the course of the ship - and of history - but Smith thinks he's either mad or a spy from a rival steamship line and has him imprisoned. Meanwhile at Project: Tic Toc, Tony's predicament is being relayed by the Time Tunnel's massive viewing screen. Doug Phillips, dressed in period garb and carrying a copy of the New York Sentinel (its banner headline proclaiming the Titanic catastrophe), also enters the Time Tunnel in order to save Tony. Arriving on the Titanic, Doug is just as unsuccessful at convincing Captain Smith of the impending disaster and is also locked up. Only when it is too late and his ship is ripped open by the iceberg does Smith believe what the time travellers have told him and has them released. The Time Tunnel retrieves Doug and Tony from the ship as it goes down, but now both men are lost in time.

When the time travellers land in a
spaceship bound for Mars, their added weight endangers the trip.
Spinning out of the time vortex, Doug and Tony land in the Mars Excursion Module - a project they know is ten years in their future. Meanwhile, Commander Kane had just learned from flight engineer Beard that they are carrying 300 pounds extra weight, and therefore are not able to achieve escape velocity. Unable to consult Mission Control, Kane orders the overweight service module to be jettisoned and announces that the mission is scrubbed. At the Time Tunnel, they have located the time travellers, only to find that Doug and Tony are in danger of being set adrift. Instead, however, Beard fires the boosters, losing fuel that will have to be replenished during a stop on the moon. When the time travellers are discovered they are thought to be saboteurs by everyone except Harlow. As Beard is insisting that they be ejected into space, Kane calls for a calculation to see if their added weight will prevent a soft landing on the moon. Back at Project: Tic Toc, computers are working on the same problem, their final results indicate that there will be a crash, while the spaceship's computers instruct Kane to land. The ship does crash, but harmlessly. Doug and Tony are held under guard while Beard and Harlow go for fuel. Beard kills Harlow at the fuel depot, then takes explosives to blow up the spacecraft. His purpose is to keep the U.S.A. from getting to Mars first. Meanwhile, the picture control console at the Time Tunnel has been blown up by Washington observer Brandon. Another observer is Beard - but ten years younger than the one in space. When word comes to the Time Tunnel that there is an enemy agent among them, Brandon pulls a gun and orders everyone into the Tunnel, where he plans to annihilate them. But young Beard pulls the power wires, guards enter and Brandon bolts. On the moon, Doug and Tony manage to get into spacesuits, close in on the older Beard and blow him and the fuel depot to smithereens. They then find that Kane has blasted off without them. The air in space suits won't last much longer than two hours. Control of the Time Tunnel is regained as the younger Beard shoots Brandon, a spy who outranks him, so Doug and Tony are once again caught up in the vortex of time...

Tony And Doug land in an American town during a visit by Halley's Comet, and have to convince a panicked populace that the world is not coming to an end.
Tony and Doug spin out of the time vortex into a mine shaft just at the moment when an explosion collapses part of the mine. The year is 1910. Tony, caught between cave-ins, is sealed into a short length of the tunnel, while dirt and debris trap two hundred miners beyond. Doug rushes to the mining superintendent for help, only to be greeted by a dour Mr. Henderson who says that the cave-in doesn't matter. He points to a giant comet, seemingly headed straight for the Earth. Back at the Time Tunnel, Ann and Dr. Swain confirm that the object is Halley's comet. That means nothing to Henderson who is convinced that the world is coming to an end. Doug digs Tony out himself, just as a rumbling shake announces further collapse inside. They go again to Henderson for help, but the mining superintendent cannot be shaken from his doomed forecast, saying that the famed astronomer, Ainsley, has predicted that the comet will hit the Earth. While Tony goes into town to round up men, Doug visits Ainsley. The town is deserted and Ainsley refuses to reconsider until Doug begins going over the figures with him. At Project: Tic Toc, the scientists try to send Doug a radarscope to help him convince Ainsley, but the influence of the comet causes it to explode in the Tunnel. Finding a primitive version of a radarscope, Doug is able to show the astronomer the otherwise invisible object which will draw the comet away from its collision course with Earth. By now, Tony, Henderson and the Sheriff are trying to dig out the trapped miners themselves, as the rest of the townspeople are gathered on the hillside praying. When Ainsley shows them his remarkable discovery, demonstrating that the comet will not hit the Earth, everyone runs to help dig out the miners. The Tunnel transfers Doug and Tony back into the time vortex where the two become separated. Tony arrives back at Project: Tic Toc, but ten years before he left. The Time Tunnel returns him to the vortex where he is rejoined with Doug.

Tony and Doug find themselves in the Japanese Consulate in Honolulu and see Chief of espionage Tasaka, his aide Okuno, and agent Sumida burning files. Looking at a calendar they discover the date to be December 6, 1941, and quickly leave the office. Tony was born in Pearl Harbour and his father was lost in the sneak attack. Now, perhaps he can discover what happened to him. The two go to a Mrs. Neal's house. There they find Tony's father and warn him that the Japanese are going to attack tomorrow. Commander Newman doesn't believe them and dismisses them from the house. By spying in on the conversation, Sumida has been warned of the time travellers' foreknowledge. Doug and Tony are taken prisoner and held captive in a warehouse, where Tasaka and Okuno try to sweat the truth out of them. Meanwhile Commander Newman goes to Naval Headquarters to check on the validity of Tony's prediction. At Project: Tic Toc, the Tunnel has lost its fix on Doug and Tony and they realise that they must save the child Tony from tomorrow's bombing or the adult Tony may cease to exist. The time travellers solve the problem by breaking out of the warehouse, then racing to Mrs. Neal's house where they persuade her to take little Tony and her son up to the mountains for safety. By now the attack has begun but Doug and Tony are able to make their way to the Naval Yard where Commander Newman is manning the radio. A barrage hits and Tony's father is struck. The Time Tunnel scientists can see an unexploded bomb in the Naval Office. By transferring it through time they are able to delay it from exploding long enough for Tony to say farewell to his dying father. Tony and Doug escape the office before the bomb explodes. Tony now knows why his father was never found. Mrs. Neal and the children are safe. The time travellers fade back into the vortex.

1938 birthdate he gave in Rendezvous With Yesterday).
The time travellers, landing in the last battle of the War of 1812, are in danger of being executed as British spies.
Landing in the last battle of the War of 1812, Tony and Doug are captured by a patrol and brought before Colonel Southall, who orders them to be tried as spies. The harried Colonel is engaged in a battle at New Orleans against Andrew Jackson's forces, and is desperately in need of information as to whether Jackson is concentrating his strength to the East or to the West. At Project: Tic Toc, Kirk has brought in period expert General Southall, a descendant of the Colonel, to help pinpoint the time and placement of Doug and Tony. Meanwhile Colonel Southall finds Doug and Tony guilty, but in a last ditch attempt to get information about Jackson's deployment, he forces Tony to guide patrol-leader Hotchkiss to the American lines. If Tony returns with the required information his and Doug's lives will be spared. Privately, however, Southall instructs Hotchkiss to kill Tony anyway. Back at the Time Tunnel, General Southall, who has made a career of studying his ancestor's fatal blunder at this battle asks to be transported to the scene. Doug is facing a firing squad when permission comes from Washington for General Southall to use the Time Tunnel. Materialising at the scene of the execution, the General saves Doug, then concentrates his efforts on convincing his ancestor that he knows how the battle is going to turn out. He knows that the Colonel will attack to the West, yet the signal will tell him to attack to the East. Doug and Tony go with the signalman to set the signal rocket. During a fight, the rocket is accidentally set off to the West. General Southall now knows why his ancestor made the blunder and attacked to the West. He is happy to die in the disastrous battle. Doug and Tony are whisked back into the vortex of time.

