Dream

Lying in bed my eyes began to drift towards closing. The lids had barely come together when a sudden shout flung them apart. Blinking rapidly in the growing light, I could barely see anything except for shapes that flew past at astounding speeds. I wondered what could possibly happen that could cause such an uproar in the camp cabin, Northstar, but apparently something had happened.
The light was growing ever brighter as I tried to form coherent thoughts in my tired brain. I began to notice, with alarm, that this light was not the white-yellow of flashlights, or the lightbulb that hung overhead. It was a murky red, the color of blood, and it seemed to be giving off heat. I noticed that my breath was being stifled, and a strange smell was catching in my throat and causing me to cough.
My vision was still strangely blurry, but it had cleared up enough for me to see that my cabin mates were the forms that were flying around the room. I saw that the light was coming in from the window and through the walls. This thought frightened me to full alertness. I saw with keen vision that the walls were burning slowly, like dying embers. I noticed that the little bits of light flared every once in a while, and I soon felt the breathe of wind that was causing the flaring.
I saw one of my cabin mates, Alexa, running and jumping from the top of one bunk bed to the top of another. Her hair was trailing behind her, wisps of smoke rising every few moments. A pair of great antlers rose from her brow and scraped along the ceiling with every leap that she made. The scraping noise not only caused intense shivers down my spine, but also made bits of smoldering wood fall down onto the bunk beds. I saw a tiny bit of it float down and land on my arm.
I stared fascinated at the bit of ember that was ever so slowly burning a hole into my skin. I seemed to feel pain, but I focussed more on the sight of the ember and my physical reactions to it. My heart started to pound a bit faster; my skin was sweating ever so slightly; I could feel the blood cells gathering around the ember, feeding off of its heat. The entire experience was somewhat nauseating to me, but I was intrigued all the same.
A crash sounded behind me, and I turned to find that the wall next to my bunk bed was missing. I had been so interested in my arm, that I failed to notice that the cabin was falling down around me. I looked up and saw the ceiling coming down on top of me. It came down so slowly, that I thought that it would never hit me. The ceiling began to whoosh in on me. The noise of it falling echoed. I opened my eyes with the crash still resounding in my head.
