Fatal Fiction II
By: Heather N Gibson
Many agree the tragedy of the Titanic was indeed foretold in a fictional book called The Wreck of the Titan. However, this is not the only instance of storytellers predicting the future. In 1838 Edgar Allan Poe published The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket. Four survivors of the shipwrecked Pym drift in a lifeboat for days. Dying of thirst and starvation three of the crew kill and eat Richard Parker, who lost after drawing lots. In 1884 three shipwreck survivors were tried for murder after killing and eating cabin boy Richard Parker. |