Doug and Tony find themselves on the volcanic island of Krakatoa in 1883 on the day it blew up.
Doug and Tony materialise in a tropical jungle, in the midst of a volcanic eruption. They encounter a group of natives led by Karnosu who tells his men that only a human sacrifice will appease the volcano. They overpower the time travellers and are about to throw them to their deaths when an English voice calls out and halts them. Dr. Howland, a middle aged explorer, appears. He has been sent by the Royal Society to study the volcano, which is, as Doug and Tony learn, Krakatoa. In the Time Tunnel complex, Ann's time fix shows that the pair have appeared in the summer of 1883, but Swain, knowing that Doug has done some research on volcanoes, says he will know the danger. At Howland's camp Doug asks the date, but aside from the year and the month Howland has lost track. He came out of England in May, after Krakatoa's first explosion. When Doug and Tony try to convince him that another explosion is due, he says that his calculations set such a possibility about 30 years hence. At Project: Tic Toc, Jerry announces that Krakatoa blew up at 10.02 am, 27 August, 1883. According to Dr. Howland's daughter Eve's diary, it is August 26. Doug decides that they must try to get to Java, but Ann's new time fix shows that Java will be flooded by a tidal wave. Only the high ground of Sumatra is safe. Neither Howland nor Eve believe Doug's insistence that an eruption is imminent. When lava begins to spew forth from Krakatoa, Tony accuses Dr. Howland of lying about his theories. The scientist finally admits that he wanted the chance to measure the volcanic activity up to the moment of explosion but promises to leave with them in the afternoon when his instrument readings will be completed. Doug, feeling that something is wrong, scans Eve's diary and finds that she forgot about the International Date Line. Today is August 27th! Karnosu and his men capture the time travellers again, determined to sacrifice them to the volcano. Seeing this on the Tunnel's viewscreen, General Kirk authorises a new type of time transfer proposed by Jerry. Tony disappears from the natives grasps and is returned to the Time Tunnel. However, Tony finds that the Tunnel personnel are frozen in a time warp, a side effect caused by the new technique. The only way to reverse the effect is for Tony go back through the Tunnel. Setting the controls he finds Jerry's notes about Sumatra and with this information sends himself back to Krakatoa. Tony reappears in front of the natives who release Doug in their surprise. In the melee Karnosu falls to his death and the others subside. Tony convinces Eve that time has run out, but she is too frightened of her father to challenge him. The Time Tunnel manage to make voice contact with Doug and Tony. Hearing this, the dumbfounded Howland is also forced to believe the time travellers. Howland, Eve and the natives paddle toward Sumatra while Doug and Tony are pulled back into the time vortex.

Doug and Tony become caught up in the war between the Greeks and the Trojans.
Somewhere in the Mediterranean, before 500 B.C., Tony and Doug materialise in no-man's land between the converging armies of the Greeks and the Trojans, outside Troy. Captured immediately, they are taken to Ulysses, leader of the Greek army, and his aide Sardis. When Doug and Tony predict that the Greeks will win this ten year conflict, Ulysses takes them for gods. Sardis, disgruntled , that Ulysses listens to the time travellers instead of taking his military advice, challenges Tony. As the Time Tunnel crew focuses in on the event, Tony and Sardis are engaged in battle, Tony defeating but not killing his foe. Thoroughly humiliated, Sardis sneaks off to Troy to join forces with Paris, the Trojan prince, who holds Helen prisoner against her will. He returns with a small patrol and kidnaps Doug while Tony is talking to Ulysses, who is forecasting his plan to use a wooden horse to penetrate the walls of Troy. Inside the Trojan palace, Doug demonstrates his knowledge of the future when he precipitates a quarrel between Paris and Helen. Helen warns Paris that to kill one god is to offend them all, so Paris orders that Doug is not to be harmed. The next day, when Tony leaps into the fray to light the Greek's firetrap with a torch, he is rescued from the Trojans by Jiggs, who is briefly transmitted through the Tunnel. The firetrap works and the Trojans are beaten back into their city. That night the wooden horse is finished and Ulysses pretends to depart. The horse is left outside the city gates as a supposed tribute to the victors, so Paris brings it inside for all to see. But during the night the Greek soldiers slip out of the horse and open the city gates letting in more Greek troops. Sardis sounds the alarm, but the Trojans are taken by surprise. Tony forces Sardis to tell him where Doug is and rushes away to save him. Sardis is killed, Ulysses cuts Paris down; Helen is rescued; Troy is burned and Tony and Doug are switched back into the time vortex.

The time travellers land on the site of Custer's last stand and try to save themselves from the massacre.
Doug and Tony, landing on the edge of a prairie, amidst half a dozen dead cavalry soldiers, are captured by a trio of Indians; Crazy Horse, Yellow Elk, and Knife. Tony pleads that they are not soldiers or enemies, but Crazy Horse says that they must die just the same. At the Time Tunnel, the crew has called in an expert from the Indian Bureau to help fix the time and place where the time travellers have landed. Meanwhile, the Indians are questioning Tony and Doug about a man they call Yellow Hair, when they are distracted by a cavalry trumpet. Fifteen year old Tim McGinnis, sole survivor of the dead detail, tries to rescue them, but Tony is recaptured as Doug rides off with Tim. At the Tunnel complex, Dr Charles Whitebird, a Sioux, reports that his ancestors are brewing trouble. He says that Tony has been brought before Chief Sitting Bull and that the yellow haired man in question is General Custer. The place is the Little Big Horn, the time, June 1876. Together with Doug, Tim takes a message to Custer, telling him to wait until he is joined by other units. But Custer, planning the greatest coup of his military career, wants to take the gathered Indians by surprise. He ignores Doug's plea that he should rescue Tony and when Doug persists Custer orders that he be imprisoned. Tim releases Doug again, while Tony is telling Sitting Bull that though he will win the forthcoming battle, his people will suffer for it in years to come. Sitting Bull, impressed by Tony's courage, lets him try to talk peace to Custer. Doug, still Custer's prisoner, now devotes himself to trying to get Tim transferred out of Custer's command. When Tony arrives and registers his plea for peace, he too is imprisoned. Custer, in the meantime, mounts his attack, at the last moment reassigning Tim to a new battalion leader, Major Reno. As Custer marches towards battle, Tony and Doug distract their guards and escape, meeting Tim and delaying his joining Reno until the battle moves on towards Custer. Yellow Elk, on the fringe of the massacre, warns the trio to flee for their lives. With Tim safe, Tony and Doug dematerialise into the time vortex.

On Devil's Island, the time travellers narrowly escape a dark fate planned for Dreyfuss.
As six political prisoners are landed on a remote part of Devil's Island, they make a break for it. Two swim out to sea, and while the others are being recaptured, Tony and Doug appear out of the vortex of time and are taken for the vanished pair by head guard Lescoux. The next day in the jungle Doug manages to slip away from the work crew and knock out a guard, then goes to the Commandant to try to explain how he and Tony came to be here. With Doug holding the guard's gun, the Commandant pretends interest, but the moment that Doug's back is turned, he pulls a gun and turns him over to be put in the sweatbox as a punishment. When Captain Dreyfuss lands on the Island, the Time Tunnel team are able to fix the date - March 15 1895. The prisoners are spurred by the arrival of the heroic Dreyfuss to plan an escape for him and themselves. Tony goes with prisoner Boudaire to confer with Dreyfuss. The next day prisoner Perrault spots a rowing boat riding at the water's edge, and Tony slips away from the work gang to hide it, narrowly escaping being caught by Lescoux. Now the prisoners have a means of escape. They are all in the barracks that night when the Time Tunnel attempts a pick up. But when all the power of the Tunnel is focused on the pair, Boudaire walks between them and is picked up instead. At the Tunnel, Boudaire soon comes to understand how it was that Doug and Tony landed amongst the prisoners, but he declines to return to the island so that the two can be rescued. Meanwhile he watches the fate of his fellows on the Tunnel screen and learns that the prisoners' escape is actually being planned by the Commandant so that Dreyfuss can be shot while attempting to escape. Thus everything is made easy for the prisoners, while two guards with a cannon are stationed to shoot the escapees. Meanwhile Tony and Doug face new danger when Boudaire's absence makes the Commandant threaten the prisoners with the guillotine if the prisoners don't tell where he is. But Boudaire is so outraged at the Commandant's plot against Dreyfuss that he consents to go back to warn the others. Swain tells him how he can lead the prisoners to safety, but warns him not to take Dreyfuss, as there is no record of him ever having escaped the island. When Boudaire returns the escape has started, but he is too disorientated by his passage through time to pass on any of the messages given to him. Thus Doug ties up the Commandant while Perrault tries to hurry Dreyfuss away. But Dreyfuss refuses to go, as he believes it is his duty to stay and stand up for his principals. With the Commandant all but urging him to escape, Doug suddenly sees what Boudaire has not been able to tell him, that it is a plot to kill Dreyfuss. After assuring Dreyfuss that he will be taken off the island soon and acquitted, Doug sprints out, and with Tony finds the guards with the cannon. Knocking them out, they run back down the hill to the others in the boat. In that moment the Time Tunnel picks them up and as they disappear, Boudaire's memory is jogged and he calls to the others to take off in the gathering ocean fog.

