In at least the comics, Mirage was armed with an armor-piercing hunting rifle. He also had the ability to refract/reflect light off himself in such a way that he appeared to be where he wasn't.
In the cartoon, hand-to-hand combat appeared to be his strongpoint. He could hold his own with most Decepticons except for the higher command of the enemy ranks. (Example: Sherman Dam, 1984...Mirage neutralized Decepticons Thundercracker and Skywarp hand-to-hand, rescuing Autobot Cliffjumper in the process.) Most interestingly, he was equipped with a phased cloaking device. He could render himself invisble for at least 15 minutes at a time. Such power allowed him to get aboard the Decepticon starship before launch and destroy it during initial phase.
During the initial battle with the Decepticons on Earth in 1984, Miarge stopped a Decepticon escape of the planet. The Decepticons were attempting to escape back to Cybertron with a ship loaded with energon and a full complement of troops, when Mirage sneaked aboard the ship and destroyed its main guidance computer during flight before parachuting off the ship. The Decepticon starcruiser crash landed into the Pacific. Many Autobots thought Mirage was looking to steal a ride back to Cybertron on the Decepticon ship, and were surprised at his return. Upon landing, Mirage explained, "I wanted to go back, but the ship was full."
There has been no information on the whereabouts of Mirage since the 1980's.
