Xanth Stolen!?

Recently I found this book in the local library. It is an oversized book filled with artwork with text reviewing authors and their Science Fiction books.

One of the pieces of art is the exact cover art for Piers Anthony's A Spell for Chameleon, but the caption describes something totally alien to what we know of the picture. The text itself makes no reference to Piers Anthony or to A Spell for Chameleon.

Caption

Chameleon: One of the results of illegal tampering with genetics and the crossbreading of species was the production of a population of bizarre creatures known variously as Chameleons. Leos and Scorps. Their function was to have been to guard estates and plantations on the fertile worlds in the Crowley System of 27 Earth-type (-17 to +48 on the Croot Comparison Scale) worlds, but their intelligence and compassion led to them being seeded on a world of their own, Lioness, orbiting the yellow sun Panox B.