Doug tumbles out of the time vortex into a Paris street and is arrested by guards and thrown into a tumbril cart. Tony, a few streets away, sees the tumbril and is horrified to recognise Doug. He tackles the cart, and frees Doug, then they are both saved from the guard by a shopkeeper, who opens a side door to let them in. They have landed in the French revolution. The shopkeeper's motive in hiding them is that since they are obviously foreigners, they must be here to help his Queen, Marie Antoinette, in whose service he is deeply involved. But while he is helping them to exchange their conspicuous clothes for citizens' sans-culottes, an officer named Querque comes and arrests him. He is taken off to prison. At the Time Tunnel, Kirk insists on sending his ring, an antique family heirloom, through time to the travellers to help get a focus on them. As it drops at their feet, they are immediately approached by Querque, who takes the ring and orders their arrest. They have been utterly amazed by the sight of him, as he is General Kirk's double! Querque, finding an inscription in the ring, that reveals that Marie Antoinette has a lover, uses this knowledge to bring a charge against her, making him a hero. Tony and Doug, finding themselves in a cell with the shopkeeper, easily arrange a breakout by luring the guards inside, knocking them out and taking their clothes. Those at the Time Tunnel are handicapped in trying to pick up Tony and Doug because Querque is wearing the ring the Tunnel is focused on, so they decide to pick up Querque as the only way of keeping him from doing harm to Doug and Tony. He arrives, and watches the events of his own time on the screen. Though it is proved to him, by setting the time lock forward, that Marie Antoinette will be beheaded whether he does anything or not, he still watches the events with mounting rage as Tony, Doug and the shopkeeper visit the anguished queen. The travellers, knowing that they cannot help her, plan to rescue her son the Dauphin, whose fate is destined to be unknown. Querque seethes as he gives them particulars about where the boy is kept, and when the Tunnel technicians place the ring in the Tunnel in another attempt to use it to pick up Doug and Tony, he breaks away, strides into the Tunnel after the ring, and with it is sent back to his own time. He does not catch up with the escapees until they have smuggled the Dauphin and the shopkeeper past a young Corsican Lieutenant named Bonaparte, by keeping him spellbound with an account of his great destiny. The shopkeeper and the boy are safe by the time Querque pounces on the time travellers, but with the travellers and the ring in the same location, the Tunnel is able to get a fix and they are transferred in front of his very eyes.

When an enemy scientist claims to have defected to the US, Tony and Doug are sent back in time for vital information on him.
In his interview with General Parker, Dr Biraki offers his services as a Time Tunnel expert to the U.S. He claims to have built such a machine in his own country, but then realised that he was serving the wrong political cause. disclosing nothing about already having such a machine, General Parker requests that the time travellers check the background of the Doctor. To do this Tony and Doug land in Europe where they discover that the date is June 1956. Meeting a man named Alexis, they find that they have been mistaken for a pair of scientists who are to be escorted the next morning to Project A 13. The project turns out to be a primitive replica of the Time Tunnel, presided over by Dr Biraki, some ten years younger than when he spoke to General Parker. Dr Biraki, expecting spies Williams and Smith, takes Doug and Tony to be these compatriots and urges them to have a good look at the Tunnel. Not knowing that they are thought to be spies, they pretend to admire the Tunnel, while noting that it does not have a radiation bath, which means that it cannot work. They learn that Biraki means to send travellers through the time capsule, a technique which they know means certain death, and that they have been chosen to make the test flight. The scientists back at the U.S. Time Tunnel know the danger of the capsule technique, so they begin a corresponding count down, the difference being that at the count of zero they plan to transfer the men from the capsule. The result is disastrous. Tony and Doug are nearly killed as the forces from the two Time Tunnels tear at them. But when the primitive capsule does not move, they are removed from it. Later Biraki hears them discussing the lack of a radiation bath and he holds them prisoners until they construct one. The two get to work, but instead of constructing the bath they sabotage Biraki's Tunnel and cause it to explode. Biraki thinks that they are dead, but in fact they have returned to the time vortex. Back in 1968, Parker arrests Biraki for espionage.

Pinkerton thinks Tony and Doug are part of a pre-war plot to assassinate Lincoln.
Tony and Doug whirl out of the time corridor into a dimly lit barn where armed men, led by a fanatic, Jeremiah, are holding a meeting. Jeremiah means to kill Abraham Lincoln who will be passing through Baltimore on the way to his inauguration. Jeremiah's fear is that Lincoln will make peace with the seceding states in the South. His assassination will be blamed on Southern Secessionists, and the North will then attack the South, abolishing slavery. With Tony and Doug being accepted as part of the movement, the meeting is raided by the detective Pinkerton and his men, who have been tipped to the plot. Tony and Doug realise their danger. They have to get out before they are taken for plotters. But amidst the hail of bullets they fail to make good their getaway, and Tony, knocked out by a raider, is dragged off by Jeremiah and his brother Matthew, while Doug is captured by Pinkerton's men. Tony, taken to a house near the railway track, wakes to find that Jeremiah is undeterred. He has a home-made time bomb that he proposes to plant on Lincoln's train as it is switched through the city. Meanwhile Doug is being interrogated by Pinkerton at the railway depot nearby. Lincoln's train arrives and Lincoln himself comes in to remonstrate with Pinkerton over the elaborate precautions being taken in the Baltimore area. But Doug confirms that there is a plot to kill Lincoln, and indeed Jeremiah and his brother have already tied Tony up, and with their small brother David left in the next room, are on their way to plant the bomb. While Matthew makes a diversion by pretending to hunt rabbit, Jeremiah finds that the best place to leave the bomb is at the depot and, setting its mechanism, plants it there. Tony, meanwhile, frees himself and runs to the station to give warning. No one listens to his story, so he goes out to find the bomb himself. Unable to disarm it, he throws it a distance away, where it is found by David, who has run after him. The Time Tunnel, meanwhile, is ready to do a pick up on the bomb, but gets little David along with it. Unable to coax the frightened child out of the Tunnel, they toss him a tool with which to jam the timer. He is returned to the depot where he drops the bomb and Jeremiah, realising where it is, runs to get it. he wants to make a second attempt to kill Lincoln. Matthew has begun to see his brother for the homicidal maniac that he is, and tries to stop him, but is beaten. All this time, Doug and Tony have been trying to get Pinkerton to believe that there is a plot, which they are not a part of, and that there is a bomb that is still a danger. Everything indicates that they are lying, but Tony persuades the secret service men to have a look at Jeremiah's cabin. There they find everything; bomb components and other evidence. Meanwhile Jeremiah has found the bomb and resets it. Matthew, however, faces him again, saying that he is going to take the bomb away from him, and he will have to shoot him to stop him. The fanatical Jeremiah cannot bring himself to do that and the bomb is tossed away to explode harmlessly in the air, while Lincoln's train, with the president aboard, pulls away from the depot.

