One hot summer morning in August 1971 in the quiet little village of Belmez, Spain a grandmother encountered her greatest fear. The elderly woman and her infant grandchild were sitting in their kitchen suddenly the child became very excited and cried out with delight. The child was playing peek-a-boo but not with his grandmother. A ghostly image appeared on one of the pink kitchen tiles in the floor. The face had troubled features and was incredibly sad. It terrified the grandmother! The family could find no explanation for the imprint. When they tried to rub it out the features only became more horrid and sad.
Frightened the owner of the house tore up the floor and replaced the tiles with concrete. Three weeks later a second face appeared, this time with more clearly defined features. The villagers became paranoid and the local authorities had to investigate. The authorities had the section of the floor were the faces had appeared cut away. Workmen dug up the floor and uncovered a medieval cemetery. During this investigation a third apparition appeared, then fourth and then a series of faces all together. The kitchen was locked and sealed. Faces began to appear in other parts of the house. One face pictured was clearly that of a woman. Then all at once the faces stopped appearing. Experts poured in from everywhere. Even the most skeptical had no explanation. The mystery was heightened when ultra sensitive. microphones were placed through the house. The microphones recorded voices speaking strange languages. There were recordings of agonizing moans matching the tormented expressions of each face. Was this an attempt to communicate with the living. If so, their message and appearance remains a Fascinating Mystery. |
