Saddle mold

Creating a "Saddle Mold"  provides a firmer mold when a flexible molding material has been used such as latex or in some cases flex wax. While a saddle mold was not necessary as long as the flex wax mold is thick enough I wanted to try a new light weight way of reinforcing a mold.

Placing the flex wax mold inside a cardboard box lined with a plastic grocery bag. The FW mold can be held off the bottom  by setting it on a bottle cap. It is good idea to have one side held in place by duct tape.

Mist the inside of the lined box & the outside of the FW mold with water this will speed up the curing process.

As you can see as the foam expands the side held with duct tape can pop open preventing any damage to the FW mold.
When the foam has fully cured the excess can be trimmed off with the electric knife

Note: The idea of using this method was to provide a light
weight mold w/reinforcement (as opposed to plaster) & have
the added benefit of being able to store the resulting mold in
the box for protection and convenience.