It is 1836, and Mexican snipers are harrying the Alamo when Doug and Tony arrive in turn, one landing in front of the snipers, and one behind. They manage to get to the shelter of the fort, being let in by Captain Reynerson, who thinks they are bringing word of reinforcements to come. Under the same impression is the current commander of the fort, Colonel Travis, who comes to question them. The time travellers, recognising some of the names mentioned; Bowie, Crockett, and others, ask the date. It is March 6, the day the Alamo fell to Santa Ana. At the Time Tunnel complex the scientists discover that they have about nine hours to get the pair out of the doomed fort. Doug and Tony, meanwhile, are resolved to try to save at least Reynerson's wife and some of the wounded whom she is nursing. But Bowie is already trying to get Travis to evacuate Mrs Reynerson and her patients, while Travis is too stubborn to listen. He is unreceptive when Tony tries to talk to him, and ends by ordering both time travellers to be confined in the store room. Doug's injuries in the ensuing scuffle are Tony's excuse for summoning Reynerson. The young Captain is quite willing to go along with his demand for a doctor for Doug and the rest of the wounded. The fort surgeon is dead but in the nearby town is Dr Armandez, a tough but sympathetic Mexican. When Tony volunteers to go, Reynerson allows him to take his pistol and co-operates in faking his own capture while Tony gets away. Doug, meanwhile, recovers and warns Reynerson that the fort will be taken before the day is over. Bowie, he says, will be incapacitated by a fall, and within minutes it happens, but the two in the store room are unaware of Bowie's accident. Outside, Tony is captured by a Mexican, Garcia, who, realising that Tony will not bring him any ransom money, takes him to his commander, Rodriguez, who is with Dr Armandez. At the fort, Doug bargains with Travis, telling the commander that he will exchange his `captive', Reynerson, for a word with Bowie. Travis makes the deal and takes the two of them to Bowie, who is unconscious. Travis then takes Doug prisoner again, leaving Reynerson dazed by the truth of Doug's prediction. In town, Tony is trying to deal with Rodriguez for Armandez' services. He fails and is fighting off soldiers when Armandez, in a wagon, rescues him and they head for the fort. Reynerson, by now convinced that the fort will fall, frees Doug at the moment when the Tunnel is trying to make a pick up, so Travis is picked up instead. Faced with the scientists and flashing consoles, he doubts all that is told him until he is shown the actual outcome of the battle for the Alamo, and his own death. Then he insists on going back to meet his fate. With a promise to free Doug, he returns to the fort. The battle begins and he is killed. While Mexicans pour in through a hole in the wall, Tony only has time to persuade Armandez to save Mrs Reynerson before he and Doug are caught up by the time vortex.

The time travellers land in the Indian desert at the time of a critical battle between the British and a border chieftain.
The time travellers land in an Asian desert where Doug is carried off by tribesman and Tony is rescued from the scorching sands by an adventurous and inquisitive young English reporter named Rudyard Kipling. In the hands of an Afghanistan tribal chief, Hira Singh, Doug is being questioned about his knowledge of a nearby British outpost. At the same time in London this area is occupying the attention of the Prime Minister Gladstone, who tells his cabinet that if the tribes ever unite against the British at the border, India will be lost. Chief Hira Singh must be contained and there is only one undermanned fort at the Khyber Pass to do it. At Project: Tic Toc, The Tunnel suddenly goes dead and communication with Doug and Tony is lost. Doug's actions antagonise the chief and he is condemned to die and his body to be sent to the British garrison in an attempt to stir up a reprisal by the British. That, plans Singh, is when he will wipe out the garrison, then unite the Afghan tribes to sweep over India and drive out every white man. But Singh's plan is interrupted by news that a supply train is on the way to the garrison, a target he cannot resist. Meanwhile, at the garrison, Tony and Kipling try to convince the commander, Colonel Fettretch that he must rescue Doug from the Afghans. He sends a patrol to guard the supply train while Kipling gets uniforms for Tony and himself. They plan to go out with the patrol , hoping in some way to rescue Doug. He, meanwhile, is being released by Kashi, a blind man, who directs him to the fort, and says that he himself will follow later. The supply train is saved by the patrol, but Kipling is injured and carried off by Singh's man. When Tony goes to report this to Fettretch , he finds Doug has arrived and has been warning the garrison of the tribes' plans. Soon, Kashi, dying, is sent to the garrison by Singh. He lives just long enough to warn that tomorrow is the night of the planned uprising. The only thing to do is to take Singh by surprise, and attack him tonight. At Project: Tic Toc, Jerry overloads the power buffer to regain contact with Doug and Tony. The time travellers are planning to rescue Kipling as Fettretch gives his approval for an attack on Singh tonight. The result is that the pair join the attack on the border chieftain, while those in the Tunnel watch. The manoeuvre is successful, Kipling is rescued and Singh is contained. Tony and Doug vanish into the vortex of time.

The time travellers land in Cherbourg two days before D Day and Doug falls into the hands of a Doctor experimenting with brainwashing.
Doug and Tony tumble onto the streets of Cherbourg just as a trio of French saboteurs are blasting a German prison. The pair, seeking to flee the scene, fall into the hands of Major Hoffman of the Gestapo, who asks them about Allied plans. They do in fact know something, for they see by the calendar that it is 48 hours before D Day. At the Time Tunnel, Ann, Swain, and Kirk watch with concern, knowing that they must leave Cherbourg before the invasion bombing. But as they work to focus on the pair, the two are separated by a Dr Kleinemann who is doing research into brainwashing. He will so completely alter one of the Americans, he promises, that he can be made to kill the other. Directing Hoffman to let Tony escape, he takes a struggling Doug into his laboratory, where he is brainwashed by techniques that include dangerous injections. Meanwhile, Tony is picked up by three saboteurs, Mirabeau, Duchamps and Verlaine, and tries to get them to help him rescue his friend from the Gestapo headquarters. They say it is impossible, but they do come to trust Tony enough to take him along on their next assignment, blowing up the local refinery. Now Doug is being programmed by Kleinemann to think he is a Nazi Captain, Krueger, and that Tony is an enemy he must kill. The refinery sabotage is successful, but Verlaine, in using a machine gun on a soldier, nearly kills Tony too, giving him much to think about when, later, the Gestapo, led by the brainwashed Doug, discover their headquarters. Doug tried to kill Tony, but, he, with the others, manages to escape to a new hideout and there plan their last coup before the invasion. But all the time they fear an informer is with them, and indeed there is one: Mirabeau, who appears at Gestapo headquarters to warn of the invasion and the proposed sabotage. Learning that Tony is part of the plan, Kleinemann summons Doug to tell him to make another attempt to kill Tony. The Time Tunnel has by now been set to make a pick up. Upon finding Tony, Doug, in trying to kill him, is knocked out himself by a bullet grazing his head. A doctor is summoned. The doctor, Shumate, revives Doug, and recognises Mirabeau from the Gestapo Headquarters. Verlaine promptly dispatches the traitor. Shumate says that Doug can only be cured by Kleinemann himself, who has an antidote to the serum. Thus, Tony goes along with the saboteurs who plan to blow up the Gestapo headquarters, and gets Kleinemann out of the building first. The scientist, no warrior, comes along peaceably and gives Doug the necessary antidote. Morning arrives and the invasion begins, whereupon Tony and Doug, now restored, are transferred into the time corridor.

The time travellers are dropped into the conflict between Robin Hood and the King he will force to sign the Magna Carta.
Tony tumbles into the dungeon of a 13th century English castle, while Doug finds himself in the corridor outside a throne room and overhears a conference between King John and the Earl of Huntingdon. The King's advisor, Dubois, denounces Huntingdon as a traitor for spearheading a movement among the barons to force the King to sign the Magna Carta, a document guaranteeing freedom to his subjects. Enraged, King John orders the captain of his guard, Engelhard, to seize Huntingdon, who springs nimbly away and almost makes good his escape but for colliding with Doug. Both are caught and imprisoned and Engelhard is ordered to torture them until they reveal the secret meeting place of the barons who are planning to march on John is he refuses to sign. Tony, meanwhile, moves out of hiding and manages to get Doug and himself out of the castle, but he is not able to save Huntingdon before soldiers converge on the cell. During this, the scientists at the tunnel complex have decided to send a homing post to the pair as a means of extracting them from danger. Bur the metal post falls into the dungeon, as Huntingdon, with the time travellers gone, is recaptured. In the forest, the travellers learn of their whereabouts as they meet up with Friar Tuck and Little John, and find that the captured Huntingdon is none other than Robin Hood. Soon men sent out after the escapees attack, and shoot an arrow into Little john's shoulder. Tony and Doug manage to batter the soldiers aside and Tuck guides them to a nearby hall where the Baroness Elmont offers them sanctuary. Doug consults her cupboard and selects something he knows will kill the pain while Tony extracts the arrow. Meanwhile torture has not drawn any information out of Huntingdon, and the King offers gold to whoever will help him. The Baroness, unfortunately, is seduced by the offer, and informs Dubois of the outlaws at her hall. At the same time, Doug and Little John fight off an attack at the hall by making a smoke bomb with the Baroness's chemicals. Meanwhile Tuck and Tony pose as friars, sent to administer last rites to Huntingdon and thus get inside his cell and free him. As they leave the cell, Tony spots the homing post designed to pick him up, but declines to use it in the absence of Doug. The three get away, leaving the Baroness, who has revealed the location of the barons' meeting place: Runnymede. She will meet her end at Dubois' hands for having brought Robin Hood's men into the castle. The three escapees join Doug and Little John and all quickly plan to capture the King and prevent the disaster he plans at Runnymede. With assistance from the chemical cupboard they make a rocket attack on the castle and kidnap the King. As a result Doug and Tony, are at Runnymede to see King John furiously affix his seal to the Magna Carta before they vanish into the time stream.

