Rock of Ages
One of the best known hymns of all time, Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me, was composed on a playing card. The reverend Augustus Montague Toplady was taking a walk in Somerset, England when a violent storm came up. The Reverent took shelter in the cleft of a large rock.
The words suddenly came to him and he was so anxious to get them down he used the only piece of paper he had , a playing card.
