The May 30, 1867 union of Princess Maria del Pozzo della Cisterna and Amadeo, Duke D'Aosta, son of the King of Italy was less than a Fairy tale. The following events may add u to this being the worst wedding day in history:
The Princess' wardrobe mistress hung herself to death.
The palace gate keeper cut his own throat.
The best man shot himself.
The king's aid was killed when he fell off of his horse.
The colonel in charge of leading the wedding procession collapsed from sunstroke.
The stationmaster was crushed under the honeymoon train.
The Princess and the Duke obviously understood the omens and did not live happily ever after. Maybe a rainy wedding day isn't so bad after all?