Dropped on a Pacific Island in 1945, Doug and Tony are engaged in a deadly game by a despairing Japanese flyer.
As Doug and Tony tumble out of the vortex of time into an island jungle, Tony sprains his ankle. Doug is scouting for medical supplies when he is spotted by an old Japanese Sergeant, Itsugi, who opens fire on him. Doug hits the dirt just in time, and when the gun jams Itsugi is easily overpowered. The pair discover they're on a Pacific island that has just been abandoned by the Japanese, and the time is, of course, World War II. Tony is testing his bandaged ankle when another Japanese, Nakamura, appears and captures the American pair. The young flyer tells them that he means to have a little sport before killing them. He is out to prove how superior he is. Nakamura invents a game; they are, he says, two against two, and they will stalk each other through the jungle, he handicapped by a partner who is an old man. Nakamura then offers some information and a prize. The Americans will be landing today he says, thinking the island to be abandoned, but the Japanese have a mass air attack planned. The prize is the shack, in it is a radio transmitter they could use to warn their side. The Tunnel complex scientists now know that the island is near Owo Jima and that the time is February 1945. To get an exact fix on the endangered pair, they have sent for an expert on the area. Doug, meanwhile, manages to slip into the shack storehouse and gets away with six grenades, a theft soon discovered by Nakamura. Doug melts into the jungle, puzzled by talk he has overheard between Nakamura and Itsugi who seems to think that Nakamura deserves to die. Doug and Tony, rig a jungle trap, then set off a grenade to lead the Japanese to the spot. But Nakamura discovers the booby-trap. The time travellers split up, Doug to try to get Nakamura and Tony to try to rush to the shack to wire for help. The expert has arrived at the Tunnel. He is an elderly man, Dr. Nakamura, who feels faint at the sight of the young man on the island. It is his son, long thought dead. Nakamura was a kamikaze pilot, the Doctor explains, but he abandoned a mission and was then left behind on the island to do the honourable thing - to kill himself. This is what Nakamura is really trying to do. Desperately his father offers the Tunnel team an impossible choice: he will give no information on the island's location unless they will pick up his son. Reluctantly Kirk orders a fix on Nakamura. With the Americans by now passing the island, the scientists need to move quickly. But Nakamura has decided to fulfil his sacred obligation. He offers himself to Doug to be killed. Doug can't do it, but a landing marine takes care of it for him. Then, as the island is taken, Doug and Tony are swept up into the corridor of time.

The time travellers fall into the hands of aliens ruthlessly scouring the universe for food.
Doug and Tony materialise on the floor of an alien spaceship. While the Tunnel scientists work to learn where they are, the two are taken in charge by a pair of aliens, Taureg and Centauri. The travellers learn that the aliens propose a raid on Earth that will devastate it of all its foodstuffs because their planet was exhausted of its protein substances centuries ago. The aliens want their help and demonstrate how they will get co-operation. They have a machine which can immobilise a man, or can kill him. The period, the helpless time travellers learn, is 1885 and the aliens' landing site is Mullins, Arizona. They land at the farm of a truculent farmer, Crawford, and Tony is dispatched to the nearest town to round up all the available food. Doug then conspires with Crawford to try to blast the machine, the source of the aliens' power. But they fail, and Crawford is struck dead while Doug is converted into the aliens' slave. In town, the Sheriff scoffs at Tony's warning about visitors with supernatural powers, but Tony tells him that the aliens will destroy part of the town if he doesn't comply with them. When some of the buildings burst into flames, he is jailed as a mischief maker. He manages to escape and capture the Sheriff in order to march him to Crawford's farm at gunpoint, but Apaches are at hand and the Sheriff simply walks away, knowing that Tony won't dare to shoot lest he attract their attention. Tony then returns to the aliens who make him accompany him into town to assist in the take-over. He sees that Doug's mindless co-operation means that he is in the aliens' power, and plans another attack on the alien' machine, reasoning as Doug did that it is the source of their power. While Doug and the aliens organise the gathering of foodstuffs to be picked up, Tony seeks the now willing Sheriff's assistance. They also get the co-operation of Williams, a fear-shaken bartender, and plan that he will shoot the machine while they arrange a diversion. But he quails in fear at the last moment, and warns the fearsome visitors of the plan. Despite this, Tony manages to get his hands on the machine and smash it. With the smashing of the box, Doug is himself once more, while the two aliens march off to be picked up by their people. As the alien spaceship takes off into the skies, Doug and Tony are whirled back into the vortex of time.

The time travellers wrestle with the avenging ghost of Nero during an Italian/German battle in World War I.
Tony and Doug materialise outside a villa in the Italian Alps during World War I. Taking cover in the basement they do not notice that the lid of a coffin has moved in the crumbling crypt and that something unseen has emerged. Meanwhile a group of Germans, under the leadership of Major Neistadt and Sergeant Mueller, are moving into the villa in order to use it as a lookout post. As Doug and Tony run through basement corridors in flight from the Germans, the ghost follows, leaving a sword stuck through a soldier along the way. The two find the villa's owner, Galba, who is frail and old. He is soon convinced that they are friends, and as they plot to outwit the Germans the pursuing ghost begins to pound on walls and hurl objects. They soon discover that he is the ghost of Nero, seeking vengeance on the man who took his throne, Galba, the present Count's ancestor. The ghost enters the body of Mueller and attacks Galba, who is saved by Doug and Tony. In the Time Tunnel complex, Ann, Swain and Kirk hurry to try to move the pair but find their efforts obstructed by Nero's ghost. Sending for an expert on the supernatural, Steinholtz, they soon see that the ghost is now possessing Tony. Steinholtz recommends shock treatment and the Tunnel directs a momentary current of electricity into him. But as Tony falls unconscious, the mad spirit descends on the Tunnel. Steinholtz remembers that fire was used against poltergeists in the Middle Ages, and flame guns are sent for. The spirit is then herded into the Tunnel by flames and stubbornly heads back through the tunnel to the villa of Galba. Galba appeals to it to take out its vengeance on the real enemy, the Germans, but the spirit attacks him. Doug succeeds in knocking it out so that he and Galba can flee. Coming on Tony, still unconscious, they revive him. By this time the battle outside the villa is escalating. The Italians are fighting back like demons, and Neistadt gives orders to abandon the villa and blow it up. But the Italians begin swarming in. they arrive accompanied by a stocky Corporal, who encounters Neistadt and Mueller, who are both killed. The ghost thereupon enters the body of the Corporal and Tony and Doug recognise that he is Benito Mussolini. They are finally swept up into the vortex of time.

