Jean Grey - Phoenix 3

Name: Jean Grey-Summers

Alias: Phoenix 3 (former) Marvel Girl.

Powers: Telepathy and telekinesis. One of the most powerful mutants on Earth.

Created by: Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.

First appearance: X-Men #1 (vol.1)

Friends: Storm, Wolverine, Cyclops, Prof.X.

Enemies: Apocalypse, Mr.Sinister, Onslaught, Magneto.

Favorite quote: It's a tie between:

"Jubilee, we come into this world alone...and we leave the same way. The time we spend inbetween...loving, living, learning...together....is all that makes life worth living." -- to Jubilee after Illyana's death, Uncanny X-Men #303.

And:

"You're a FIRECRACKER, Creed -- but I'm an ATOM BOMB!" -- Jean to Sabretooth, X-Men #28.

How many kids does she have?: Genetically, Cable, Phoenix 2, Stryfe, X-Man, and Mutant X Scotty. And not a single one of them came through her body first.

For that matter, how many times has she died?: Jean has died and come back (or never died at all depending on your viewpoint) five times. Once in the shuttle, once on the Moon, once in AoA, again in a raid on the Hellfire Club, and one last time 2000 years in the future, in a borrowed body.

Best battle: Versus Sabretooth in X-Men #28. She completely trashes him :) I also enjoyed AoA Jean's battle with the Brain Trust, a group of  extremely powerful telepaths bred without bodies.

Is it true that Prof.X had a 'thing' for her?: Yes indeed. This goes all the way back to the early days of the X-Men, when everyone and their brother had the hots for Jeannie, even Charles Xavier, the dirty old man. I've heard Stan Lee intended this as a joke. When the Prof. necame Onslaught, his secret passion was revelaed to her, and their relationship has been strained somewhat since then. Considering she was about 9 or so when they first met, his secret desire for her is rather sick, if you ask me.

Best storyline: The Phoenix and Dark Phoenix sagas. Modern day classics, even if her involvement was later retconned.

Worst storyline: Not really a storyline, but Jean has been portrayed in the nineties as being a 'mutant-den mother'; which she most certainly is not!

Where can she be seen?: The two main X-Men titles, and X-Men: The Hidden Years.

Jean Grey Links: Jean Grey, the First X-Woman. A very well done and imformative site.