The time travellers land outside the walls of Jericho and become the spies who, according to the Bible, entered the city.
Doug and Tony find themselves before a desert tent and are immediately in danger of being killed when they are saved by Joshua, the Commander of the Israelites. They explain that they have come from the future, and he, impressed by the pair's knowledge of his plans for tumbling the walls of Jericho, sends them over the wall into the city as his spies. In suitable dress, they reach the city only to find its leadership is upset and sacrifices are about to be made. Doug and Tony watch as a procession of virgins is marched up to the temple and learn that one of them, Shala, is to be killed by High Priest Malek. They quickly intervene, surprising everyone so that Shala is able to run to her sister, Rahab, and the two disappear. In the ensuing confusion, Doug is captured while Tony slips into an open doorway only to find that he is in Rahab's house. She gives him shelter because he saved her sister. She tells Tony that she can get him back to the Israelites through a back window at night and sends for her father, to tell Tony how to get into the dungeon to save Doug. Those at the Tunnel complex are appalled to see that Doug is being tortured. Suddenly he vanishes from the Tunnel screen, the reason being that Tony has slipped in by a secret entrance, knocked out his captor and cut Doug free. But they find their way out barred by a group of idling soldiers. It remains for Rahab to distract the soldiers so that the pair can escape. A great search of the city is immediately ordered and when a servant, Ahza, hears there is a reward, she reports the two spies. As a result of Ahza's treachery, a Captain marches in and captures Tony as Doug escapes over the wall. At Project: Tic Toc, Ann grows increasingly distraught as Tony and Rahab are sentenced to be stoned. With everything in the Bible so far confirmed as true, Tony is calm, knowing that Rahab and all who belong to her will be safe, but Ann leaps to the controls and activates the recall system. This action simply blows the connections into a shower of sparks. By now Joshua's marching is incessant, and as he orders all the horns blown, a tornado bears down on the frightened city, and the walls indeed begin to fall. Tony and Rahab are freed by Doug. The Temple totters, the altar falls, and the Israelites sweep in. Rahab is reunited with her family and the time travellers dematerialise into the vortex of time.

The time travellers land in Mexico at the time of Cortez and are nearly killed as spies.
Tony and Doug materialise in the jungles of eastern Mexico where they stumble across the vanguard of Cortez' army as it begins the pillage of this ancient country. As Captain Alvarado lifts a burning stick and approaches an old Indian woman, whose husband and son, Qexcotl, are also prisoners, Doug runs into the clearing. The time travellers are saved from death by the appearance of Cortez himself who immediately assumes that they are spies for his enemy. He orders them to be bound, then personally tortures the old man. Cortez wants to know where their tribe's Golden Mask is hidden. Possession of it will make his conquest simpler. Although he promises to release the Indians, he breaks this promise once the old woman has given him the directions he wants. The bowmen murder the old chief and his wife. Cortez directs Alvarado to find the golden Mask, which is hidden in a cave. Meanwhile at Project: Tic Toc, Swain narrows the time fix, but the travellers' position is not clear, so Ann contacts the Mexican Embassy for help. While Cortez, aware of a plot against him, orders his ships burned to keep his men from turning back, an old Indian Retainer sets the prisoners free. Cortez and Alvarado decide to attend to the `spies', but Doug dashes towards some kegs of gunpowder, threatening to ignite them with a firebrand. With the Retainer and Qexcotl, the time travellers hurry off into the jungle carrying one keg of gunpowder. The young Qexcotl, unaccustomed to leadership, is ready to flee for his own life until Doug and Tony assure him that they may prevent Mexico from falling without a fight if they retain the Golden Mask. They find the first marker of the trail to the Mask before the Spaniards, and Tony and Doug prepare an ambush. At the Tunnel complex, Mr Castillano, an archaeologist familiar with the Vera Cruz area, is briefed by Kirk. Meanwhile, the Spaniards led by Alvarado are surprised at the ambush, but the old Retainer is killed. The time travellers and Qexcotl flee toward the cave of the Mask. Ann learns that Castillano is not cleared by security because of his reputation for illegally removing ancient artefacts. Kirk accepts full responsibility even though the archaeologist has been searching for the Mask for twenty years. At the cave, Alvarado captures Qexcotl and the time travellers. Castillano now knows their exact location, but will only give Kirk the co-ordinates if the Mask is removed first. Inside the cave, the entire group is awe-struck by the treasure. When Alvarado touches the mask, Qexcotl, enraged, starts a fight, but is overpowered. Ann and Swain concentrate on the Golden Mask, but the energy of the transfer process weakens the roof of the cave. Reversal is impossible so Swain freezes everything in time. Castillano grabs the Mask and holds everyone at bay with a gun. Finally Kirk manages to overpower him and throws the Mask back into the Tunnel. A strong quake causes Tony, Doug and Qexctol to rush for the exit, but Alvarado, greedy for the gold, won't leave. Qexcotl, hungry for revenge, re-enters the cave to kill Alvarado but finds him a gibbering madman. He gets out as the cave collapses about the Spaniard. Now a man, Qexcotl starts back to his tribe as Tony and Doug dematerialise.

Landing in New Mexico in the 1880's, Doug and Tony have a near-fatal meeting with Billy the Kid.
Tony and Doug materialise, tumbling into bales of hay alongside a livery stable. Before they can get their bearings, night riders charge through the town. The two run to the Town Marshal, who is undisturbed by the ruckus outside as he proudly displays his prisoner, and tells Doug and Tony they're in Lincoln County. Suddenly the night riders break in, and the Marshal is shoved against the bars where the prisoner takes his keys and unlocks the cell door. As the prisoner aims his gun at the defenceless Marshal, Tony grabs his arm, but the bullet finds its mark. Turning to the two strangers, the prisoner introduces himself as William Bonney - Billy the Kid. For sport, Billy orders Tony to make a suicide dash into the street, but Doug grabs a gun and shoots Billy, who falls to the ground, and lies still. Tony and Doug break free, grab a couple of horses, and ride out. At Project: Tic Toc, Ann, Kirk and Swain try to establish contact again. Kirk instructs Ann to go through their research material on Billy. At the jail, Wilson, the leader of the night riders, is amazed to see Billy raise himself and sit up. The bullet fired by Doug hit his belt buckle and merely stunned him. Swearing to get the stranger, Billy rides out. Meanwhile, Tony and Doug have found a deserted shack and settle down for the night. Back at the Tunnel complex, Ann returns with the research information, which states that Billy was killed by Pat Garrett in July. All Billy's victims are listed by name except for two strangers who Billy killed in 1881, the year they have fixed for Tony and Doug. They must switch them at once, but find that the power supply is low and will take hours to recharge. When the travellers awake, they go to saddle up their horses, but Doug, who returns to the shack, finds Billy waiting for him. Doug tells Billy who he is, but Billy angrily accuses him of lying. The Tunnel scientists then realise that a voice transmission may be the only possibility of saving Doug. Meanwhile, Tony creeps up with a gun, but Billy shoots it out of his hand. Both boys are doomed to die, when Kirk's voice informs Billy that the place is surrounded. Billy is overpowered by the time travellers who tie him up. Tony, wearing Billy's hat and gun, goes for help. When Tony rides into Thatcher, he finds Garrett's deputies waiting for him. Certain that they have captured the dangerous Billy, they lock Tony up. At the shack, Billy, tied and bound, makes a desperate lunge for the door, and Doug knocks him out with the gun butt. With Billy seemingly unconscious, Doug goes for water while Wilson and his men ride in, and release Billy. Doug, seeing this, heads for Thatcher. A mob is gathering when Garrett arrives and informs them that the prisoner is not Billy the Kid. Trapped in the office, Garrett sends one of his deputies out to stampede a herd of cattle down the street to break up the crowd. Tony leads Garrett to the shack, but they find it deserted. Knowing that Doug will head for Thatcher and that Billy will follow, they ride back in time to save Doug. As Garrett leads Billy and Wilson towards the jail, Tony and Doug disappear through time.

The time travellers fall into the hands of the Barbary Coast pirates at the time when Captain Stephen Decatur is set to clean the marauders out.
Time travellers Tony and Doug, materialising on the deck of a pirate ship just as it is capturing a Spanish ship, are mistaken for prisoners. Later, at a camp on an island, the brutal pirate Captain Beal, learning that there is no-one who can ransom them, orders his mate Hampton to shoot them. But he has also taken captive a boy, Armando, who identifies himself as the nephew of the King of Spain, a captive for whom anything the pirates ask will be paid. Appealed to for help by the time travellers, Armando asks to have them as servants. They use their reprieve to make the earliest possible attempt to escape with the child, vanishing into the jungle, beyond which they think is a city. Instead they find open water and are almost instantly recaptured. In revenge for this attempted escape, Beal orders his giant strongman Mali to kill the pair. Karate helps them to stave off his attack, and the three men fight to a draw. Before Beal can decide what to do next, one of his ships comes to the island to report that three American naval vessels are headed this way. Tony and Doug, aware by now that the period is 1805, figure out that this may be Stephen Decatur, who at this time in history cleaned out the pirates of the Barbary Coast. This they decide, is probably one of the pirates' supply islands. At the Time Tunnel complex, Swain knows exactly where the pair is, and, realising that the island is due to be heavily bombarded, works frantically to oust the men. Meanwhile, Tony and Doug, in another attempt to escape with Armando, are caught, this time being staked out on the shore, so that the rising tide will drown them. Armando finally escapes and cuts them free, but before long Beal captures Armando and Doug, leaving Tony, who is injured, for dead. Recovering, Tony realises that the others are on the pirate vessel soon to be destroyed by Decatur, so he swims out to an American ship to warn the Captain. Decatur though, is committed to battle and can do nothing about it. The scientists at Project: Tic Toc have to risk moving Doug and Armando from the heavily bombarded pirate ship even though Tony is not with them. In the meantime, Tony is frantic as he sees the pirate ship go down, but as he helps care for the injured, he encounters Doug and the boy in the ship's hospital. Doug and Tony fade back into the mists of time.

When a technician-turned-spy plants a bomb in the Time Tunnel complex, then escapes through the Tunnel into time, Doug and Tony's job is to find him.
The time travellers, Doug and Tony, have just arrived in the Grand Canyon in 1547 when something goes wrong at the Time Tunnel Complex. A technician, Nimon, kills the scientist at the controls, who falls across the console so that conflicting signals nearly tear the travellers apart. Nimon then replaces a bus-bar in the Phase Synchroniser with one he has with him. Alarms go off, and a chase is quickly organised as Nimon flees through the complex while Ann and Swain work feverishly at the console to help the writhing Doug and Tony. Nimon dashes to the Tunnel, cuts off the picture of Doug and Tony, and himself vanishes into time. As Nimon's belongings are searched and evidence is found that he is a spy, a much worse problem comes up. Coded instructions say that he is to plant a nuclear device in the complex before going off the job at midnight. It is of utmost importance for Doug and Tony to locate Nimon, who has been transferred to their present time, and learn from him the location of the bomb. In the Grand Canyon, Doug and Tony draw Nimon to them by making a fire, then they trap him. The Tunnel meanwhile has been reset, and Nimon is transferred first and the time travellers a moment later. The two find themselves in a beehive-like structure and are instantly taken charge of by an armed man, Vokar. It is, in fact, a million years into the future, and the time travellers are prisoners of a society as rigidly structured as that of bees. Nimon is there too, but he has gone through a time warp and has been with Vokar's people for ten years, working on a Time Tunnel! He tells Doug and Tony that his Tunnel is their only hope of getting back, for the US Tunnel was destroyed a million years ago. But they feel that his bomb may not have gone off and there may still be time to save the Tunnel. All they learn is the time, 3 a.m., when the bomb is to go off, and they communicate this to the Tunnel, where it is already after 12. Ordered to assist Nimon in his project, Doug and Tony resist and are punished. But they get into worse trouble when a pretty worker, Zee, is sentenced to death for helping them and they try to save her. Before they can be killed, the Tunnel scientists work to move them. But Doug and Tony, by now, have trapped Nimon, and try to make him talk. In the extremity of the effort to move them, the Tunnel overshoots, and the men, with Zee, are transferred to 1,000,000 B.C. There, in dodging a prehistoric monster, Nimon falls into quicksand and will not reveal anything until rescued. They all but lose their lives saving him, only to then be menaced by Vokar, who is armed. But he learns human feelings, and when the five of them fall into a hive of giant bees, Vokar orders Nimon to tell Tony and Doug what they want to know. At the Tunnel complex, only Kirk, Ann and Swain remain to hear Nimon say that his bomb is to be activated by the bus-bar in the Phase-Synchroniser. It is found and removed, and Ann then moves Vokar and Zee to their own time. Then, as giant bees buzz near, the Tunnel picks up Doug and Tony but there is not enough power to save Nimon.

Tony and Doug land at Gettysburg and find themselves for a time on opposite sides in the conflict.
Tumbling out of the vortex onto a battlefield, Tony and Doug stumble over the body of a Union soldier. They sees Michaels, a strange-looking dark man with a giant mastiff pass by, and then, nearly caught in a skirmish between Union and Confederate soldiers, they try to outrun a burst of shellfire, but Tony is hit. A Union Major tells Doug that his friend is dead. When he finds that Doug has seen the man with the dog, he orders him to come with him. The Major finds a uniform for Doug and informs him that the man, Michaels, is planning to sell gunpowder to the Rebs and must be stopped or more lives will be lost at Gettysburg. Ann, Kirk and Swain, reading their instruments in the Tunnel complex, realise that Tony must be dead, but Ann gets permission to try a power surge which might shock him back to life. The experiment is successful. When Tony comes to, a confederate Sergeant mistakes him for their courier who was bringing money for Michaels. The Sergeant, realising that Tony has lost his memory and can't help them, takes him along as he sets out to follow the Union Major who he is certain is on Michaels' trail. The Major and Doug finally locate Michaels in a cabin. Refusing to surrender, he cuts down the Major with a rapier and disarms Doug. Tending to the dying Major's wounds, Doug finds a rapier and engages Michaels again but again he is disarmed. Noticing the manuscript that Michaels has been working on, Doug realises that Michaels is actually Machiavelli, somehow caught in the vortex of time and moved to America during the Civil War. Michaels is not bothered by what has happened to him and is enjoying the slaughter of war. The scientists at Project: Tic Toc, learning that Machiavelli's signal is identical to Doug's, search feverishly for a way to separate them. Meanwhile Tony and the Confederate Sergeant arrive at the cabin, and Tony, not recognising Doug, nearly kills him. Getting the gunpowder is more important, however, and Michaels agrees to lead them to it. Doug makes a dash for freedom, and Michaels sends the mastiff after him. Watching from the Tunnel complex, Kirk orders a reversal in time for the mastiff, and the animal disappears. Then Doug, expecting Tony, hides behind a tree until he appears. The two fight but Tony gets the upper hand. Michaels then leads Tony, Doug and the Sergeant through the brush towards a cave, where the gunpowder is hidden. Dodging shells, Tony tries to get a wagon to move the powder, and Doug follows. Puzzled when Doug saves his life, Tony returns and finds that the Sergeant has been shot by Michaels. Arriving at the cave, Tony rushes in to load the powder into the wagon, but Doug attempts to destroy the powder and the two fight. Suddenly Tony regains his memory, but Michaels lights the powder just before the scientists in the Tunnel complex can pluck him off the battlefield. As the fire reaches the powder, Tony and Doug disappear, and the cave is enveloped in a giant explosion.

Tony and Doug are caught between the forces of Kublai Khan under Marco Polo and the Mongol hordes.
Tony and Doug tumble into alien territory in time to see dozens of horsemen plunge off a cliff. They find a shield identifying the warriors as Mongols, the men of Genghis Khan. Captured by them , they are taken to the tent of Batu, their leader, where Doug is rendered unconscious, while Tony is questioned by Batu, who is the grandson of Genghis Khan. Mistaking Tony for one of Marco Polo's men, Batu demands to know the weaknesses of the fort where Marco Polo and his men are holding out. Tony is unable to give him any information and Batu has him put on the rack. Receiving word then of a victory over Marco Polo, he leaves to hunt Marco Polo down. Doug regains consciousness, and manages to free Tony and drag him to safety. While Ann, Kirk and Swain are trying to get an exact fix on Doug and Tony, Marco Polo finds them. Doug convinces him that he and Tony are his friends, and they are taken to the fort. There Tony is cared for by Sarit, a beautiful Eurasian girl. Meanwhile, Batu orders his Captain to enter the fort and steal Sarit, who is the daughter of Kublai Khan. Marriage with her would give him command over all the Mongol tribes and the empire of Genghis Khan could be his. Tony, who has fallen for Sarit, takes a moonlight walk with her despite Doug's warning. Batu's men slip over the wall, find them and forcefully abduct Sarit. Tony returns to report the kidnapping. Determined to rescue her, Tony and Doug, in Mongol dress, borrow some of Marco Polo's explosives, and return to Batu's camp. Tony confesses that he has been thinking of spending the rest of his life here with Sarit. At the Tunnel complex, Ann is trying to hold the fix on the men and is deeply impressed by Tony's declaration of love. Meanwhile Tony and Doug succeed in rescuing Sarit, while Batu, determined to take the fort, is gathering thousands of tribesmen for an assault. Under a flag of truce, Batu offers to exchange the lives of Marco Polo's men for Sarit, but Marco Polo refuses, vowing to fight to the end. There is doubt whether he can hold out for long. Tony realises that he can be taken from Sarit at any time and goes to say goodbye. The farewell is brief. Doug, recognising their desperate situation, borrows some of Marco Polo's black powder, and fashions some home-made bombs. Kirk, watching the Image Area, realises that they need fuses for their home-made artillery and is successful in making a transfer through the Tunnel. Tony and Doug attach the fuses and launch the explosives from catapults on the parapets as the Mongols attack again. Batu is killed, and the Mongols are turned back as Doug and Tony disappear into the vortex of time.

There is a blinding flash of light in the Time Tunnel complex, and OTT, an aluminium coloured figure, appears. He announces that he is taking Ann with him, and with a flash of light, he and Ann disappear. Picking up a metallic data card dropped by OTT, Swain converts it into co-ordinates, and to keep in touch with Ann, Kirk orders the transfer of Doug and Tony to the same co-ordinates. They land in a strange formless place where they follow a beam of light leading to a door which opens for them. Inside they find the Curator at a huge desk with rows of blinking lights. He informs them that the year is 8433 A.D. They are in the planetary system of the star Canopus. The Curator is distracted and Tony and Doug escape into the corridor but are forced to surrender when Ann. under guard, appears, and the Curator warns them she'll be killed. At Project: Tic Toc, OTT reappears and steals the time-space converter, leaving the scientists to work desperately to replace the part. Meanwhile the time travellers are left in a small cubicle where their dinner, in the form of small cubes, is served. The voice of the Curator orders them to eat, but they only pretend to do so. They are then brought before the Curator, who shows them a sheet-covered figure, and explains his project for recalling subjects from the past and extracting all information from them. As the sheet is pulled aside, the time travellers are shocked to see Adolf Hitler in a zombie-like state. He will live, in a vegetative state, forever, and that will also be their fate. The aliens are dormant during darkness, but the time travellers too will be dormant in a drugged sleep caused by the cubes they have eaten for dinner. Doug triumphantly shows the Curator the uneaten cubes, and he sounds the alarm, but it is too late, it is dark, and all the aliens become dormant. While Tony and Doug search for the stolen converter, Ann examines the workings of the time machine. She learns that only one person at a time can be use it. Suddenly they hear OTT, functioning with a special light source. Tony grabs the Curator's medallion weapon as OTT reappears, and, sliding a panel open, shows them the converter. Tony kills him with a blast and hands Ann the converter. She activates the time machine and returns to the Tunnel Complex where the converter is replaced. Meanwhile the Curator has woken, and as the guards move in on Doug and Tony, The Time Tunnel transports them to the safety of the time vortex.

At Khartoum during the historic battle, Doug and Tony encounter an alien who wants to destroy the world
Doug and Tony materialise in the desert within earshot of the 1883 battle of Khartoum, and are attacked by a pair of Arabs, but soon dispose of them. Then two androids in metallic space suits and carrying blasters appear from the nearby rocks. At the Tunnel Complex, Ann, Swain and Kirk hurriedly set dials to make a transfer. But on the screen they see a new figure, The Planet Leader, with a huge, bulbous head and a voice like ringing steel, who warns them not to try a pick-up again or he will destroy the Tunnel. Doug and Tony, meanwhile, are taken by the androids to a cave where the Planet Leader is presiding over a plan to destroy the Earth. To this end he has a row of missiles, set up and aimed, ready to fire on the world's major cities. The purpose of this is that as a prince of the planet Aristos, he must prove his worthiness to rule his home world by conquering ours. First he wants to learn all about the Time Tunnel. Ordering Tony taken out and killed, he has his slaves drag Doug to a mind reading device. He will soon know, he boasts, everything in Doug's head. Outside, Tony manages to escape the android, only to fall into the hands of a pair of beleaguered British soldiers. Captain Henderson and his sergeant believe Tony to be a spy working for the Arabs but the time traveller manages to persuade them to come back to the cave with him. Meanwhile, the Time Tunnel removes Doug from the torturing mind reading machine, and he materialises before Tony and the soldiers. The sergeant sees an android and opens fire on it but is killed. The Planet Leader sends a bomb through time to Project: Tic Toc as a punishment for their interference. With little time before the device explodes, the scientists struggle to disarm it. Henderson urges Doug and Tony to return with him to Khartoum in order to get help to fight the aliens. Unfortunately, the battle between the Arabs and the Sudanese under British command, impedes their progress. They can only gather up some ammunition and try themselves to stop the Planet Leader. As the bomb at Project: Tic Toc is about to go off, the scientists send it back through time to the cave. Doug, Tony and Henderson manage to destroy the missiles and escape from the cave just as the bomb arrives and explodes, destroying the aliens. Doug and Tony vanish into the time vortex.

The time travellers land in a New England town that has been taken over by androids who want to drain Earth's atmosphere of oxygen.
The time travellers materialise in a cellar filled with scientific equipment. A workman steals up behind them and attacks them with a wrench. Doug and Tony manage to fend him off, but are horrified to discover that a very slight blow has apparently killed him. Seeking a way out, the time travellers ascend the stairs and find themselves in a well equipt laboratory. Opening a door Doug and Tony are suprised to find themselves in the lobby of a typical New England hotel in September, 1978. They are met by the proprietor, Sarah Pettinghill who immobilises Doug and Tony with a touch. The old lady then transforms into Andro One, a hideous alien creature. Andro One is in charge of a scheme to steal all of Earth's oxygen and take it to another planet. To this end, it has immobilised everyone in the town and set up base in the cellar. The Time Tunnel is able to transport Doug and Tony a short distance, which is enough to release them from their spell. They appear back in the alien laboratory which sets off an alarm. Andro One seals them in and begins removing the air from the room. Doug and Tony use a work bench as a batterring ram and break out through a window. Unknown to the time travellers they are being watched by a young couple, Joan and Pete, who have also managed to avoid being frozen by the aliens. Doug and Tony are pursued by a pair of androids disguised as villagers. The time travellers are stopped by a forcefield set up around the town and are attacked by the androids. The alien creatures vanish when they are disarmed and beaten by Doug and Tony. Trapped by the forcefield, the time travellers are forced to return to the town where they encounter Pete and Joan. Joining forces, the foursome plan to destroy the alien base as their only hope of averting disaster for the entire world. Meanwhile, Andro One has traced Doug and Tony's point of origin to Project: Tic Toc. An android is despatched through time to Tunnel Control. Taking the place of a technician, the creature seals the complex and starts syphoning out the oxygen. Soon the Tunnel staff are beginning to collapse and the situation becomes desperate. Doug and Tony obtain some explosives and hurry them to the control centre through a violent storm caused by the oxygen drain. Joan is in hiding after an encounter with the aliens. When an android appears disguised as Pete, she tells it of Doug and Tony's plan. After freezing Joan, the android Pete rushes to stop the time travellers, but they are successful in fighting him off. The alien base is destroyed and the oxygen drain stopped. As the townspeople come back to life, Doug and Tony vanish back into the time vortex.

Following its initial network run, The Time Tunnel was placed into syndication but met with only limited success. Although ratings were generally high for these re-runs, there were only 30 episodes filmed, a number generally considered below the minimum required for a profitable syndication. Twentieth Century Fox had a similar situation with their T.V. version of Planet of the Apes, and had successfully sold five television movies edited from that series. In 1982 the same approach was used for The Time Tunnel. Each of The Time Tunnel movies is comprised of introductory footage from Rendezvous With Yesterday, and material from two additional episodes. All five of the films are available in both 90 minute and two hour versions. The movie titles, and the episodes used are as follows:
1. OLD LEGENDS NEVER DIE: Merlin The Magician & The Revenge of Robin Hood
2. KILL OR BE KILLED: The Day The Sky Fell In & Kill Two By Two
3. ALIENS FROM ANOTHER PLANET: Chase Through Time & Visitors From Beyond The Stars
4.REVENGE OF THE GODS: Revenge of the Gods & The Walls of Jericho
5. RAIDERS FROM OUTER SPACE: The Kidnappers & One Way To The Moon
